Ok, so last month my goals were:

I'd like to:

1: Completely finish my new DakkaJet! (WIP Link in my Sig)
2: Put all of my ork models into trays in my new Battle Foam box.
3: (at least) Base Paint all of my Ork infantry.

And if I somehow manage to get that done...

4: Finish and base my DeffKoptas
5: Detail paint and seal the Orks. (bit of a strech at this point)

What I actually got was:
1: Still a WIP.
2: COMPLETED
3: COMPLETED
4: In Progress
5: In Progress

Not bad, overall, I think. I got sidetracked by completing Old Zog, a Big Mek w/ SAG and 3 Bikers that I'd come into possession of midway through the month. So this month my goals are:

1. Complete the DakkaJet
2. Continue working on the Boyz
3. Finish and Base the DeffKoptas (again... LOL)
4. Assemble and completely paint/base 3 more Bikers.

Magnetizing is super easy; my advice is to go slowly and be patient. If you pay attention, you won't make any mistakes - but if you do (like getting the polarity backwards!) it can be difficult to fix.

I was worried about the riptides, turns out they're easier than XV8s... so much more space to slap those magnets on. particularly for weapons.

But generally it is this:

Wok ony my Highlander Guard,
Get my first veteran squad painted.

and that really is all I got for April After the middle of may I can go full steam.

Week One Update: The Wood Elves are all done (well, the Spellweaver doesn't have a mount, but he is painted)

You can see all of the Wood Elves in their final form at the #AprilVows tag.

OK so late as well. Here goes...

    1. assemble eldar battle force - 80%
    2. assemble seer council - 100%
    3. assemble black guardians - 10%
    4. assemble warp spiders - 100%
    5. paint eldar battle force - 0%
    6. Paint Black Guardians - 0%
    7. paint warp spiders - 70%

Had primer and basecoat on the first squad of Guardians and DA's but hated the coverage due to archaic Shadow Grey Spray paint... Off to the SuperClean spa with them.
Hoping to have at least primer on everything for a skirmish weekend on the 20th.

Because Deathwatch Marines are taken from various Chapters to serve the Inquisition. We play the FFG RPG, so I made a squad, all which look a little different with different weapons and invariably my players are going to want to use Figure X but have him be a Space Wolf, or a Dark Angel. Thus, they can use the figure that best represents their equipment with the shoulderpad from the Chapter of their choice.

My idea was to imbed the magnet into the shoulder (done) and then mix iron filings (from a local sandbox via big magnet) into some paint and paint the underside of the shoulderpad with it. I hope it works.

ah, interesting. might I suggest just gluing a bit of very thin ferrous metal to the inside of the shoulder pad? you can find thin sheet metal in hobby, craft and some hardware stores. it's so thin that shaping it to the right curve should be easy.

still, if you go with the iron filings I'd be very curious to hear how it works out

I've used the commercial version of what you're talking about, and it will take more layers than it's worth to get the same hold you would get from foil or another magnet.

I have some Bare Metal Foil, which if ferrous should do just what you said. I'm just worried whatever I use will get ripped right off. Those rare-earth magnets are pretty powerful. The Shoulderpads just aren't thick enough to drill out a space for another magnet, you know? And I got really small magnets.

Thanks for the tip. Seemed silly to me to pay for it when I can grab a magnet and find a sandbox and make my own. I think the foil idea is what I'll try first.

this is what I use when I need a bit of thin metal: http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/k+s/k+s254.htm. the description says solid tin, but don't let that fool you. magnets stick to it just fine. it's thick enough to be a little springy and to hold whatever shape you bend it into, but thin enough to cut with kitchen shears (I wouldn't use scissors you're fond of, though).

    1) I am doing extra this month! Decided to paint my DA from DV. Got 8 guys from the squad done with one color. 2 guys left and then on to the next 2 base colors. One of the 8 is done with all 3 colors. Got a weird scheme of 2 dark blues and the purple base. Calling them the Angels of Darkness. Hopefully will find some more time this week (or tomorrow) to finish them up!

    2) I moved them today, if that counts.

Good, because if you don't get it done each month, Jervis Johnson shows up at your place with GW whippy sticks and goes all Inquisition on you.

It looks like folks are making some good progress this month!

This week I am going to start working on the drawings for the kit-bash/scratch-build Luminark. I'll update with some pics of the starting materials soon.

    Keep up the good work!

UPDATE: Gaah! I just opened up the little ziploc bags my bitz came in, I'd ordered the Luminark sides and chassis from an online bitz service a while back... turns out the bags with the sides in, while correctly labeled with the appropriate parts numbers, both contained LEFT SIDES. Sigh. I'll start laying things out anyway, but I really wanted to use the wagon sides because of all the detail...
