Looks like I'm just being lazy. Sometimes I get lucky and the teeth look fine and sometimes it looks like I just slapped on some white, which is funny coz that's pretty much what I do.
Shall have to revisit some of mine in the future.

Look forward to the chameleon themed Lictor.

I think it's always worth spending the bit of extra time on teeth, as they tend to be a focal point for most minis that have them. Just try and keep each highlight layer smaller than the layer below so you get a nice transition

Gitsplitta wrote:Hive Guard. Don't leave the swarm without them.

Mmmmm, this shall be done then. Gorgeous models too.

Did a bit more work on the Nids bases today using rubbish I found outside. Shame static grass looks so awful up close haha, these now look really lovely together.

Who needs expensive basing kits eh? Bits of twig and bark for the win.

Still not busy enough for me though, want to get some little leaves or flowers on there too.

You're not planning on doing a big army of these bugs are you? There is no way I could survive putting that much detail on the little guys.
Hmm, maybe you are just some crazy technologically-advanced robot from the future, programmed to paint all the models to a mind-blowing standard. That is the only excuse I could find for your amazing skills.

I make the grass stand up the incredibly stupid way, once I stick it down I turn the mini upside down and blow very hard on the base so all the excess flies off and the stuck grass points in the direction I blew. This makes static grass fly everywhere but is an easy way to make it look a bit fluffier. You are meant to do it with a static net but I am a neanderthal and cannot into that kind of technology.

The really big fluffy bits are Army painter tufts, so that part was cheating.

I guess that disproves my theory

I do static grass the same way as you!

k, looking through, I see static grass, some grass tufts, but what are the green/yellow little moss looking pellets?

I had to up the brightness in the shots cause of how much shadow the gaunts were casting on the bases, so the red is a bti bleached alright, looks a little pinky!

The pebbly green stuff is the old rubber flock people used to use all the time on bases, GW seems to have stopped selling it though and replaced everything with static grass :( Shame, but you should still be able to get it in hobby stores.

It looks really nice with static grass as it looks a little like moss, but looks horrible on its own haha.

How long does it take you to bash out a singe gaunt when it has that level of detail?

Oh per Gaunt? Hmm.

Not including drying time I would say 10 mins for the airbrushing, 10 mins for the skin highlight, 10 mins for the carapace and 5 mins for the teeth and eye, they really are rather quick bar waiting for them to dry.

The base is the same, very fast to actually do but takes forever to dry between stages.

All included it took maybe 5 hours for the paintjobs on all 9 and maybe 2 hours for the bases, with a lot of drying time for the skin and carapace wash and waiting on the painted sand.

I, for one, would love that! I tried doing that with GIMP a while back and got myself into a terrible state, so some advice would be well received.
