I have great plans for my two DV-boxes, especially for the Chaos-side. Will designate cultistsquads by headswaps (Skullfaces and not-Riddick-faces will make out two separate 30-men "blobs" from my two boxes and a 'pals Chaos-part of his box that he sold to me for some cash... )

Now, how to convert two Helbrutes to not have three identical? Hmmm...

The Chosen and Chaos Lord appart from the ones from the "first box" will be hacked appart and rebuilt. Much fun conversions to come I wager!

On the Imperial side, the DA iconography is scraped of and will be replaced by Salamander Icons and "dragonscales". One bikesquad is scraped and ready to get "dragonscale"-treatment, while the second one will be hacked appart to get reposes along with the "basic scraping"...

My bitz order for 60 Cultists just shipped. I wonder if I'll get 'em before the actual box. That'd be pretty funny.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I went into my local GW at the weekend, and in the brief moments while the staffer there was not trying to sell me the starter set (and then the big rule book immediately after I said the only part of the new starter I wanted was the mini rule book because I don't need 90% of the stuff in the main rule book...) I had a look at the new models and have to say they got a huge "meh" from me.

The clutists are just boring, the marines are too DA (sorry Kan, but they are my least favorite colour marines ), the CSM were kinda OK and the terminators were... well... terminators. The bikes looked pretty silly with the big wings and so on all over them and the Hellbeast thing just looked like it was constipated.

None of the models looked dynamic and just seemed to stand there like tired old bags of flour.

Just a thought,

My local GW store is hosting a DV challenge that involves painting your faction in the Dv box and then gaming with it on the 29th. So unless they plan on using the rules from the starter set, maybe they will be able to use a new codex set of rules instead.

If you are jumping on the Dinobot meme bandwagon regarding the new Warhammer 40k Chaos models, grow the feth up!

He's going to jump through your window wearing a ninja costume, and take your Dark Vengeance box set. TAKE IT. A bit like Jervis used to do with 4th ed rulebooks back when 5th was released.

I got my two boxes today, they are well purty, I am seriously impressed with the level of detail all over and the amount of stuff packed into 4 sprues. I'm a bit disappointed that the quick reference sheets don't include any of the rules for psychic powers, so whilst they cover most aspects of game play, you still need to buy the silly box of cards they sell for a reference guide.

Also the red whippy sticks are still just as woefully short as they always have been, and both sets have already gone in the bin where they belong as they serve no function whatsoever.

Just curious about the bikes.

1. Is the front gunshield with the wings on it molded onto the bike, or is it a seperate piece?

2. I know the riders are seperate, but would it be possible to, say, attach some sort of other model to the bike as rider instead? Like say... I dunno... orks?

Because those bikes are selling for $15 for 3 on ebay, and a couple of the $25 nob boxes would make a great deal for some nob bikers. Heck, you can even buy the old AoBR slugga boys and slap them on bikes to get a ton of cheaper warbikers as well.

If anyone could add some input that would be great, because I really want to make a proper ork biker army, and this would be a MUCH cheaper way to do it than 3 bikes for $45 like they're going for right now :\

The marine legs are molded onto the bikes, only the torso is separate.
The winged fairings are not, there is a slot behind the bolters where the fairings fit.

Have I missed something, or are there no points values for the cultists/hellbrute anywhere? As far as I can see they can only be used in the crappy dark vengeance missions until a new codex comes out. Unless you use the cultists as IG allies or something? and then you're stuck using the brute as a crappy chaos dread.

I bought the box with the hope of actually being able to use it....not amused.

The Queen agrees.

Of course, what you both have to realise is that this is a starter set, it's purpose is not simply to furnish one with cheaper minis. Be patient sir and in the meantime, cats like boxes, perchance you have a cat that would love the box.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also consider this, the store price for the box in NZ is £105. What are you complaining about? It's amazing that they actually sell anything from their shops here.

There's also the back end of the bolters molded to the fairing.

Well, there goes that idea. Why on earth would they mold it like that?

Picked one up today at the FLGS, very impressed with the models.

The mold quality is excellent, and because they're "single pose" they have a lot of detail baked in. The DAs are a bit less impressive than the Chaos stuff, but that stuff is really, really great.

A great deal at the price they're asking, especially since the "little" rulebook is much preferrable for actually playing the game, and an extra set of templates and scatter dice never hurts.

Might convince me to paint up some Chaos (which is the point, right?).

I got a chance to look at an open box today at a local store and it was sort of Meh...

The hellbrute wasnt as big in real life as I expected he would be.

The cultists didnt pop as much as I had hoped. The Chaplain is a nice model.

I think I'm all set with this one.

we understand your mad because theres no trees in this set, dont have to gak on it because your not interested in them..

Looking at the WIP earlier on this page, it looks like the Chosen are... huge. Almost Terminator-sized, at least compared to the cultist. Are the latter Skull Pass-sized or, somefink?

The Chosen definitely look bigger than the DA tactical marines.

Someone mentioned they thought even the DA tacticals were bigger than the AoBR tacticals. Can anyone do a physical comparison?

The models do look amazing but the only thing I've encountered that was a little annoying is where some of the molds come together when they really should't, or there needs to be a little more spacing between sections.

The arm of the biker with the plasma rifle comes to mind immediately. All things considered though a very nice set.
It is sort of shocking to compare the new models to my old AOBR junk!

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

The Ravenwing fellas are still quite convertible, did my second batch last night.

Okay I had the advantage of having an Attack bike spare, but the simple conversions on the other two just required a weapon swap for the bolt pistol to chainsword, and to cut the arm off the plasma gunner, replacing with a bolt pistol arm.

The leader was a little tougher due to the head, but a quick greenstuff hood solved most of that issue, and sawing off the chainsword arm to replace with a biker arm, or other weapon holding limb would be pretty simple as well.

This concerns me. Can anyone post a pic comparing the DA tacticals, the AoBR tacticals, and a regular multipart tactical? Size creep is a bad thing IMO. Chosen being bigger than marines is acceptable. Marines being bigger than marines is not.
