So you'd like the Dark Angels if they were just a little less Dark Angelish?

well, one or two icons are fine, but they just scream "IMMA DARK ANGEL." at you- I had the same problem with death company, though it's just personal preference.

There is such a thing as OTT detail, where every surface is covered in the stuff.

Any I get I plan on turning into Deathwatch Termies anyway... so that presents a bigger problem.

Few interesting snippets...

Basic marine squads come with a built in/paid for Serg, but he is NOT a veteran, so is LD8. You can pay for him to be a veteran with the higher Ld.

Tactical marines that have 5-9 bodies in can buy either a special weapon OR a heavy weapon. At 10 you can buy both. IIRC a 10 man squad with Vet. serg, special and heavy works out about 10 points cheaper than a vanilla tactical squad.

Assault squads have no melta gun option, plasma pistol and flamers only ( serg. could take a combi weapon I think..). I guess this is so it matches the box set ?

Techmarines can now fortify any terrain piece in their deployment area, not just ruins.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

hell yeah !

They're "slot free" too, one per HQ,.. 50 points IIRC ?

I think a 5 man tactical squad, with missile launcher and flakk missiles comes to 95 points. So I can see almost a return to 4th edition time with lots of 5 man squads sat in cover firing heavy weapons at the enemy tanks whilst elite and/or fast attack units mop up the enemy.

Does read very much as if this book is being presented as the default usethisfornow book for regular marines, but YMMV.

Azrael can choose which DA warlord trait he takes or, presumably ( going from what's written in the BRB) roll on the regular tables in the BRB.

Scouts still there? I love me a Techmarine with Sniper/Camocloak scouts, nothing like a 2+ save to frustrate people.

Scouts are indeed there, 99% certain camo cloaks are an option.

.. there's also .. err..... some form of "night goggles" -- can't recall who can buy them, maybe scouts though ? -- which lets them ignore night fight but makes them more vulnerable to "Blind" attacks.

They're not called Nightvox? Or Shroudvox? Or... dare I say it... Darkvision? Just "night goggles". Bit lame. Not the idea (which is a bit unnecessary but whatever), but the name.

Maybe Scouts will be worth a damn in a DA army then. That can't be a bad thing. Maybe this is their "Sorry for making them Elites! We don't know what Jervis was thinking!" apology.

Sounds interesting. I'll have to give it a look whenever I can. I've been playing my Raven Guard using the Vanilla 'dex, but all I am really using out of it are scouts, scout bikes, and HQ. I know everybody is excited about "wing this and wing that", but if the core is solid I might give it a try.

Scouts can be decent in Vanilla dex, you just have to max them

"Infravisor" or something like that ? It sounded alright, no "dark goggles of black noireness. wing" or anything.

.. term sounded familiar anyway...maybe from the RPG books ? Could just be the way they've constructed the name of course.

10 man termie squads cannot combat squad, which is a relief and after a brief rules check I was quite relieved to find that the split fire rule only lets one fire a single weapon at a different target.

Libbys are dirt cheap, around 65 points IIRC.

Chaplains, in true GW fashion , manage to acquire the fearless rule in at least 2, possibly even 3 ways.

Can a 10-man Deathwing Terminator Squad *combat squad* into two 5-man units?

EDIT: D'oh! Ninja'd. Well, there goes the chance for some real utility for DW Squads. Very inane to not have included it.

Pretty certain it was infravisors.

Can't recall who can take them but we were thinking they'd be good on a techmarine with either devs. or scouts in the now obligatory fortified ruin/terrain piece.

... You thought it was a bit odd that every army went to battle with 12 odd foot of wall, wait until you see dark Angels deploying with their armoured bushes !

Mysterious Terrain. Iron Bark (or whatever it's called). Fortified.

What would that do?

Weren't they called infra-visors in the original Rogue Trader? I seem to recall you could get contact lenses which worked the same way too...

Fortified Aegis Defence Lines?

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

It's considered "Battlefield Debris (Defence Lines)" so I'm fairly certain it's no different to any other terrain.

I mean, you would probably want to ally in something else to really get use out of the 3+ cover save (or maybe ally a DA Techmarine into your main army), but it seems pretty nasty, and it never hurts to have your space marines shrug off plasma and lascannons like they are nothing.

edit: Even better, fly a Darkshroud around behind it too for Stealth and you are looking at 2+ cover.

Yes, 14 pts for a marine is ok even with stubborn.

Not sure what they were thinking with the lsv tho. Not Only is the model bad, 140ps för anything on a ls chassi is not worth it.
