On the other hand ,and thank you so much for the link Waspinator, all of the ZOD stuff on the same page is in scale for regular Battletech. A company of mechs for 9 bucks plus shipping- I'm feeling a Russian themed mercenary unit coming on!

The kit you first linked to is a pirated copy of a BT design, scaled up and adapted to the Tehnolog (who I assume is the producer) preferred ball-and-socket assembly system.

The link above is the die cast line produced by JoyRide for WizKids when they were also doing the mechwarrior clix game. As fair as I know the DIY kits like the above are exactly the same parts (possibly different paint?) as the ones that were sold like action figures fully assembled.

I think they're some of the best BT toys/models ever made. I have Legionnaire, Forestry Mech and Mad Cat and they look great. They aren't all 28mm exactly, but will work fine if you're ok with not being exact to fluff.

These are BT'ish size but possibly a bit on the large size compared to BT, around 45mm tall. Here's someone who bought them and made some comparison pics.

The mechs appear to be original in design. Unfortunately, the infantry in the line are pirated recasts of Ground Zero Games infantry.

If you want cheap BT mechs, the 'Steel Warrior" figures by EM4 are your best bet.
5 Mechs for 2.5GBP means they're cheap enough to be worth ordering even for folks in the USA and with separate arms there is lots of opportunities for mixing and matching.

The smaller Reaper CAV's are great also, some of which were originally sculpted as ""Not"-Battletech miniatures. Not as cheap as em4, but still about half the cost of comparable BT models.

For what it's worth I've ordered from Soul Dark on eBay and their site with no trouble.

I got their BFG ships and they were fine casts, I can't be sure if they're recast or faithful recreations though

Aren't the BFG ships they sell the ones that were briefly advertised by GW but never made it to retail? wouldn't that make them more likely to be recreations ?

All those ships were sold by GW but some only for a short time as the models came heavily deformed and with a lot of miscasts (they said it were damaged molds and it would cost too much to do them again)

Oh I see. The first time I looked at the site, I only saw the cruisers. Now I see some forgeworld recasts and one of the metal escorts.

They look like they are much better quality than the one ship I bought from GrimDarkBits. They look more like forgeworld ships.

Ahhh darn. I guess the search for alternative Crisis Suits goes on then.

Special Artizan Service Miniature's new 1/50th scale GMV Flyer looks just the part for a sci-fi vehicle. Its not as small as the 1/56th scale vehicles many use for 28mm wargaming, so may be suitable for Warhammer scale figures, as some sort of human vehicle. I'm thinking possible Imperial Guard, or rather in more of a civilian role - painted up in Adeptus Arbite colours, or in games of Necromunda. It is a real vehicle, about to see use by American SOCOM units, but looks sci-fi in that District 9 kind of way personally.



Their vehicles range may be worth a look, as it includes similarly weird looking stuff like the Russian Internal Security Forces' Zil Punisher for instance.



I've started a thread for the site in the News and Rumours section of Dakka in case anyone's interested in them, as they release their miniatures at a fair rate (especially for a modern miniatures company, and a small one at that). And well, while I'm here, will also be covering their new releases with more in depth review over on my blog (once the post-man arrives!).

As Kid_Kyoto pointed out in that other thread, SASM also do a range of WWII vehicles in 1/50th which may be suitable for 40K too.

1/50th is one of those scales which is too large for 28mm gaming using proportionate human figures, but the market demands that's what's used for 28mm modern gaming (as opposed to 1/56th WWII gaming). So we have a load of companies producing 1/50th scale vehicles for that purpose (Butlers Printed Models, Blitzkrieg Models, Empress Miniatures, Spectre Miniatures, etc).

Whilst 1/50th vehicles are too large for 28mm miniatures, they may be more suitable for 40K. 40K models are a tad taller than 28mm moderns, though definitely much wider, which the hatches and doorways of 1/50th vehicles may be more suitable for. Its probably why many Bolt Action players want 1/50th scale vehicles for playing their WWII games with - those models too are "Heroic Scale", so look small compared to the access points on the vehicles (though whilst they have the width of 1/48th scale models, they don't have the height, so wind up looking like Dwarves).

I'd probably say that between the 1/35th and 1/50th kits, stick with the 1/50th ones for 40K. They'll look weird compared to the actual Games Workshop models, as those go overboard on the size of access points and guns, but fit in well if you're wanting to go for a slightly more realistic looking miniature. Personally if I were ever to pick up the game again (and didn't scratch build the vehicles) I'd use stuff like the Primaris Space Marines, paired with 28mm Perry Miniatures and 1/50th scale vehicles (with Aquilas painted on the side) for an Imperial force.

1/35th works better for conversions and Orky vehicles I think. Though the artillery tractor in question is weird enough that with a bit of work it could still not look too out of place even in that larger scale (who's to say an Ogryn isn't driving it on some Agri World). I'd probably tear off the cab and replace it with a boxier one which was better scaled to the drivers (which yeah, is difficult given how out of scale Games Workshop's models usually) are, but it wouldn't as out of place as other vehicles.

If a "Metal Puzzle" is what I think it is, that tank comes as a flat sheet of die-cut metal that you have to clip out, bend, and assemble, kinda like this. That seems like an awful lot of work for a gaming model.
