So, what do we think of the latest episode?

I, like most of the internet it seems, find

Spoiler:
the rape scene

silly. Pretty much overwhelms the whole "redempting" stuff on Jaime.

Very true

Still, it's an... odd decision by the show's writers.

It was an odd departure from the source material, that's for sure.

Do they have to? If they can maneuver the Lannisters that are left off of the throne (and only Joffrey's purported Baratheon pedigree kept him on it) and sweep in as the saviors of Westeros, they may not need to tie their claim to Joffrey's reign. A virgin queen, unspoiled by association with Joffrey's casual cruelty and excesses would seem a far better tool for making an empire than one with all of that baggage.

The Tyrells are some of the most dangerous intriguers because they don't make a strong impression, and thus are neither very suspicious, nor conspicuously innocent.

Yeah, the departure from the source material is odd but I think it makes sense for the direction they're taking Jaime and Cersei. It's simplifies a lot of subtext that read in the novels into reasons you can see on screen. Similar to how they handled Shae.

If they had stuck to the source material, they probably still could have done it the proper way, but it seems that with them leaving out a number of items, they had to resort to this.

Yeah, I think that's pretty much what happened. I think to do it the way in the book would have eaten way to much screen time. This way the reason for what's happening is obvious to everyone. Kinda like Shae.

Gleeson Played Joffery well. I didnt want to see him dead, I wanted to see him humiliated, shown his place and destroyed, rotting in a dungeon. I wanted Cersei dead.

I feel sorry for Jack Gleeson though, some people seem to hate him for his role.

I actually thought poisoning was a good death for him. Joffrey always thought he was invulnerable from being surrounded by power. Yet all this this power could do nothing save him from a few drops of poison.

All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't make Joffrey's heart start again.

Overall, I think most of the changes can be filed under keeping the character count down and the storyline as tight as possible. Daenerys sending out Daario instead of the eunuch in the book is another example.

Although that ties into my next point, which is that some of the various "romances" have clearly been changed to 'love up' the story. Robb's is the obvious example. Jon and Ygritte's parting is also different...IIRC he just flees the fight with the wildings and thinks but isn't sure that it's Ygritte who shot him. I don't remember Cersei confronting Brienne about loving Jamie either.

But overall I think they do a good job keeping the right spirit (like the confrontation at Meereen), and some of the changes are for the better.

.

It was a great death, how he looked like a boy staring at his mother, asking for her help. It was acted greatly. Still, I would have preferred my version. To me and im not sure how many others, humiliation and dethroning would be great.

They basically bumped all the "kids" 3-5 years in age from the books. Rickon is supposed to be 3 and he's at least 6, Arya is supposed to be 8 or 10 I think when this starts and instead she's at least 11 maybe 12, And so on and so forth. It works better from several perspectives for the show.

I don't think he looks older than Joffrey to be honest. Joffrey had adult features though he was on the smaller side. Tommen looks more like a large pre-teen/early teen.

It's the Harry Potter Effect. They were probably the right age when they first cast all the parts, but it takes too long to film everything.

Nah, they were still cast as older than in the book. Robb is supposed to be around 15 in the first book (IIRC) and the actor was clearly older than that.

Yeah Richard Madden is about 25 from his appearance, Martin's novels are relatively historically accurate for the ages of the children involved but that would make for uncomfortable viewing for the majority of viewers. IIRC Sansa and Joffery are roughly the same age and who wants to see one 13 year old married off to a another socio-pathic one?
