Well, I've painstakingly scanned all my reference photos, every angle of the thing I have in print, here are my reference photos

It still leaves some details hidden to me, I'll have to improvise.

Also, I have the 'Munda blue and green colors and the ubiquitous hazard stripes down pat, but I need to incorporate more orange/red elements in the theme too.

Nice pics. It's quite surprising how dated and crude some of the constructions look though, the giant rivets especially. And in gameplay terms there is not enough partial cover around, especially on the high levels - lots of falling deaths. I wouldn't worry about having to improvise, you will be able to make much more detailed and interesting buildings than those.

Probably the most baffling thing though, looking back at it now, is why they painted all the bases in goblin green even for Necromunda models.

Also nice to see Waterstones has a presence in the Underhive.

Looks like the different angles give a teaser of what to do.

Wow, that must have taken some time if you paged through as many White Dwarf mags as I think you did...

The WIP pics are looking good, cant wait to see this thing painted up. Super fast work too BTW.

The -=]_,=- has interests in all forms of riveting, but back in the 90's, I think all the GW Studio team had to work with was a paper punch, I think that explains the huge rivets....(not that there is anything wrong with huge rivets mind you) I am of course, using my -=]_,=- powers here to hopefully "improve" on their old 20th Century riveting techniques, modernizing them.

You can't have all your walkways with cover though, there needs to be strategic gaps to make them run for it and that helps to make Overwatch the evil/awesome thing it is

I have a theory on the Goblin Green bases: -It's the pre-production thing again, they used that infamous sump and bunker terrain for 40k too back in the day (reference pic #2 @ 1:00 (bunker) and 4:00(sump), respectively) it was their first studio terrain. Necromunda was GW's first delve into GW-produced terrain, so they were painting goblin green because it fit those two terrain pieces. I'd LOVE to sit down over a pint or three with Dave Andrews and ask him all sorts of questions, but I'd probably be too much of a fanboy. I spoke to an ex-GWer at GenCon (now working for Warlord Games and Rick Priestley), and he chuckled at the fact that I saw these guys that he is drinking buddies with as hobby Demi-gods

Waterstones? what is that?

I think It'll fit in with the rest of my little corner of the Underhive inspired by the same Studio terrain:

@Fango, not White Dwarf, just the Battles book (compilation of WD articles) and the rule/source books.
I got tired of flipping through this pile of books for my reference pics, and decided to put them all in one spot.

10th pic down, the big W sign. It's a UK bookshop logo. Just a coincidental choice of font I guess.

I just posted in another thread about walkways, but I found that really the more cover the better especially on higher up terrain. If you don't have enough then you encourage people just camping on overwatch in a bit of hardcover all game, and you discourage people moving around on high levels (which are absolutely lethal with no railings to prevent falling). It's a bit of a problem with Necro - there is very little reason to use high terrain a lot of the time and it takes a bit of planning to make scenery that people will use to the full.

Fango asked me via PM:

Fango wrote:Hey there, I've recently started to follow your Necromunda project blog...and was wondering, how do you earn membership to the illustrious League of Extraordinary Riveters?

Thanks!

Fango

Since we get asked that a lot, I thought I'd post it publicly:

I'm glad you asked Fango!

The answer is simple: Show us the Rivets!

You must prove yourself by Riveting...extraordinarily!
We are not known as the League of Mediocre Riveters after all

What is Extraordinary Riveting?

Well that is open to interpretation by the individual Modeler. The League is a Pro-Hobby brotherhood of banter, BS, encouragement, and technique sharing; challenging modelers of all skill levels to add an unprecedented level of detail to their creations with rivets. Some people like myself just go bat-shiit crazy with sheer quantity of rivets, (I prefer sliced plastic rod) experiencing the metaphysical state known as "Rivet Zen" as coined by our patriarch (and Cult leader) Viktor VonDomm.

Others find new and unusual techniques for riveting, such as Shasolenzabi, who prefers liquid CA (super glue) rivets, or Vik who is a master of the leather punch. We believe all Riveting methods are created equal and all have their benefits. There is no right or wrong way to rivet. We simply ask first and foremost that you RIVET and share the pics

That is partly why I have a fetish for little resin crates and other scatter terrain

Ahh..I wondered what the W was for, according to the map in the Battles book, this thing I'm building is a Power Generator..perhaps they rented out the bottom floor as a bookshop?

Thanks dsteingass, I have two rather 'riveting' projects ( ) that have been in-progress for far too long. I will get some pictures of them up this week. One is the Imperial Firebase card terrain set that came out in the 90s, which I embellished with plastic-card, and the other is a pumping station of sorts with two vertical storage tanks (dog-food cans covered in cereal box card and sheet and tube styrene) They both have loads of rivets already, but could always do with a few more! I will post a link to my Newbie blog here when I get them up!

Cool Fango! I can't wait to see!
Oh the Imperial Firebase that came wit Necromunda Bulkheads? That's another one I've always wanted to remake myself!
I have the original instruction sheet for it, but I never had the cardstock. I think I acquired it one time in a box of primed of Necromunda Bulkheads I got second-hand.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Ooh, looking good... And the nostalgia trip is also a lot of fun. Has me itching to dig out the old books and WDs. Strangely my kids had my old Necormunda and Outlanders scenery out the other week.

And as for the Imperial FireBase - I got me the old 2nd ed. Imperial bunker and also the IG Command Tower, thy're great pieces just calling out for some plasticard love - I can see one of my next projects being to update my Neco set now and can use this wonderful thread for my inspiration...

Going back to the Battle Book, is my memory serving me well - do I recall a WD with instructions on how to build an Arbites armoured car, similar to the 6-wheeled beauty in those photos, now there would be a great scratchbuild (if it hasn't already been done here...)

That's Mike McVey's Arbite armoured car, I always thought it was very cool, although now I think Arbites in Repressors would be even cooler.
