I have got to askl. If Judge Cal is making an appearance, where does Judge Fish fit in? Perhaps he could be a psifocus for Judge Anderson: the Psi-Fish.

NO IDEA! To be honest, I'm not a massive Judge Dredd fan - I just thought the models would be pretty good for parts. I know who Anderson is, but no idea about Caligula and Fish....

Anyway, Caligula has been changed beyond all recognition into my fearsome Lead Chastener - complete with cloak as 'chastener's sash' and massive bionic arm. The plan is to use his as either Straken or a Lord Commissar with Plasma Pistol (or Plasma Pistol/Power Fist).

I've also made a bit more progress on the shields. Getting them to this stage took a couple of gos. 'Cutting down' the blobs of GS didn't work very well, so I tried again by rolling out strips, glueing in place, and then cutting while still soft. Next is to rivet the corner panels and then start on the electrics...

Lovely conversion of Cal. Absolutely jaw-droppingly well done.

Deputy Chief Judge Fish! That'd be awesome. It's from a story called 'The Day The Law Died', literally a goldfish.

Cal: "I have today passed a law to maintain public order! Deputy Chief Judge Fish will announce it!"
Fish: "Bloop!"
Cal: "You have heard the law. The penalty for disobedience is death!"

Judge Fish would make a great objective! 'we must save judge fish!'

Caligula is basically based on the mad roman emporah!

Ahaa. Maybe a Fish objective is the way forward, then. I have some lampposts all ready for 'perp' objectives. I might chain a fishbowl to one of them...

More progress on the shields. I've cut them down, and put GS rivets on the corners, and then started on the cabling. I've used leftover barbed wire sections, with the contacts made from GS. The ones trailing around the bottom will curl behind to a power pack on the back.

Anyone think the plated are too thick? I'm not sure if it's just that they're green, and once painted it will be fine, or that they're too thick...

They look thick, but how do they compare to the plates around the view slits?

The shields are looking pretty sweet there, the plating looks a tad thicker than the view slit, but I don't see that as an issue at all.

Someone just posted this image on the massive Necromunda terrain thread..

I had completely forgotten about this - such a good conversion. I've suddenly decided to go down this route with my Chimeras. However, I won't be using bits and parts - I've just ordered five of the Chapterhouse wheeled conversion kits. I'll raise the roof level with plasticard sections.

I'm currently looking for an Xmas mini-project over here - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/492743.page - Necrons are in the lead at the moment, with Arbites Chimeras pretty close behind. I've ordered the Chapterhouse kits on priority mail, and if they arrive in time, Arbites instantly win...

NOW, the important question. Part of the reason that McVey conversion looks great is the lack of turret, which means having something pintle mounted. What should I go with? A pintle mounted Multilaser would be way too big, but a pintle heavy bolter might work? A pintle heavy flamer would fit in with the Repressors, but isn't the best weapon to use. Multilasers are probably the most useful, but very little else in the army uses them...

On the other hand, I could order five of these from Ramshackle, and make small turrets more similar to the Repressors? Maybe build them into the hull? Or maybe that will ruin the look of the amazing conversion?

Thanks! You have to be careful with the Judge Dredd minis - they're more slender, but also much more variable in height. Some look fine next to GW models, but some are way too tall (maybe a head taller). Judge Caligula, unconverted, is half a head taller than a regular Arbite, which is part of the reason I did the head swap - by mounting the new head much lower and bulking out the body with GS, he'll just look 'big' rather than out of scale...

I think you could mount the turret like the repressors and still look pretty cool, offset on the front with the heavy bolter,, after all these aren't the usual patrol vehicles, these are meant to put down riots, and when does the imperium do anything without extreme prejudice? Then go ahead and pintle mount the multilaser, my suggestion would be use the IG heavy weapon team lascannons and replace the barrel with the multilaser. It may look a little big though, I've also seen a few guys use the lascannons from the sentinel kit when they do pintle mounts, apparently they're a little smaller.

Here is what I did for something similar.

I count the Stubber as a Heavy bolter. I know you want a multi laser but this might give you some ideas.

Suppression Shields ready!

I've finished the back cabling on the Suppression shields, and trimmed down the rims somewhat - the power pack on the back is from a boltgun handgrip. They're now ready for recasting...

I've also modified an Arbites arm so that I can have boltgunners holding their weapons alongside their shields. I've cast this with Insta-mold and will be making 10/12 boltgun and riot shield guys to differentiate Sisters from Guard.

PROGRESS!

The two characters are coming along. I got this far and then realised I have no painted bases ready, so I'm making the next batch now.

I've also been working on the bolter/shield guys - with my new moulded arm, the production line has started...

I recommend that you DON'T use the Ramshackle. The models are rough and don't look Imperial at all and the casts they sent me were horrible. The tanks I ordered are so bad I'm not sure if I can salvage them for my Orks. I won't order from them again.

The Tick: Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

Yeah, I've had quite a lot of stuff from Ramshackle before - the clue is definitely in the name! The models and casts are very rough and need a lot of work - though I've never had a BAD (misshapen/air bubbles) cast. I think you're right, though. For the pretty clean look of the army, a ramshackle torrent probably won't fit.

xcasex wrote:Woop, looking awesome with the OSL! any upcoming "further" plans on the modelling side?

Thanks! Next plans are for the big shield swap and a push on the guard Chimeras.

LeadLegion wrote:Looking great. You'd never know they were Judge Dredd miniatures.

Yeah, they need a little bit of work on scale, but they brush up pretty good after that. I'm quite surprised how much Anderson's giant puffy kneepads actually look ok!

-----

SO, my molding/casting ability has moved on from Insta-mold to real actual silicon moulds - with thanks to Panic for showing me how.

I set my two converted shields as well as two regular shields in clay and covered with silicon. The two regular ones will have their hand holds filled - giving me a ton of flat-backed ones that I can bluetack to current models when they need to be SoB. The cones are Talisman counters.

After waiting 8 hours, the mould was turned, the area covered with Vaseline, and then next part poured in.

The mould came out pretty well. I then started to cut more air channels and widen pour channels to get a good cast.

After a few test castings, and modifications to the air channels, it looks like it's starting to work. More photos to follow...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And this is how the casting came out - left to right are test casts as I added and modified air channels.

The end one is looking good - still the occasional air bubble, but nothing I can't fix with a bit of GS.

I'll start a production line tonight while I'm finishing off bases for the characters...
