If you stick to skirmish games it's not that much money really... at least if you can restrain yourself... but then again who can when it comes to toy-soldiers... forget what I said.
I'm a jotum fan as well, but I'm sticking to ALEPH for now, otherwise I'll start collecting another faction before having played with the first. so much for selfrestraint!

Cheaper my ass! LOL I just built a $300+ shopping cart at Sarissa's site, adding a 3x3' table's worth of the cool pods, walkways, silos and supports and such. That's waaay too much money. I cancelled it. It looks so cheap when it is in GBP

But that Sarissa stuff is soooo nice =P
Really =)

But I recommend making several small orders.
The smaller the order is, the less the chances of having to pay customs =P

WHAT? YOU? I fully expected you to come up with 100% scratchbuilt terrain, that blows my mind to kingdom come (again). No seriously those silos are gross, but the pods are lovely...
But you're right of course, terrain can cost a lot, unless you have a few thousand hours of free time at your disposal or want to play on a piece of carpet with some (hopefully washed) yoghurt and ice cream containers as terrain.

After spending so much on aquiring everything needed to build a (theoretically) great table for Necromunda, I'm glad my decision to pick up Inf came during and not after the building process, that way I can keep an eye on making it suitable for both (with the exception of a few pieces of scenery). Even though I'd like to have another 12 inches (for infinity), but then again who doesn't?!

Guys, how do AT-43 and Dust Tactics mechs scale with Infinity figures? I was thinking if they could be used for some sort of an old TAG junkyard/parking lot.

I dunno, I need at least a litmus test for overall aesthetics first before I can make anything from scratch that blends well. Galorn is painting up a bunch of the silos and pods right now, the silos aren't that bad really.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

If it's any consolation dsteingass, it is possible to do it a lot cheaper!

I've made all of the terrain on my board (which includes a mix of scratch built and pre-made HDF) for less than £100, link to my terrain building blog is in my sig!

At this point the board is probably about 85% complete:

The great thing is of course that you can always use the terrain for other games. I've also got some snow/desert covered boards, so it would be pretty easy to move a lot of this terrain over onto another board for a change of environment (for campaigns and things like that).

CDK wrote:lol there's room for both! Well if you have the money I guess. I sure don't!

Absolutely! I have far too much of far too many game systems (working on projects for 4 different things at the moment!) Sometimes I wish I just stuck to one system, but then I always get wistful about whatever I've sold and end up buying more of it..

The mechs will be fine. I'm using some alongside my Mantic Forge Father army (bearing in mind this guy is about two thirds height of an infinity figure.)
That's a great idea actually, think I might steal it!

Pic in spoilers as it's not Infinity related:

Very nice board man! I have that MicroArts apartment block on the way to me in the mail right now, that'll be my cornerstone peice. And I'm sorry to disagree with Baiyuan, but I just don't see these buildings in the Underhive at all, it just doesn't fit the grimdark IMHO.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I mean sure they will work for terrain, but I like my boards to have a little more style cohesion personally.

Haha right.. actually the unpainted ones in that pic are my friends, so does that count?

I think buying terrain differs from minis in that it is very easy to spread around a group! I did it previously with Mordheim (my friend and I both making buildings for it) and now we are doing it again with Infinity, definitely helps with both costs and speed of making a board. My friend is making his own 'Aleph base' board, which will have its own style to it, but some things (such as the MaS apartment buildings) should be easily moveable from board to board.

I've also spread 2 kits into 3 buildings (although might have to change that soon to squeeze in the noodle bar!)

I just got my first MAS apartment jigsaw puzzle yesterday, along with a couple sets of Interior walls, and the foam barracks with jigsaw tower (pics in my P&M thread, The Necromunda Project). I'm fairly impressed so far, the only thing that totally sucks is the ladder on the tower..It's horrible, and needs covered up and a new ladder added.

Standard Board size for Infinity games is 3x3' correct?

3 x 3 is the minimum really. You'll be on your opponent super quick.

Infinity is a rare gem of a skirmish game for many reasons but one reason is that it benefits from long range weaponry and multiple moves per model. Given these I tend not to play on less than a 4 x 4 but where ever poss I would say the optimal size is 6 x 4 playing length ways! Just remember to use lots of LOF blocking terrain!

I'd say the standard is 4'x4'. At least, it seems the most used by the players, and the old two scenarios and the newer Prisioner 09 seem to be created for that size.

That is what bitz boxes are for.

I find building the basic underlying structure to be the tedious part. Adding details and painting/weathering are the fun parts...

Yep, I wonder how much we will have to pay for shipping.

When you compare with Sarissa, which is 25-50% cheaper and shipping is free with ~80$.
It would really need to provide nice things uncovered by other compagnies

I quite like the towers and I'd buy 1-2 Industrial Pack

Bit of a random question. Anyone know why this thread has now got big 'REDACTED' messages in place of the pictures? I had the thread on my favourites list as it had some great pictures of terrain using those cheap plastic packing boxes IIRC, and wanted to post them on here.

You still having that problem Pacific? Did you try clearing out your browser cache? There are only two broken images in this thread i think.

I forgot how awesome this thread was, i'm glad i came back to read it over! Since this thread is linked in the sticky, has anyone got anything new to share? I'm starting to think i won't have room for a game board in my house never mind a few. Anyone got good storage solutions?

OK thanks for that mate, I will try and see if it makes any difference!

Yes I know what you mean about storage solutions for terrain - I've got all of mine in storage crates, but it is still a major operation to get everything packed and put away each time!

A couple of pics of a completed board we played on at Total Wargamer the weekend just gone:

Your boards always look excellent, pal! If i can get close to your standard i'll be ecstatic.

I'm hoping to devise some sort of system where i can have my boards set up but i can also fold them away for storage. I'll almost definitely be integrating all of my terrain so i need to make allowances for quite a large volume per board.

The low level road set is all weathered up waiting for photos, and the listings are ready on the website (just hidden), between Ed's night class and me getting ready to leave my job for good this week they've been left in the workshop for a while just waiting to be turned into boxart :(

They'll definitely be out after this weekend (promise!)
