Absolutely love the camo on these guys. I always thought "Camo is the colour of cowardice" should be the famous last words carved into someone's headstone; probably uttered just before the sniper took them out at 2,500m.

Although I'm wondering if maybe these guys started with white armour, and after a millenia of battle, just really need a good deep clean to be pure white again.

But they look great and I'm always glad to see custom chapters. Kudos on the table as well, looks amazing.

How many of these lot have come to a sticky end?

If i am not mistaken: Mantis warriors where wiped out. The Fire Hawks became the Legion of the Damned. The Tiger Claws where absorbed into the Astral Claws. All 3 of those happened at the Badab War

The Mantis warriors werent wiped out. They eventually surrendered and after Inquisitorial trial were found not guilty of heresy, but for being misled by the Astral Claws.
As pennace for their crimes they were sent out on crusade for something like 100 years, without resupply or being allowed to replace lost brothers.
Their crusade may now be over... not sure need to check the books again when I get home.
The Tiger claws were almost extinct and Lufgt Huron secretly absorbed them into the Astral Claws... Then he secretly embarked on a mission to build the Astral Claws up until they would be Legion sized, but this crime wasnt discovered until well into the Badab war.

BTW I love the camo marines and tanks, they are amazing.

Yeah , kinda funny , I can't see how any marines spring any successful ambushes in red armour either !
I like the grime on armour idea , maybe I could do some ceremonial dudes in White armour !

Too late ! Sold a load of 1990's squats in order to purchase a ready built and painted dwarf army from my FLGS !! All i have to do is make the movement trays !

Those forgefathers are kinda making me wish I'd not sold the squats ........!

One word 'Epic'.

I love your models, especially the vehicles! I would like to know how long they have taken you to do per vehicle? Certainly looks like a fair while, especially with the weathering and scraps / scratches.

Great work mate.

Thanks mate , off the top of my head I don't think I ever sat down and completed a vehicle from start to finish, I have the attention span of a goldfish and do bits and pieces here and there as the whim takes me. I think between two weeks and 12 months !!!!

The chips take a while , using the sponge method on corners and high wear areas speeds it up when combined with brushwork but still takes a night or two per vehicle .
Weathering / grime / rust and pin washes are a lot quicker now I've gone back to oil paint washes on gloss varnish instead of pure acrylics.
When I first started painting 25 odd years ago it was all oils and enamels and I find them much better for shading without endless layering like with acrylics.

Finished this LandRaider tonight , been ongoing for at least 18 months on and (mostly) off.

Fairly happy with it. Still very much learning the way with airbrush OSL. I cheated abit in places and used a brush !

I am in love with these guys. Everything about them. These guys alone makes me want to collect space marines and just copy exactly what you did. Their guns, gear, armor and headbands.

It's like taking the space marines out of their legendary sci-fi setting and making them much more real. It always bothered me that the standard marines were so devoid of gear! Where do they keep their ammo?

The guns alone add so much more flavor. I don't have anything against the classic bolter except that the current design is starting to feel old.

Keep up the great work!

I dig the camp design look. I regret going ultramarine blue when I started off because I wasn't aware of the technicalities of starting your own chapter and just adopting someone's chapter tactics. Which in a case like this you can easily say you're an ultramarine sub chapter one day and an imperial fist one the next. Camo looks great. Awesome job

These models were from the early 90's, I don't remember the name of the box set but I remember it was a 30 man SM army. I remember it was relatively cheap for the time and amount of models. $30. I remember a 3 pack of rhinos were also around that price back then.

Finally...some properly painted "Space Marines".... They actually look like SPACE MARINES. I can see something like that making it's way into my Guard force, as heavy infantry.

OH-I Wanna get out of here

You should get some guy from Australia to paint up a head for that. How'd you do the guy standing, the legs are molded into the seat?

Made in us
Longtime Dakkanaut

UK

Yeah , I should try that !

( I so wanted to say "guys from Australia do great head…." or something similar but that would be immature )

The crewman conversion is fairly simple, first cut off the moulded legs flush with the seat then cut / file away all the remaining butt and thighs till you're level with the original seat . Then fill in with putty to re-instate the seat.

The standing legs are made from a right leg and groin from the running Assault Marine sprue and left leg from the Marine kneeling legs.

This will allow the figure to lean forward with one leg up and back on the seat as if firing at passing targets !

Simples !

Hey there, Just found this thread and I have to say you have some fantastic painting skills. I'll be watching for me good stuff!
If you are interested in a background story for these guys, the GW book called "victories of the space marines" as a short story referring to a chapter called the "Warbringers", who wear camouflage almost identical to this.
It's a great read and I'd recommend it for some inspiration.
Keep up the good work man!

EDIT: forgot to mention that I love the older models and conversions. I can recognise quite a few from my own collection! I'd also like to see the whole army some day. Perhaps post a picture?
