No problem, it's all working now by the way.

Pretty good WD this month actually, they seem to go into much more detail in the painting articles.

Most importantly though, the description from the battle report seems to suggest that a lot of the core Tau mechanics are still in place. Markerlights boosting BS and stripping cover saves, etc. Plus they keep emphasising that the Tau are enthusiastic, inclusive and a stark contrast to the gothic Imperium, so no major change in fluff direction either. Yay!

After reading the battle report, it seems disruption pods went from granting cover saves to giving an invul save. awesome!

Edit: oops, never mind, misread that paragraph. But it seems the counter fire system lets you over watch at bs2.

No not awesome. Even if they just kept it as giving stealth instead of shrouded it would've boosted the 5+ jink save (a risky save) to a full 4+. Personally I always felt that tau vehicles were a bit squishy for their prices so the 3+ if they moved was warranted especially since the shrouded was only outside of 12"

If disruption pods really got this heavy of a nerf my tetras will probably be pulled from use along with my hammer head so long as I can find a AV 14 killer substitute.

It looks damning, but maybe the mention of a "6" rolled for the save was just referring to the dice roll and not the required throw. I don't expect d pods to remain the auto- take option they are right now but I think they should at least grant stealth.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

£30 for the codex is a bit of a facer though to be expected.

The Pathfinder team is actually good value at £20 for 12 infantry and three special drones. I shall probably pick up one of them.

The Riptide looks a pretty good model even at the price of £50. I will think about it.

The Broadside is too rich for my blood at £30, considering you will probably need to buy three or four of them for one to two HS slots.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

So somebody noticed that in the pictures of one of the new Pathfinder Ion Rifles, there's a chunk of metal or crystal sitting in a hinged open hopper on the back of the gun.

Perhaps the ion rifles are an attempt to refine the use of Vespid energy crystals as weapons.

That would explain the overload rules. The crystals would be in a raw state, and exceeding safety limits would have a chance of shattering the crystal.

I'm sorely, sorely tempted to get those pathfinders just to paint them up, and that feeling grows as I look them over.

Im with you on the broadsides KK
Spending upwards of £120 on 2 units before knowing what they can do?
Ill pass on that

I ordered pretty minimal for once.

codex - normal one.
2 fire warrior box's - unless paths become troops, im going to need these anyway.
Farsight - simply for the mini, because its the 1st one in a while im impressed with.
Commander suit - not too good, but its needed i guess.
1 box of crisis suits - going to need them.
1 riptide - great mini, may be useful, may not.
2 path finder box's - amazing models and markers are allways good.

Left heavy support out for now until i know what is what.
Longknife hammerhead, skyrays and broadsides tend to get expensive quickly, more so when your selling them for a better option lol.

Also, i think the broadsides being dropped to S8 is nice, because it opens up more choices.
Now i dont mind taking a piranha or 2 with fusions for tank hunting, because S8 against AV 14 isnt alot of use, more so on a slow moving model.

Well, I will get the codex. But from my FLGS. And I am not buying any new models. In fact I am going to sell most of my tau and just keep enough to have some ally options for their 'battle brother' space marines. LOL

In a van down by the river

This release at least has some models that I'm not looking at going "what the feth?" and I might buy something beyond just the codex.

I'm not sold on the flyer, but I do like the Riptide and Pathfinder team. The new Broadsides look cool, but as others have said they might be too rich for my blood since they're not a "new" unit and I have some of the classic ankle-breakers.

Something that really caught my attention during the BatRep was that Stealth Teams can take a homing beacon so Crisis suits do not scatter within 6" (I assume 6").

This pleases me greatly, especially with us being able to make our Jetpack move still in the assault phase. We could potentially do some nice strikes with this tactic. Another string to our bow so to speak.

The reflector shield thing seems a bit pointless - d6 S4 hits? Hmm...I guess it is a last ditch attempt at stopping the inevitable but hey ho.

The Ion weapons sound very interesting - The Interceptor Drones overloading for S8 Blast (not sure on AP) has some potential. Although did anyone notice that he said the Riptides Ion Cannon only became S8 when Overloaded? Hmm...I thought at least a 9. Maybe it has an awesome AP value. Either way good for toasting stuff.

Pre-ordered: Codex, Riptide and Longstrike. Depending on funds next week I will pre-order a flyer and maybe Darkstride and Pathfinders - SO happy they don't have to take Devilfish anymore. YES!!!

See this is smart.

You wanna know WHY GW gets away with their price hike during a horrid economy, where there are many who can not afford to get these things but still do.

It is ALL because everyone who buys from them confirms that no matter WHAT they sell, as long as they make it "look" interesting it will be bought.

So every time someone buys GW's product you are just confirming their business model while they laugh at all the money they are making.

Uhhh... reading that "review" of the WD 400...
Longstrike apparently increases the range of the tanks Railgun?

... Why do I get a bad feeling about this... like they nerfed it's range and it may only get it's old range back with the special character?

*gulp*

Well, even if it is 48in or so, that is good.
Or they just decided to make the Rail gun even more OP

No, the way it talks in the WD is that Longstrike just uses the normal 72" range of the hammerhead to shoot across the board. There is no indication that he extended the range.

48 inch range can hit nearly anywhere on the table anyway, considering deployment and normal movement.

I.... disagree.
I can deal with Pathfinders losing a point of armor, heck that makes sense in both fluff and crunch. I also support the disruption pod's nerf. And I'm even 100% supportive of Broadsides getting a Heavy Rail Rifle with 8S instead of a 10S Railgun.

But you do not screw with the Rail Gun. That's the Tau's signature.
It used to be that their S10 AP1 72" range gun was the best in the game, that was what they had better than anyone else. Well, in recent codices, other teams have gotten their hands on S10 guns, so Tau's specialty has been feeling a bit less exclusive. But at least it retained it's godly range compared to others. But if we lose the range, what's so special about it?

I'll conceed that a 60" range is still damn good, I'd take 60" without too much of a fuss, but 48" on what used to be our trademark weapon? That... that almost makes me want to quit Tau... and I can't even beleive I'm saying that. But, if that did occur, we don't have anything really spectacular. And our weapon requires us to get close, which would make no sense for Tau...

I know, your speculation on 48" was just a number you pulled, I'm not taking it as Word of God. But 48" is absolutely unacceptable. I'm kind of shocked that anyone would consider that "still good".

I don't think that the Nova reactor was ever actually used in the BR. He talks about overcharging the gun but never says he's using the nova reactor, so the S should have just been 8.

So, according to the new White Dwarf, Pathfinders now only have a 5+ armor save...
BOOOO!!!

My exciting plans to use 2 units of them are circling the drain... They better have shrouded or stealth or cost WAY less.

They've got special weapons options, markerlights, (probably defensive grenades), unique drone options and no longer require a Devilfish., they may be one or two points less, but I highly doubt they'll be "WAY" less.
