Nice work on the Ork skin, Ifalna, but wtf is up with the pose of that gun arm?

He is deffo coming along I cant think of any Ork/Orc I would like to meet in a dark alley though.. except maybe.. Thrall?

I did indeed! Great job on the green shade fades, thats bloody hard to pull off without an airbrush.

Hohoho. The others are progressing in one big group. Things are getting so interesting now.

monkeytroll wrote:Lovely skin on that bandito-boss, I must try some like that with my guys sometime. Niddies look cool, but I was hoping for something a bit more golden, you know
Hmm, you might be on to something with the steeds though. Whose up for sculpting a gak-load of feathers?

I am afraid I developed a horrific allergy to painting feathers after Wurrzag, I break out in a terrible case of Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo,

Ramos Asura wrote:I still love how you paint ork skin. You get the texture so vivid! Something I gotta figure out how to do better!

Incorporate scorpion green as a highlight. It can take a few layers to build up to it properly, but it really adds brightness, near neon to be honest. I love the stuff.

monkeytroll wrote:Dammit.

Barrett from an ork.
Cid from a delaque? Or maybe one of the PP warcasters oe engineers. In fact I think I have one that fits the bill.
Vincent from an elf? I'm mainly thinking of the cloak and headband there, so a bit iffy.
Red from any of several cat minis/toys.
Yuffie from an escher juve/mordheim brat.
Sephiroth from Fabius Bile?
Tifa from an escher? Maybe a juve.
Cloud from a variety of sources, same for Aeris.

Cait???

OK, I've written it down, maybe the idea will leave me alone now....

Oh. Oh wow. Yes. This must be done. Cait would have to just be greenstuff I think, unless you had him as Reeve instead?

Dysartes, this is just a very special Ork, ya know? He has his own incredibly unique way of holding a gun, and who am I to question that. Someone who doesn't want to be beaten to death by an Ork, thats who. Yep.

Here he is now -

Mouth, metals and bone now done, clothing starts tomorrow! He's really coming along now. I went with a really simple but very neat metal finish I've never tried before, and I think it turned out nice. Just needs some contrasting around it to make it pop.

I've also reached the painting stage with this guy -

All drilled out and assembled with greenstuff, all small skulls pinned and ready to be added tomorrow, rider cleaned and all mold lines I found tidied up ( will likely spot more once he is primed, ofc) Also did a lot of score lines and nicks in the armor using a scalpel, but won't be that visable till he is painted.

Priming begins tomorrow, exciting.. seriously. So many ideas already.

It is indeed, required between 5 and 13 thin layers (depending on the length of the fade) from yellow to dark green. It took a long time and quite a bit of patience to do.
That's what I like about your painting, you're so patient to build up the colours, one thin layer at a time. I'm usually not happy if I can't get the right colour with 1 or 2 coats. I probably wouldn't have done that fade so gradually if I wasn't trying to get close to your's.
And I don't have 3 settings on my painting, only one, and that's as good as I get.
Keep it up.

Very very nice work, ive spent the last few days (been kinda slow at work) looking though this entire thread and i am super impressed by your work, you have a new fan.

I would totally get you to paint my Space Wolves if you lived anywhere near me, sadly however, you dont :(. hmm maybe i could get you to do my characters at least, how would you go at matching a character (colour wise anyway) to my already painted Space Wolves so they would fit in?

Well the patience really showed because he looks great Fading in layers is tedious but can give such lovely results, airbrushing is just kinda a giant cheat button for fading, which is why I love it I only had one setting for a loooooong time too, I'm glad I pushed myself further though. When you eventually find yourself bored with how you are painting ( and you will) challenge yourself to paint a model to the best you possibly can after reading tutorials and guides. Thats what I started doing and it was a really great excercise. I was super proud of the work I was doing too, even if it is a bit embarrassing now D:

Haha welcome aboard! Being in Ireland is a bit of a pain in the bum for international work alright, but at least we have a very cheap postal service here. I'm not taking on commissions right now but if it is for a couple of months down the line, PM me the details and we can have a chat

Gits Nids will be all finished up tomorrow, and this big guy now just needs his blacks and pole finished off.

There are some problems with the gun hand, but hopefully they will be lost in the overall final look. Can't wait to base him, will make a really big difference I think.

Thanks. Yeah, I had a working airbrush for a while but a connection broke so a new propellent solution is required once I have money to spend on one, I don't think blowing down the tube would cut it . Although I only used it for undercoats on model aircraft. Airbrushes still require skill to do more than cover a large area though.
It takes a long time for me to get bored and I do try to do each and every model I do to the best of my ability as I'm only doing them for the fun of painting and modelling. Sometimes I just hit an entire model just right and it looks good, but I don't stop until I'm at least happy with it.
That's what is good about these sort of models as opposed to "real life" models, you have things like DakkaDakka where you can see what other people have done AND how they do it, so everyone can raise their game.

Ork looks good. Skin tones are good and the metal looks... like metal really (as good as it gets). well done.

Oh god what have you all started this time!

I... must admit a clobberang does sound pretty amazing. I'm sure one will pop up soon knowing you lot.

I've been super busy today, firstly I got him finished -

Lots of fun, kept him cartoony as it helped hide some of the conversion issues, and tied him with his unit by giving him a super colourful pole to match their ponchos I’m very happy with his metals. The base really finished him off I think.

I've also been working away on what will be a showpiece standard display Juggy, he started like this -

Which as I explained on FB -
"This is the lightest he will ever be. With the airbrushed areas down, I will now start shading him and blocking in the other areas. Lots of places that have red at the moment will actually be metal or bl
ack, and all the reds will be toned down and shaded a LOT, as Mitchell has some awesome ideas for dark shades and power line effects. He will be brutal. Well, visually brutal. He is already physically brutal. Spiky git."

He now looks like this -

After a lot of careful shading down and blacklining. I will be starting on his highlights while continuing to shade him down and get him as dark as possible, which the owner wants. Going to have some really nice metals too, I am seriously thinking of ye old Mithril silver layers over and over with sepia and black wash like on my old Khorne nights, it can look gorgeous.

How exactly did you do the metals on the nob? They look perfect. I'm guessing its black and brown washes over a base of chainmail or similar, highlighted with mithril silver?
Anyway, can't wait to see how the juggernaut turns out!

The metals were a base of boltgun given a couple of washes of thick black and mud with sepia in certain areas like joints, then I very carefully edge highlighted with chainmail and mithril.

I will deffo do it again, but would push to add some rusting in there too

The best part about that picture is you can make out my incredibly arty dot on the wall in the background. Thats how you know I am artistic, I have a single dot on a piece of canvas on a wall.
