Reaper-
First off, I just wanted to say that your Cy-crons look awesome! And I love the conversions.
... and because of their awesomeness, I was wondering if you could share some tips with working with Alcad II Chrome. You're really the only person I've seen attempt it on GW models, and I'd like to do the Canopteks of my Crons in chrome too...
... Sooo, what's your secret process, oh Master of the Shiny Ones? What Primer/Base coat are you using? Better luck with laquers or enamels? Do you let them dry fully or apply the alcad after only an hour? How resilient is the chrome (does it rub off easy, or do you need to wet it to take off the shine?)? Have you sealed the models after chroming them, and if so, did it change the shine?
There's alot of misinformation out there regarding this paint. I'd appreciate any help you could give.
Thanks!
BTW- Fixed wing or Rotor? I fly Medevac in the US Army.

First off I see some really cool poses and conversions. The Crepteks are especially nice. The look better than the GW model! The color scheme is great, lots of ceramics out there but nothing like your chrome. The eyes are sweet too, really matches the theme you have going.

Thanks for all the compliments and it is fixed wing, though the army kindly let me have 1hr on a squirell and I got on quite well, I could hover, hover taxi and fly a circuit! Great to hear from a fellow pilot!
As for the Alclad paints, I used the Alclad gloss black as an undercoat, I got the big bottle and haven't run out yet. Give the models two light coats of this and I tended to let it then dry for at least 24hrs (no need to wait that long between coats of the gloss black). Then I applied a coat of the chrome, the lighter you are with this coat the darker the chrome and it seems shinyer too to me, you get more of a Hematite effect. After that coat is applied to your tastes you may want to touch up a bit more chrome as it is easy to miss bits. After that it is quite easy to accidently rub off the chrome so be carefull with handling them. I then coated them in Alclad's Aqua Gloss, which is what they reccomend. Be careful with this stuff and don't let it dry in your airbrush or you will ruin it. After all the paints flush out with water and then use the Alclad airbrush cleaning fluid, it is very good for their paints but you will want a well ventilated area as it really smells bad. I'm sure you could gloss varnish them instead though I would stear clear of Ard coat/matt varnish as they will loose their shine.
Hope all that is helpful! Safe flying.

Thanks 40kFSU, always nice to be appreciated. The cryptecks are also way cheaper than the fine cast ones too, I basically sacrificed a box of warriors to make crypteks and make up some of the other types of models like Immortals that I have some spare parts for.
These boys might be in action this weekend for my clubs tournament but just can' decide which army to take!

The Necrons were in action today at the Angry Badgers tournament, Badger Brawl. This is my local gaming group. So it was three games, I won my first and third game getting me a third equal result. My list looked like this;
Imoteck
Over lord + command barge, warscythe, res orb, Phlyactry, phase shifter, mind shackle scarabs
Royal court
Lord, warscythe, res orb, mind shackle scarabs
Harbringer of destruction, eldritch lance, solar pulse
Royal court
Harbringer of destruction, eldritch lance, solar pulse
6 Warriors + Ghost arc
6 Immortals
3 Wraiths 2x whipcoils
4 Scarabs
3 Tomb Spyders, gloom prisim, 2x fabricator claws
Doom Arc
Monolith
Had a hard fought battle aginst wolves in the first game, came down to kill points to decide it, I had killed way more and had just over 1300 points left on the table.
Second game was against another Necron player, quite a different army though, he made every dice roll he needed (or so it seemed) where as I had a mare at one point I rolled 6 dice and 5 came up with ones.
Third game against Grey knights, actually went really well, he sat Cortez and a squad of termies in the corner on an objective for the entire game and they did nothing, I killed most of the rest of the army, held one objective and contested his cortez objective with my command barge and the over lord. The other two objective had one each of our units but they werent troops choices so I won with one objective!
Overall I felt I needed another troops choice for objectives, the doomsday arc wasn't that good, I should have taken a cryptek or two with viels of darkness for teleportation shinannigans. Scarab farm worked well and the scarabs ate thier way through a LR redeemer, a chimaera and a group of psykers in the third game.
Well lots of fun and the last time I'll be playing with 5th edition, so game on 6th!

Congratulations Reaper! I have a 2 year old girl, she is the best. Dont worry about the hobby. I actually get more hobby time than usual since she was born. I have been home a lot more and when a kid is napping all you can really do is sit there and be quiet, perfect for modeling! Enjoy!

Painting a nursery is considerably more rewarding but considerably less fun than painting mini's. Go figure.

Looking nice!
How are you doing your wash/shading? I was going to say the Nuln Oil/Badab Black is a bit matte for such shiny Necrons, but I suppose that might add a very nice effect to it, to counterbalance all the glares. The reason I was curious is because I use a glossy, very strong wash for my silver Grey Knights, and I was wondering how the washes flow on that chrome paint (very oily, I imagine!).

Fenrir posted this link in another thread http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2011/10/tutorial-using-dayglow-colors.html A good bright red may emulate the glowing eyes of Terminator.
Great stuff here, If i was playing necrons I'd give it a try, as it is i might try this stuff on a few pieces of kit for my guardsmen.

Actaully I just used badab black but I didn't wash I just put it in the recesses. It flows fine, I top the chrome off with Alclad aqua gloss.
Interesting thread. Thanks for dropping in! Give the Alclad a go, they have a fantastic range of metallic paints.

Here we go, the chroming of the Scythes and the Doomsday Arc. They are not finished yet, I haven't even attached the weapons yet to the scythes! Still I am very pleased with the results so far.
