Stern Iron Priest with Thrall Bodyguard

Redondo Beach

ordered mine yesterday...
$80 for the LE version, yes please...

the Chaplain is a sub-par sculpt in comparison to minis like the jump pack Chaplain, but for an extra $8, when the new plastic WFB characters are $15 each, it seems too good to pass up...

since i'm just a painter, there are only a few minis i really look forward to painting in this set...

the DA Librarian is probably my fave...
the Captain should be fun to paint...
the rest, meh...

for Chaos, the Hellbrute should look good in Nurgle colors...
the leader should make a nice Black Legion Marine...
the Chosen leader will be a good Dark Apostle...
the twin lightning claw Chosen will be Night Lords...
while the guy with the drum mag Bolter will make a nice Dornian Heresy Blood Angel, since they empraced Papa Nurgle...

the cultists will be a cheap way of getting the bad guys for a diorama i've had in mind for a few years, a Hot LZ/Dustoff scene of Elysians loading up on a Valk while the cultists close in...
these cultists have just enough motion to be perfect for the dio...

so many ideas!!!

cheers
jah

AoBR's individual parts never added up to double the price of the box via UK ebay.

Given that at that point in time I was one of those selling it, I beg to differ...

Even if you did 120 quid from AOBR was no way near typical.

Too right, even if the Terminators and Dreadnought sold well, you could never make anything on the Orks! Only the mini rule book kept the AOBR profitable on ebay in my experience... and I sold five or six!

Looking back through my sales records, for about the first 6 months the components on ebay consistently sold for around twice the Oz retail price of the box. So yes, pretty much bang on the £120. It gradually dropped off after that.

Given the quality of the minis in this set, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it does substantially better,

Can't really see the point in using Wayland Games. The shipping cost knocks the price back up to standard GW wholesale... May as well order from the ol' Gee-Dub and collect in store for the same cost?

There is a Free shipping voucher running at the moment... the banner is on the site.

Aye. I know that, however if you read the page for the box release:

Bulky: Bulky: Please note this item is bulky and is not covered by any free shipping promotion.

We will allow it to pass on DV boxed sets though

Indefinitely? For September? How long will you let DV pass?

From Total wargamer. (running the best deal IMO)

The Warhammer 40,000: Dark Vengeance boxed game contains a 1168-page Rulebook, a 48-page Getting Started booklet, Dice, Templates, Range Rulers and almost 50 Citadel miniatures.

That's one HEFTY rule book..... :p

So it seems the new chaos cultists are going to be divided into sects:
Games Workshop wrote:"They stand alongside Chaos Cultists made up of Sect Anarkus, which carries close combat weapons, and Sect Tetchvar, which carries ranged weapons such as autoguns. Both units are garbed in sinister-looking cloaks, masks and hoods.

with different sects utilizing different weapon combinations, and possibly special rules.

I think people might not be as willing to buy repeated sets, since the unique poses don't look as well in bulk as the more generic ones from AOBR.

The Marines having DA iconography will probably hurt individual sales on ebay later on, while the previous ones could easily be used to fill in squads for other marine armies.

If this was calculated, it was a smart move from Games-Workshop, from a certain point of view.

I'm not seeing the shipping being that cheap. I found it for about your price, but without any mention of it being the LE version.

Agreed. Even if the figures are quite cheap in 2 or 4 years (barring boxed set price rises), the loose figures from this are going to be in demand for quite awhile.

The Dark Angels Deathwing Sergeant looks terrible. The helmet clips through the armor, the pose looks so weird... simply not a good model, especially when compared to any of the new Chaos models.

Yeah, the price is amazing. IMO, much better model range then Black Reach, but their asking the same price. Very odd for GW to pass up an opportunity to squeeze some more money from us.

GW is like cell phone companies: very eager to get new customers (hence the bargain price for the starter set) but don't give a damn about existing ones since they're locked in (hence the price of everything else)

I still can't believe that in a squad of 5 Terminators and 6 Chosen that there is ONE DUPLICATE. Either monopse everything or for crying out loud just sculpt the single figure to make them each unique!

the chosen looks particularly bad considering the uniquness of the other members. the terminator i feel you can get away with.

Yeah. I need to find someone in my area who wants to trade me their Chaos stuff for my DA stuff when I get my box. I'm probably going to pick up the normal run box from either Game Empire in Pasadena or Pegasus in Montclair. Probably Pegaus.

Somebody has a dillema! I also guess Maelstrom will not add the box to their shop while their voucher is on. But there are enough options such as Wayland Games (10% of the limited edition) or other online shops or just direct.

Cheers and good luck deciding!
