That's Mike McVey's Arbite armoured car, I always thought it was very cool, although now I think Arbites in Repressors would be even cooler.

And, remember. This was in the 1990's. Back when GW was so totally awesome. No 3rd party wheels, nothin'. Just Plasticard, toy trucks, deodorant bottles, and a dream.

Also reasonable prices...

This thread continues to make me all misty eyed for the good 'ol days

Thank the lord we have Dakka Dakka to help us revisit those halycon days... That Arbite a/c is a thng of beauty, Mike McVey is a god amongst men, always enjoyed seeing his conversions and dioramas, especially the Space Hulk scene he did

I haven't even seen most of this since Necromunda hit a couple of years before I got into the hobby. It was still being sold when I started, but there were very few WD articles about it at the time.

I miss my old collection of WD's... unfortunately, they had to spend time in storage, and rats decided to... use them.

Thanks! This thread seems to be of more interest to people when it's about the Old Skool. There's just a style about it that is missing nowadays with the skull-festooned newfangled stuff.

Seriously, I didn't mind them when they were mostly human-sized skulls, but now they are giant heads. Why would humans create so many giant skulls in architecture? It just reminds me of the Old-skool stuff from the Terragenesis days utilizing cheap plastic Halloween skull rings and such. One or two can be tasteful on an Admech logo or something, but it's getting a bit much lately. The Wall of Martyrs is cool terrain, but either make the piles of dead optional bitz, or leave them off, I'm so sick of seeing Cadian helmets.

Yeah. Me too. I've never really cared for the Cadians. If it came down to it, I'd have chosen either the Valhallans or Mordians as my Guard army. I chose Valhallans, obviously. At the time, I was coming out of the army, and didn't understand why someone would wear a dress uniform in combat, but I get it now. I really, really do.

But yeah, it seems like there was something about 40k then that is missing now. I don't know if it's the skulls, but it's definitely something.

I'm getting ready to place an order to Plastruct for some sheet/rod/tube styrene, what do you tend to use as your staple go to thicknesses and rod diameters (for rivets and such)?

I think their 1:48 diamond plate is closest to 28mm scale for textured floors, etc.

Also, Ive noticed some of your fallout themed vending machines (NukaCola and such). Did you scratch build those? Or did you find someone who sells scaled resin versions?

That kinda sparks an idea to make some of those weapon and ammo vending machines from Borderlands...I could see gangers using them to find their d3 rare trade items! Or buying ammo and grenades during a shoot out!

No sign of the package yet, and I need to get off my ass and ship yours too yet!
I've got several ideas, it's another one of those vacu-formed kits, so it'll take quite a bit of putty work, but I'll really need to wait until I get the pieces cut out and cleaned up before I can explore the possibilities of the walls. It's 1/35 scale, and large for 28mm, but the bricks fit the scale, so it should work out for some cool terrain piece.

I buy rods of any size I find in stores to stock up, but 1mm is my standard go-to for rivets. You'll probably want some larger hex rods too for nuts. A 1mm round rivet on top of a 2-3mm hex Rivet makes a nice combo
Evergreen Styrene is generally cheaper to buy than Plastruct for basic shapes, but Plastruct makes more specialty shapes. You always want to use O scale or 1:48 diamond plating. HO scale just looks too small.

Yes! You can (and should) purchase those machines from http://www.rivetzone.com ! After all, as far as I know, we are the only producer of 28mm Nuka Cola machines in the whole world.

I think it's safe to say that more buildings will be in my future very soon
I've had a setback on the power generatorium building, the fascia pieces I cut are 1/16" too wide, so I stripped them off and will need to cut new ones to do the layered stone look, stay tuned.

Dave, what can i ebay search for the 'trim' stuff? I can use it for railings etc. and it looks pretty darn... well,... pretty :-)

I just searched for "Grandt Line grab bag"- Sorry dood, I bought the last two bags of trim my seller had.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Grandt-Line-O-3556-Trim-Grab-Bag-Lots-Trim-post-rails-ect-Plastic-/390496286776?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item5aeb647838&ssPageName=RSS:B:STORE:US:101

You should be able to get it from any train store though...
http://www.trainmastermodels.com/product-p/glp3556.htm
Actually cheaper here

Back to the Miniart Workshop kit:

The wall panels are vacu-formed styrene, you see how you have to trim each half and then they join together to form a wall with texture on both sides.
I'm thinking that with a bit of ingenious plasticard work, altering the inside textures, I can get twice as much out of the kit.
We'll see.

Just in case anyone is confused as to the scale, normally 1/35 figures are closer to the 54mm scale, but because our 40k sense of scale is so skewed, 1/35 structures are very adaptable to 40k 28mm scale, as long as you remove or re-engineer any scale-buster details.
Here is my inspiration/idea pool in photos:

The door archway can easily be converted into a huge factory window

Or boarded over if you wish

Or if you look closely @ 19th Century brick buildings, the first or ground floor is often higher (or raised 1.5X) as the stories above it.

Some of you may be saying "Hey Dave, brick buildings don't seem very 40k to me"...
Look at the effect you get when you mix steel and iron elements to the organic brick materials....all we need are some Aquillas here and there and instant grimdark

Look, even my favorite 'Munda blue and Government green colors!

That's pretty neat. I used to work in a southern cotton mill when I was a teenager. Those giant arch windows are so familiar it almost looks like it came directly from the mill I worked in. There do not appear to be any pictures online of the mill I used to work in. Bummer.

It's hard to see in the pics, but these are some specialty O scale textured plasticard that matches the brick pattern perfectly.

So awesome! And I'm guessing that it comes in a bit more affordable than GW stuff

A friend is taking interest in =][=munda ("Why didn't you tell me that there was a game where you only needed 6 guys?!?!?!"), I will need to start aquiring similar buildings

What you need to do is add a metal catwalk like in your reference pics between the first and second floors. Now that would be a great piece of terrain!

Great use of kit and sheets love the vent sections under the windows really adds the industrial feel, I thought you might have used the windows from the grab bag (not saying yours are not any good ) did they not fit

Have to say I am not keen on the power cell/generator thing hanging from the wall but thats just MO the rest is great.

LOL, that is a bracket holding ceramic insulators for power cables that will eventually be strung across it- I haven't yet decided where it will be, things are just blu-tacked, not glued yet.
I just ordered the window bags, they haven't arrived yet. Perhaps Her Majesty's Royal Mail is that efficient, but not here!
