Scoring units can become unpredictable once you factor in allies. Scoring Nobz Bikers? Min-Necron Warriors inside Night Scythes? Two squads of 30 Shoota Boyz? 2 squads of BA Assault Marines?

There's so many choices with Tau. It's a win-win for anyone who is either Battle Brother or Ally of Convenience in the ally matrix.

Did GW really put a random collection of Tyranid units, show it a paint scheme it won't come delivered as, and market it as something new?

It's a bundle of the same units used in the White Dwarf battle report.

A cursory glance of the item listing would tell you as much.

Ok im gonna come right out and say it. I do not like the XV8 Commander.

The exposed hands are dumb and there is something looks wrong with the corset waist. The jetpack also looks way to spaced out but that may be becuase the body itself is thinner and lets not even go into the whole finecast issue..
The reinforced ankles are nice though and i do like the gorget.

Also this...
a psychic ion blaster.
A rather amusing typo considering the Tau are the least Psychic race in 40k.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I don't understand why they had to put it in preorders... oh right... it's because they think we're all morons, hence why a third of the "preorders" are just bundles where you don't save any money.

Namely this

And also wow the horrible botchjob they did on the shoulderpads. Yikes. Even i could do better with white then the mook who painted these.

Maybe I'm leaping to conclusions a bit here, but the Razorshark Strike Fighter seems pretty useless to me.

compared to the bomber, it shifts the Ion weapons off the drones onto it's tail turret which can't fire forward properly, swaps a networked markerlight for a burst cannon, and then drops the bombing setup and the (Twin-Linked?) Missile pods.

I just fail to see how the Fighter is meant to secure the skies better than the Bomber whose Ion weapons have more practical traversal and are potentially accompanied by additional S7 shots from the missiles at the back, not to mention the ability to use a Markerlight hit to deny a Jink from a Flyer that is expected to Evade, and/or used to fire a seeker missile in addition to the rest of the firepower.

The Strike Fighter seems useful for hunting light ground vehicles and not much else.

edit: Having said all that, I like the flyers a lot more in full 360 than I thought I would, so I'm pretty high on the bomber at this point in time as you might suspect.

If I recall from the WD scans, you can replace the burst cannon with a Missile Pod. So basically 4 to 6 S7 shots along with whatever bonus they get from replacing the drones with extra verniers.

Wait, do people in your meta actually switch army lists depending on what opponent they're fighting?

That's not very sporting.

Actually Farsight is Vior'la, meaning his sept colour is red. Traditionally the sept colour is just a small bits here and there with the rest of the armour being a local camo.

I personally plan to paint my Farsight Enclave with red armor black fatigues and white and black highlights instead of the gray we see on the vehicles and battlesuits in the WD.

Yes. Yes they do. And those are the friendly matches I play against, like against my friends and brother. They know that my old codex only had about 3 or so good models (Crisis Suits, Broadsides (which ARE crisis suits) and my Tanks. They plan accordingly, all the time.
In non-friendly matches? They go full cheese.
Not many talk about it, but in my opinion, Tau's biggest problem with their 4e codex was their predictability. EVERYONE knew what you were bringing: Crisis Suits, Broadsides, Tanks. and probably very little troops or fast attack. Bring STR 8+ weapons for anti-suits and tanks, and a few pie plates for any troops he brings. And melee if you have it. Boom, tau-bane army.
I'm just afraid that we'll find ourselves in the same position again.

Hopefully I'm very wrong and paranoid.

Nope. Same price as all the other 6th ed codexes. At least in the UK

Yeah its the same price here in Aus too, they bumped them all to $79.99... can anyone remember the thing where apple got into trouble for regional pricing of music off its store? where america etc got charged less for MP3's than others because "the physical copies were more expensive in those places" and tried to use distribution costs etc as an excuse? because it looks like GW is going down the same road....

So...odd question. with the release of the Xv15 finecast set. does that mean that they will be a different unit then the XV25 stealth team?

Perhaps the XV15s will have stealth and be troops, while the XV25 will be elites with stealth, shroud and have better upgrade options?

But with them being in the elite section on the website, i guess thats pretty much means I'm completely nuts. Or just a sad hopefully panda.

