You could not pledge, and send them a note explaining a reason you are not pledging is you feel they should do their communicating for the project on the KS pages provided for it.

Mmm, whats the policy on reposting from blogs, id assume it would have to be from the blog author?

Really nice bit of background tho, plus some cool info on the comments that the Glorlons grow their buildings like their weapons.

I'm not that upset about it!

I suspect that the vast majority of communications about this Kickstarter will in fact be sent out though 'official' KS Updates.

Just for you Alphy

Spoiler:

This is a guest post by Salvador Uranga from Sentinel Games.

When I had to deal with the creation of the first alien race for our new wargame Total Extinction, I wanted them to be very different from the numerous adaptations we've seen a million times before.

My aim was to create the new species from a scientific point of view. This means, I tried to understand what a real alien could conceivably look like.

To start, I did not want our aliens to be humanoid, with two arms, two legs, five fingers, etc... I believe it is not very likely that evolution on another world, on the opposite side of the galaxy, would create humans once again (whether they are green, blue or purple).

Despite this, I did have to turn to something that we know, life on Earth, but I tried doing so with a different point of view: Which species could have evolved into intelligent beings that would travel through space, wiping out all possible resistance?

As I wanted to avoid the "<em>little green men</em>" made famous by B movies, I had to avoid aliens made in the image of primates. Overall, I thought it was even better to avoid mammals entirely.

The things that were  left would be sufficiently different from humans and there are few species of animals, apart from mammals, with conceivably enough intelligence.

Of those, there is one that I like the most (I’m not the first and won’t be the last): Cephalopods. Octopi, cuttlefish, squid. They are wonderfully strangest creatures. Besides that, they do have great brains and some species are able to solve logical problems.

So cephalopods it would be.

It is not enough to think just about how these alien will look. It is equally important to not forget about their technology.

If we created our civilization on the basis of stone and metal, perhaps these beings could follow another way: the one of flesh. Our technology today is already starting to imagine the potentials of biotechnology.

These creatures could have adapted their bodies and those of other species for their own purposes. This way, they could have made living vehicles, biotechnological weapons, etc...

Thus we now have the appearance of our nice aliens and of their technology.

Still, there is one rather thorny issue remaining: The name.

Taking into account that we deal with creatures that were born in seas and evolved in water, it seemed logical that the name should evoke it. And here my wife and my 9-month-old daughter helped me a lot: if these creatures make the sound ‘gluglu’, why not the Glorlon?

This is how the Glorlon were born! These cruel enemies of humans, wishing to bring death and destruction to anybody who resists.

Hells yea! Backed.... this game looks more awesome than I thought.

The game reminds me of a mix of 40k, starship troopers, and starcraft. Gotta love anything that reminds me of starcraft. Maybe they'll make a Jim Raynor-ish armored character!

Update #6

Colonial AA vehicle

Many of you asked for more vehicles. Well, here comes the anti aircraft vehicle of the Union of Colonies: the ZSU Ekran.

Armed with four 23mm cannons and two antiaircraft missile launchers the ZSU Ekran is the nightmare of the enemy air units.

Since these all seem to be on a common chassis, any chance you'll sell just turrets so that folks can just swap out turrets to field different vehicles for different games?

The Commissar deal is a tempting offer. I'm hesitant to drop my EB Capt ATM tho.

I wanted to ask that too, but I'm pretty sure there's at least some kind of helicopter for one of the human races that has been shown (sketches though).
I suspect the crystal aliens might have some too. I can't think of any other shown though

Hi,
In a few minutes I will post an update with the glorlon air unit concept.

There's concept art on their website for the Glorlon flyer, too. It looks sort of like the organic gunships from Half-Life 2.

I'm loving the tank designs, btw. I've really been wanting some good sci-fi tanks, but all I seem to be able to find are GW's bolted together trash-bins with tracks. Since we're getting tank variants though, are there aircraft variants planned as well? Mainly, will there be a troop transport aircraft?

Glorlon Lurcher
Comment
2 likes

The Union of Colonies did not develop the ZSU Ekran for fun. It was a response to a terrible enemy: the Glorlon Lurcher.

The weapons of the Glorlon Lurcher comprise a Heavy Chemical Cannon to fight other air units and several acid bomb launchers, enough to evaporate any defense.

The Glorlon Lurcher will be available as an add-on if we reach the Stretch goals.

Second on the look of the turret. Maybe if you made the cannons separate from the turret you could have a recessed box so it looks more like a ZSU-23-4 mount.
