Thanks shingouki

I've started painting him (or her!) now, he's a very faint bone colour and the camera is having issues picking up the colours very well. Main body colour and tail finished and skull base colour done.

I can never bring myself to go and as for offcuts in our local music shop. I can imagine the question "What do you want off cut bits of wire for?" "Well as you ask its for my little men"

Cheers eldartau this is my second one the first was done when I first got back into the hobby way back in this blog. I put them next to each other the other night and can see a vast improvement in my painting skills. Some of the minis I painted last year I could paint so much better now.

While we are on the painting front I might give you an update on the Necrodefiler this weekend if I have time. I'm taking Typhus out on Saturday and may have to work Sunday so we shall see.

GiraffeX- PM me your mailing address and I'll send you out a little care package w/ my old strings. I play guitar and I have a lot of them. I'll send you a few different gauges so you'll have options.

An update for you all today the second Necrodefiler is now finished. Well I say finished I still need to do a few touch ups as I'm not used to painting from a white undercoat so there are little gaps and bits that you would never notice if paint from black. He needs a base as well but I think he looks nice without one.

I also done a pic with him and his new friend which I painted about this time last year, I think my painting has come along way since then.

I never got round to posting my results from last weekend, you didnt miss out on much though.

I played three games 1st against Grey Knights and Guard which I lost but it was a close call down to one objective. Second against Grey Knights and Guard again which was I lost again due to one objective was very close and I won my third game against Guard, my Plague Marines went on a tank hunt and slowly worked their way across the board taking out everything in their way.

Very nice work... but almost too much plain white. I don't mean to be critical... it just looks "unfinished" because so much of the body and detail are white with only very subtle shading. The bone pieces and skin all look the same color, which makes it seem unfinished.

Beautiful job though Gir... really like it. Just wanted to give you my honest impression to give you something to consider.

Cheers Git's the feedback is appreciated, I've been painting him on his base which is currently black in front of a load of primed black minis so he really stands out. I'll paint his base up and see what he looks like then as it will give him a darker back drop which may help.

Mostly, on my phone.

Great base GiraffeX but could still maybe do with a bit more shading on the bone of the tail? The skin is beautiful, really lustrous.

Thanks Graven the tail is shaded more than in looks in those pics it seems to reflect the light a lot.

I took another pic of it this morning, which includes my rather messy pile of bits as well

Here's another pic of him on his base with an empty background.

In other news what was going to be my next project (Sisters of Battle) has fallen through. I was aiming to have 900 points painted for an event in November but with 6th edition and the impending Chaos codex plus quite a few releases for the Xbox due out I wont be able to afford to get the minis I'm missing.

Well what does that mean you may ask? Well it means I now have a huge open in my painting schedule for the rest of the year and a few months into next year. I've still got quite a few Sisters to paint up (about 30ish), they still will be the next army, it will just take a bit longer then planned.

So I decided over the next few months I'm going to try and up my painting skills to the next level in between painting Sisters. I've got quite a few spare minis floating round. So thought there's no better time like the present.

I want to try some NMM and lighting effects and shear cloth as well.

Also some TMM (True Metallic Metal) as well had a quick go tonight on a face as below its a bit of a small surface but I felt more comfortable trying it as it would be easy to fix.

edit: I've also got some MIG Absolute Chipping solution to try out on a Rhino as well.

Not much painting on the chaos front this weekend apart from a lone Plague Marine. I've mostly been painting Sisters just waiting for their pigments to dry.

I did some constructing though

I de-sprued an Aegis Defence Line for the Sisters and had a go at bashing together part of one for my World Eaters, its got a long way to go and most likely wont be touched for ages now until I pick up some more plasticard and other bits.

My test marines testing it out and its spot on for size compared to the imperial version.

Whats that dodgy Slaanesh marine doing in there!

Last but not least the first of the Dragon Warriors who will eventually be ally support for my Dark Wolves, they will count as Salamanders for gaming purposes.

That's all from me, over and out.

