Last night I managed to complete Radukar and his two zombie ogre bodyguards from Cursed City

The image has gone a bit grainy on his trousers, which is odd as they are nice and smooth... might be some artefacts from the phone's resizing software.

Still, this means I'm slowly progressing through the Cursed City box, and my undead backlog.

Slowly isn't the word I would use.
I have six of the heroes built and only one has paint on it.

You are certainly churning through them (in a good way).

Zenithal undercoats and contrast paint are my best friends these days
I think the only non contrast/washes I have on my painting table at the moment are a couple of light greys for the nmm metals, a white, a black and a basing mix I made. Makes for some quick painting. that may change when I need to do greens though as the green contrast does come out a bit grainy, even when mixed thoroughly.

Thanks! Everything is now undercoated from the Cursed City box... I just seem to be more inspired by the undead than the heroes; which is normally the other way around. Usually I want to paint the heroes, but can't be bothered about the hordes of villains... clearly I was meant to have an undead army! (especially as there is more variation than Guard!)

I think there's been more painting over the last couple of weeks than in months put together; at least since the blitz on the Tallarn last year

I did some 3d printing again last night and about all that didn't drop off were the 20 shields I was printing for some more of the last generation GW skeletons I managed to grab hold of earlier in the week. thankfully these were the bits that I really needed; the rest were mostly nice-to-haves. One wolf was missing a head; another dropped off completely and the witch was also stuck to the bottom of the tank; despite a thorough cleaning yesterday :(

Guess another cleaning is required...

Is it a heat problem perhaps? If my resin isn't at a good starting temp AND the whole print is done at a steady 20C+ fail rate is much higher.

I tend to do printing over night as it is right next to where I work during the day and can be heard clearly by everyone else I'm in conference calls with. The failures seem to be all in one part of the build plate so I need to have a close look at the FEP and make sure it isn't scratched/dinged up so that it doesn't release things properly.

How long has it been since you leveled the head? That’s usually when I find I’m having issues with my older printer.

Apparently you can buy rolls of fep for much cheaper through a hardware store than a printer manufacturer. I don’t have a printer, I just heard about it from a podcast.

Ah. Now I had a tiny, invisible hole on my fep once and that did happen. It's not difficult to replace the fep but it's extremely time consuming.

The last couple of days has mostly been tokens, rather than units. All of these have been fun to paint, especially the Gravetide oddly.

The gravetide has had loads of little cobblestone bits adding to it to make it fit more into the Cursed City theme that I'm adding to the undead bases

The next LoER challenge is called By The Book and is either something related to a book/story, or features a library or books of some kind.

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/799537.page#11166310

I've not yet worked out what to do for this. I may start doing some 3d-ish terrain tiles for dungeon crawlers and do a library of some sort. the question is to 3d print them, or XPS foam and start learning how to do it properly from the book I got from KS earlier in the year and not done anything with yet... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tabletopworkshop/tabletop-terrain-from-xps-foam-buildings

The gravetide is a neat idea, well executed and a nice paint scheme

I have a fun idea for By the Book....which I cannot do....since I don't think I have ever finished a project

Love all of it, but the gravetide especially.

the last two days has been a desk clearup and finishing some of the bits that have been kicking around for *aaaaaages*

First up is this beastie, known as Thing. I got him as a job lot of Flesh Eater Court, so it was a case of basing him and a few touchups on the paintwork as it was quite nicely done already and fits with the more recent vamp painting style

10 new pre-Cursed City skeletons

Some converted skeletons that I started just after myself and Arakasi went to a GW sculpting master class *years* ago. Given that this was a few years before he skipped the country that'll tell some of you how long ago that was!

and some old skeletons who needed rebasing to fit the newer stuff. These guys were all missing shields, so they now have those too

All these skeletons brings that up to a max size unit of 40 old style skeletons to go with the 10 Cursed City ones and the Underworlds warband... for someone that didn't want another army I seem to be doing quite well. The 30 zombies and 40 ghouls are staring at me from the ziplock bag on my desk laughing very very hard.

Lovely undead horde, very much enjoying those skellies,in tattered imperial uniform. It all looks very consistent, while keeping plenty of variety.

Wow - I didn't realise you did more converted skeletons. I still have my one from that class - in all its unpainted glory (and square base).

yeah, they were made and undercoated, but never actually painted. Wish I'd made more before selling the greatsword bits and pieces, but I'm nearly done with this style skeleton, only 6 more to finish today though as I ran out of shields and had to print some more

*If* more get added, it will be to bring the new style ones up from the 10 Cursed City ones to be a usable unit size of 30.

daaaaaaaaym. Just as I was getting ready to consolidate down to just fantasy, clearing out all 40k except Necromunda... they go and showcase plastic Krieg! Must. Stick. To. plan!

Anyhoo. the extra shields were added to the last couple of skeletons, bringing the total to 55 including the 10 from Cursed City. That should be more than enough for anyone!

I had to pop into town this morning for some new glasses, so I went into GW to see if I could snag one of those new free Stormcast to play with until Dominion turns up. I loved the conversion that is doing the rounds that just replaces the head with one of the Greatsword sallet heads, so a bit of time this afternoon and I now have a standard bearer. The proportions on these things is much much nicer than the old Stormcast models and a simple headswap just looks so much better! I'm going to have to 3d print new heads for everyone in the new box as I don't think I'm going to be able to find enough of these and the pile of spare Perry heads that I have kicking around are too small to be of use. the banner is from an old Empire kit, I think it was some of the old knights, but can't recall

The new Pile of Potential site is interesting and replaces some of the spreadsheets that I've got kicking around. If you want to nose around, I've started to fill in the undead that I've done this year, along with the bits I still have to paint and I'm quite impressed with this year's productivity! https://pileofpotential.com/Endtransmission

Props on all the Undead progress! And nice work recreating that Greatspear, super smart to put the printer to use on more helmets, I hear the market is already draining of the original bit

BUT also I'm posting to say thanks for that POP link! I do the same thing with google sheets for my army projects, nice to have a similar tracker in one shiny place

Yeah, I have various Google sheets for painting projects, so having something near like that is going to be useful when I can fill in some more of the backlog

It will certainly be useful for planning out future projects as there is the purchased checkbox. One of the next updates will apparently include overall collection metrics... Which I do *not* want to think about!

Thought I'd already commented on the awesomeness of that conversion, apparently not. Ahem. That conversion is awesome!

Joking aside, a bunch of Stormcast with those helms would look terriffic. I might have to try and track some down myself,if Dominion doesn't do a Cursed City and vanish leaving only insane ebay prices in its wake...

Thanks, though I can't take credit for the helmet idea! I'm trying to decide if I re-helmet the old stormcast that I have kicking around, or just sell them all and only go for new style. It's not like I play AoS anyway, it's more for collection purposes and may make for some fun conversions to make the characters I want for Warhammer Quest from the new figures... we shall see. Dominion will be vanishing soon, but there are the three new starter sets that look just as good, especially if you're after bodies rather than the characters

Good to know, wasn't after the box itself so much as being able to grab some of the new Stormcast minis for it cheaper second hand, so if there are other similar starters coming, hopefully the supply will stay around. My days of GW starter box splurges are behind me, but your Stormcast headswap is givng me some ideas for DnD stuff,
