ideally...and i tried this with one of 3, id rip the helmet off and have the kroot head showing...like maybe just the top so it looks like hes deep in the armor you know? but i just dont have the sculpting skills to clean that mess up. i agree with you....but blue will not fit here sadly. Lets just see what he looks with the squad. The white armor is a major tie in also dont forget. The blue is simply their skin. As far as their gear is concerned, this guy is exactly the same as the rest, even the orange trimmings...But im still open to suggestions. As i said, worse case scenario i just paint them all green camo and call em stealth suits

Well, they are stealth suits, so the pilot would be the same size as they are in the riptide.

I'm sure if he's running about with a squad of kroot, then he's not going to be confused with a stealth team member. Especially if your stealth team look drastically different from him as you intend (?).

Maybe, you could add representative/ceremonial kroot spines to the top of the suit. I'm sure they must be proud of their spines and would want to show off that they have them...

Well, heres the thing. I want to do ir all camo likee his helmet, so i kinds need to just repaint him. And if he is all camo like that, its not a good tie in for a squad leader...i dunno...im kinda in a funk...Not super inspired for some reason with this one...

EDIT: yes whale, this is your fault

Just wanted to say I'm loving this thread. Stumbled across it a few minutes ago and I've since gone through the whole lot, looking at all the pretty pictures. Love the Kroot look, but have to say the Catachan's are still my pick of the bunch.

@ Galorn, hey man, thanks. And im not sure im on a plane right now back to Brooklyn ll know tonight! Thanks again, in advance!

Hola gents and gentresses (?)...Heres a giant update of modelling by me. I spent the last days of my vacation building the final three models in my first kroot squad as oppossed to painting. As i said earlier, the stealthsuit awas just an illconcieved idea that i abandoned before i spent even more time on it. I rarely do that, but i know when to fold em. i was uninspired and i learned many years ago to STOP when you dont care. LOL

I actually am pretty darn pleased with these 3 guys. Ill introduce them one by one.

First up is the most adventurous build ive yet to tackle. Had this image in my mind and decided to just go for it. As much as i wanted to keep them totally evolved, i ouldnt ignore that delicious bit of feral fluff regarding their eating of their prey. This guy is as feral as it gets! He doesnt even have a gun! lol!!! Frankly though, this is due to the fact that there is no room for it. The only issue i have with it is that his right knee is slightly too large...I realized that i must shave off and flatten BOTH leg segments. I learned that quickly and did a similar cut on another model to much better results. (See the third guy down). Despite a few niggles, this build took alot of planning, GSing, and smoothing of strange angles. (cutting the feet in half to reinforce the leaning forward). I wanted him to be ripping this food apart in a bloody visceral mess. I think i nailed it
Enough Talk! Here he is: ((I zenithaled him simply for photoing purpouses. Hell look the same as the rest once painted))

whew. the next two gents arent nearly as crazy, but im getting much quicker with smoothly adding the carbine to the right arm, and sculpted some fingers wrapped around a readied grenade on # 2.

#2

#3

And finally, a little bit of incentive for all of you who have joined the comp. Heres the little bugger ill be painting for the winner of the best color scheme award. We are just under a month from finish! A lot of people have said they are entering but ive only seen a few actual entries! Nudge Nudge!!!

What say you to these conversions?? They are currently in my luggage under the plane! Keep your fingers crossed that nothing terrible happens to em!

Cheers BB

Cheers guys!

That might be the most terrifying kroot i've ever seen (talking about #1 here). Your conversions are fantastic.

I moved in with my parents over Xmas, so no progress on the comp entry. Althought, i got IA1 for crimbo, and i have a massive boner for Guard right now lol.

Wow!! again! Kroot #1 is simply perfect and captures them during a fight like nothing i've seen before! you have the best minds eye for seeing how they should and could look! I also am a big fan of the Knife wielding Kroot as well, I think I need to get my hands on a great Knarloc to send you just so i can see what you do ;-)

Beautiful sculpting. Great posing. And they just look awesome. I love the Kroot myself, not really had a go yet. Yours are very inspirational though, look sooo good. No. 1 is right up my street, perfect pose and something to distract folk while you run in and kill them. I am with Nerdy, would love to see what you do with some of the other models.

Bebop...sorry I haven't been able to post but amazing work.

Since I last could comment a couple of pages ago, let me say that I think it's fantastic you have unique, brightly coloured pieces. It's also Totally appropriate to the setting. I mean, you don't get much more grim dark than the Imperium, you don't get much more Imperium the the astartes and those guys are as flamboyant as it comes( I say this as someone that plays IF - a faction noted to be dour, serious and above all else - bright yellow!)

As for the stealth suit he was shaping up well man, but I know what you mean. If you aren't feeling it it's better to walk away.

I absolutely love your three new guys. The pose on all three are so dynamic, the conversion and green stuff work is first class. Can not wait to see them with paint!

Hey guys! Thanks alot for the kind words! I cant wait to paint them! Especially number 1! Now to just figure out what the heck hes eating Im thinking ill go with a lime green bloody mess. Who knows....red blood might just not be alien enough for these fellas.

Heres just a quick pic update. While back in los angeles i was able to take a few photos that i could not otherwise. The first is a "class pic" of the almost finished kroot squad. The second is a newer and much cleaner and better pic of the missionary i painted i while back. I dont mean to rehash old works, but both of these pics are giant and should be clicked so they can be zoomed in for super crisp view. Anyways. Thanks for looking fellas (ps i posted these to the showcase forum too, im really not spamming i swear =_=)

Hey BB. Just catching up on the sub' list.
I like the new kroot. Lots of character in the poses. I may even steal borrow the pose idea for the crouching/eating one.

Keep it up.

Amazing group-shot! The colours are so vibrant, my english vocabulary fails to express my feelings about this!

Don't know if you already mentioned it, but what's next after this squad?

Fellows thanks ! Im glad you guys like it! I kinda jumped the gun and threw up a group shot just shy of them being completed, but no worries. Ill finish these last 3 + drone and do a final shot! lol.

As for my next project i think ill be doing the second squad of four of these kroot.

Develain, do you think i could get away with doing the second squad in a completely different, yet equally vibrant, color scheme??

If anything I'd say add "warpaint" to show the different unit.

Why don't you try painting up a kroot in your new scheme idea? I think it sounds very interesting and there is no reason that a mercenary army of Xenos couldn't come from different tribes or planets and evolved differently. I would go so far as to suggest shaving off their head quills and replacing them with tentacle looking appendages or something subtly different as well. The Tau sept armor sounds good too.. Throw in a shaper and kroot hound or that big FW thing and you have a winner. Keep the red hand print on the shoulder and bases to tie them all together.

YES. Tentacles??? Amazing idea. can i have it?? Thats the thing, it would look awesome if they were all painted up the same >_<, and it could look really awesome if they are painted up in different sept/xeno colors....gah

and the hounds will probaby be my pathfinder counts as...maybe...

Of course you can have it. I wouldn't have posted it if I wouldn't have wanted to see you do it. I had the movie Predator dreadlocks in mind when I typed that but you could just as easily do the Davey Jones from Pirates of the Carribean style "living" Cthulhu thing as well. Either one would be equally as awesome in my mind. I think the different colors/patterns is worth exploring at least on one model for science and curiosity.