Been a while work is really getting in the way, taking away all my free time on the weekends at the moment. So nothing new on the painting front, haven't touched my brushes in ages

I did get the Chaos Space Marine army out to a tournament this weekend though. Did quite well for a change.

1500 points

1st game vs Orks - There were loads of them they must have outnumbered my army about 5 to one. I gave them a good fight and it came down to the Ork player taking out my last Plague Marine on one of my objectives with 10 Lootas to take the win.

2nd game vs - Necrons - I think the general way it went was crush kill stomp stomp as I worked my way through the Necron ranks, tabling him in the process.

3rd game vs Blood Angels - Full armoured army all in razorbacks with Predators and a vindicator, I couldn't close in quick enough to get my guys within melta range and my defilers were dropping like flies. I got tabled this game wasn't pretty.

4th game vs Marines - I think I managed to just pull this one off it was very close I managed to keep one member of each of my troops alive denying victory points. One Plague Marine took most of his entire army shooting at it and managed to walk away after two turns unscathed.

5th game vs Imperial Guard - He had loads of tanks but scatter lasers don't do much to my CSM. We had an objective each I had one on my flank with just one squad of Plague Marines defending it the entire game and sent the rest of my force after his. They survived until turn 5 and took so much fire it was amazing. When they were down to two members they were attacked by a unit of 10 Rough Riders I lost one guy and the remaining Plague Marine took out two Rough Riders and the unit ran and he ran them down

6th game vs Blood Angels (from game three) - By some miracle I was on the top table in the last round playing to win the tournament. I was up against the Blood Angel player again which wasn't a good sign. I let him go first but I learnt from mistake last time and placed all my units out out of his firing range including his movement allowance. It wasn't looking good the first few turns but the Plague Marines managed to get in close and personal this time and I keep casting Invisibility on one of my Defilers giving him a 2+ cover save. This was the best game of the weekend and it was so close turn five was the decider I had a tough choice to make. I two Plague Marines on my back objective being hassled by a Baal Predator and 3 marines contesting a central objective. I had a unit 3 Plague Marines between the marines and the pred, My choice was either shoot the marines and take the objective and if the game ended I would win or try and take out the last hit point on the pred which would save my two Plague Marines on the back objective letting me take the win in turn 6. I went for the second option and failed to kill the pred and the game ended with me loosing

As a bonus though I did walk away with best painted army, so all is good in my books

Next event for me is the end of October which the Dark Wolves will be going too, I need a few new bits for them (A lone Wolf and some objectives) but I'm still mainly concentrating on painting Sisters in my Imperium blog when I get any free time for November.

Well done GirafeX, sounds like a great tournament and it also sounds like you were very unlucky not to get a glancing hit on that Predator. Always nice to get the best painted prize too!

Many thanks everyone

eldartau which army did you take out for the weekend?

On a sad note just seen the price of the new FW HH book £70 I think they just out priced ranged most people with that, its just silly. Sadly it means theres no point in getting any rule specific minis that are linked to it, silly FW

I took my Grey Knights Oddly enough. My first game was against orks which I had almost tied. My second game was Dark Eldar and I just could not do enough damage to the right guns to make it worth while and my final game was against Draigo Wing. My 2 dreadknights killed 1300 points worth of Paladins. It was my favorite part of the day.

All that effort coming down to a single shot. Had one of those at a FLGS 'tourney' that was to introduce players to 6th Ed. If I had concentrated fire from 2 units on one Ork buggy I would have taken it out, securing a tie. I split my fire and went for both buggies instead, going for the win. Neither managed to take either buggy and I lost by 1 VP. Ugh.

Small update for the Chaos minions this weekend, an objective marker for Skyrar's Dark Wolves. Two more to go and a Relic.

I've mainly been painting Sisters which you can find here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/379187.page#4801219 they don't get much love in that thread so if you could show them some interest I'm sure they will be appreciate it!

I have ordered the new CSM codex though which is quite exciting although I dont like any of the new models that are in the same release they aren't what I call chaos. On the other hand the models that FW are bringing out soon for their Heresy books will make me broke forever! I don't think this thread will ever end
