Fantastic work, really popping. The depth of contrast on the hair is fantastic.

Love the skin tone Bebop! she looks a lot like my fiance lol, she even has powerful thighs......but seriously, that's some more great work, that skin blending is really good and if i'm correct it's not many layers? which goes to show what you can do when blending a rather wet paint across an entire face.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

@ Red, good idea, ill push the hair a tudge up with some white.

@ Damo youre a lucky man sir. And yup, you are correct! really just brown glazes and red glazes. and not much of either.

More progress! Im leaving the white crosses alone....nuff said...anymore messing about and ill ruin the damn thing. I must have repainted 1micometer of a corner 12 times today!! >_< ... im pleased in general with the progress, i gotta smooth a higlight on the left knee pad, and actually MOST of todays work was on the belt. and waist area. mostly the front and started the back waist. Also the reds got a bit of glazing attention...

heres pics.

cheers!!

I demand your method for that colour hair NOW! because it looks awesome and on that scale you have SMASHED it! :-) the whole model is a really expert level job mate, that head as a focal point is eerily lifelike to my eyes.

Stunning man. Her face and hair are just so realistic... it's amazing.

I know right! I'm a serious face painter and love to get my skin on but this is just so perfect, it's subtle and I think that's the secret to it. faces aren't 'hard' you just need to approach them differently, and Bebop has mastered the small face like no one else!

Joan is looking awesome! A question, is that putty like stuff holding her to that grip re-useable? and what is it, and where can you get it?

Guys cheers alot for the positive feedback, im pleased that her progress is well recieved!

Damo the hair recipe is basically a bubonic brown like color base, with a light brown wash. then dark brown wash. then repaint the bubonic, then begin layering in some sort of cream like color to light it up to wheat like colors...
and then white

Shaz: yes its blutac. super reusable and doesnt leave residue which some others can.

JOAN OF ARC IS FINISHED......i think. God damn a lot hours went into this one, i think i might put the brushes down for a week or so. Im pretty pleased with her. Alot of new techniques trying out here that worked generally, al though i will say, its taking me alot more time to do but the colors are more vibrant. I think the next model i build will be big so i can practice this better. Any ways heres just a pile of shots i took, maybe will put up better pics later.

BB

Dudes and dudettes ...thanks! She was really fun to paint!! On this miniature i tried to focus on learning a new approach to painting, which is to after laying down a fully opaque basecoat (which i have not done in a long time), to instead of obsessing over smoothness, to just essentially throw paint around and set your shadows and highlight areas, without so much care, and then later, glaze everything together. The idea i guess that A.) ultimately you have more control over everything and can see the steps ahead better and B.) that glazing fixes everything. It was a scary prospect to do so and i started with her top, which is the weaker part of the mini in my eye, and the legs i felt a bit more comfortable with the concept, and look a bit tighter. Id like to try this on a much larger miniature to really practice it, its a bit nerve wracking on such a small and rare fig! Other areas that i would've liked another shot at are the face and sword....i repainted the sword 3 times and i felt that anymore id start obscuring detail. Oh well...here's a final pic (recommended size, and full size embaed)

OH-I Wanna get out of here

She looks great. I can see how doing a new technique on a rare figure could turn out terrible, but I don't think you had that issue. I'd be interested to see you try it in several larger sizes. Maybe like some FW Eldar stuff?

Edit: Might want to throw the big pics in spoilers. While I enjoy them, others might have an issue.

One of the pics is at the recommended size. I put the large because my PC, my phone, AND my ipad all resize the Large pic to be in focus and normal sized. The pic i put at recommended size appears blurry to me on my own devices, and thats a bummer seeing as i put 30+ hours of paint on that model. So, selfishly, i put the larger pic as well so i can view my own work at the resolution its meant. Sorry <3

Turned out spectacular. Very, very nice use of blues. You could always paint a TAG for a larger mini. The Seraph maybe? It is part of the same sectorial as Jeanne, in game, so it would be fitting. And it is an excellent mini too.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Is that an Ott-Lite I see in the background of a few of the photos?

I find that I like a smaller diameter holder for the mini when painting. It allows for more angles to paint from. I see that Jeanne is blue tac attached to a fairly large diameter holder. (I'm guessing because the sword and scabbard overhang the mini's base.)

The hair really did come out well.

Hey all! Thanks for your interest and friendly and positive comments!

@Wirecat! Hello! Is joan of arc an often painted model? I didnt do an extensive google search but found but a few really pretty versions of the model

@aku-chan! Hi Thanks! Youre a great painter yourself. i like the models you choose to paint!

@Red: Thanks! Yup an OTT but im gonna upgrade soon but i love the OTT light, really been a big part of my painting. i use 2 next to each other. And also YES agreed about the base, unfortunately, i get carpal pain, as a drummer, if im squezzing something too thin...so i use a grip that keeps my hand open...i should think of a way to combine the two, not often, but every now and then i can get into some tricky positions....

AAND now for something completey different...i decided to just paint up this box of trollkin i had lying around...and i gotta say....they are fun to paint....i was craving a kinda just throw paint around, get dirty, no cares, went with it and also sorta inspired by the whimsical watercolors of fairy paintings. Soooo, well see, i got two up, they are a bit tought to photo right off the bat, but im not going for cleanliness or even matching. If i follow this through, i want each model to just be a whimsical mish mash of forest magic colors, and almost froglike forest folk....again, this is just for my own joy of literallly slapping paint on models....alot of areas had extenesive green and blue washes...