Maybe? It's be cool, but probably not.

The XV15s have always existed next to theXV25s... I honestly don't know why they still sell both models if they have the same ruleset. Not that I'm complaining, the SV15s are way cooler IMO, so if they keep them, I'm all for it.

Yea, I have 6 XV15s and 3 XV25s, I only use the Xv25s when I need a fusiongun. Whichs never. I don't really like the XV25s look. If they had made XV15s troops, I would have played with them far mroe then I ever did before. And now they compete with the Riptide as well.....

That would be very interesting. I have always wondered why they kept the XV15s around. Maybe they finally have a use for them? If I'm not mistaken they have been finecast since GW switch the first Tau units over.

There's so many choices with Tau. It's a win-win for anyone who is either Battle Brother or Ally of Convenience in the ally matrix.

Are you saying that you are ok with GW giving us, what appears to be, half of an update at a full update price... simply because the allies rules allow them to be half-assed and lazy? What about 7th ed when GW swings the other way and shuts the allies matrix down? What of our Tau then?

This has been one of my biggest concerns about 6th ed and it looks to be coming to pass. GW releasing "half 'dexes" in order to force more allying..

As to the models:
Do I see an easy A-10 conversion here?

Oh, no I do not see an easy conversion. Seriously, the wings and fuselage are one piece? Shakes head, "Well, at least it will be easy for the little kiddies to assemble".

Oh my, This is a busy fellow. Looks like it was designed by someone suffering from ADOS & CDO who was trying to merge every mech aesthetic ever into one model..

This guy is OK except for the ill-fitting shoulder pad, stupid high collar and that the model is not worth $5 - $10 more than a FW model.

These guys look good and am pleased with the number of options.

Farsight looks ok but if I am going to have to work with resin, again I'll go with FW.

Man, the only thing I like less than Fine Cast is the stupid high collar. Guess they are trying to get steam punk fans but the high collar/pilot cupola looks to retro for the Tau aesthetic.

Proportions are wrong,...maybe it is the WWE championship belt that it looks like he is wearing that throws off the symmetry. Meh, still too easy to convert so will save my money.

Again, easy to convert so, "Why spend the money?"

Love the Rapper/Techno DJ pose on this guy, but not enough to buy him. Think that combining old Tank commander with a new pathfinder might work

I think that these might end up being the best thing to come out of this update

4 plastic kits of which only 2 can be used to make a total of 3 new units
5 Finecast single models(None of seem to be new units in and of themselves...maybe FireBlade could count as a new unit)

So, Maybe 1 new choice for our normally lack-luster HQ's(Fire Blade)
1 new Elite (XV104)....what, now have a total of 3 elite choices??
No new troops.....so still stuck at 2
Over crowded Fast Attack get a what looks to be a *meh* Flier
Heavy supports swap good anti-heavy Tank for ok Anti-Flier........ and gain a *Meh* Bomber.
No new transports and the existing one gets survivability and movement nerfs.

Thing Tau fans wanted that looks like we won't get are:
option to build drone army drone
option to build a viable foot list with zero battlesuits
additional transport
real weapon options for transports
in codex Alien Auxilla build

I'm trying to be positive but unless the weapons get major buffs in range and strength we are in for another rough 8 years. As things stand, the news doesn't look promising unless you want to run 6 fliers. Really am hoping that we don't get stuck limited codex of 1-2 builds.

I want this book to come out soon, the more I try to think what GW might have done to try and balance this book, all come back to is some set of special allies rules that lets us take more troop allies then most armies are allowed to take. So at <2k pts we'll have something like 6 of our own troops and like another 4 allied troop options. Something that make us buy new Tau units and units from other codecies.

Thats the only thing that makes sense seeing that they gave us only 3 new HQs (With one redone HQ), 1 new elite, no troops, 2 new fast(mando fliers), and no new heavies (1 redone heavy and a heavy SC).

Had one last minute thought, did they leak the rules for Dark Strider? He may be the saving grace of the book if he makes pathfinders troops, effectively giving us our version of IG veterans for our Fire Warriors.(Hopefully BS4 as well)
