Seeing as how there were no incorrect reversals of a turnover, that can't be the case.

Looks to me like he pulled up because he's asking to ride the pine this week Seriously, to me it looks like he either gave up/wasn't trying to block the defender any more, or got beat by the defender and so he gave up on the play.

Looked about as incorrect as the offside call (or lack of) to me.

Are you referring to the Wilson "fumble"?? IF so, IMO, DeMarcus Ware should have gotten a delay of game penalty for that crap.... Seriously, when an official is hitting you, and has told you several times to get up, you get up.... again, just my own opinion on that "non-call"

I thought that was borderline ridiculous as well, from both teams.

I was referring to the play where Julius Thomas caught the pass but had it knocked from his hands by Earl Thomas and recovered by (I think) OLB K.J Wright. It was ruled a turnover on the field but reversed after review, on the basis of Julius Thomas not having made a football movement after catching the ball, thus meaning it was just an incomplete pass. I don't know what else Julius Thomas could have done to constitute him making a football move other than scoring a touchdown.

Ahh, yeah... I actually agree that that was a good call. He was unable to make a "football move" due to the tackle beginning basically while he was in the air. Personally, I do think it's a bit ridiculous that a guy has to do "something" in order to show he had possession of the ball. IIRC, JT fumbled because he caught it, and was trying to switch hands while in contact, which IMO should constitute a "football move" and have been a fumble. But as the rules are now, it was a good non-turnover.

I agree, though I'm glad he wasn't hurt.

The ejection is a bit of overkill for sure... give Baker a personal foul if you want to prove a point.

The ejection was for the aftermath. He can be seen pulling J. Peters by the facemask. Takes 2 to fight, and they both got ejected.

I figured you were referencing the Thomas fumble. It wasn't even close. In no situation was he making a "football move". He hadn't even secured the ball.

The way the rules are written, that was absolutely the right call, and it's been called like that consistently since the rule was enacted. The typical football move in that Instance is either securing the ball or turning upfield, of which he did neither.

It's the same reason a runner has to secure a catch and compete the catch through hitting the ground for it to be a touchdown.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Though, to be fair, I think the endzone touchdown rules borderline hilariously inconsistent.

The burden to secure a touchdown catch is so ridiculously higher than a run it's absurd.

I think you should be required to have possession in the endzone In order for it to be a Score. Ensis, I imagine you'll agree with me here, but if rugby tri possession rules were in effect for football, I think it would be for the better.

Additionally, I think the NFL would eliminate a considerable # of injuries if they adopted rugby rules for tackling. Make them wrap. Get rid of these guys tucking their arms and turning themselves into human projectiles.

I just wanna throw my hat in the ring about the officiating.

If you can, watch the RAMS vs COWGIRLS game last weekend.

There were 119 yards worth of penalties against the RAMS and the COWGIRLS only had 15 yards. Opposing teams have been called only once for offensive holding against the Rams all season.

I'm not a big conspiracy nutter ( ), but damn this looks like the league wants the RAMS to move to LA. o.O

EDIT: Here's an example of a NON-holding call...

Ohh, you mean where a "touchdown" means you actually have to TOUCH the ball DOWN in the endzone!? hell yeah... It does get a bit convoluted though, because in rugby the rule is generally a downward pressure on the ball by the hand/arm of the offensive player (or grounded to the padding of the goal posts, but the NFL doesn't have that issue any more), so you occasionally see the TMO make some confusing calls on replay in the event of an "iffy" try.

Also, while I know Pete Carroll and Seattle have instituted more of a rugby style to their tackling, and I think it really does show, aside from the SD game. But yes, I DEFINITELY think that if NFL players were, by rule, forced to wrap their arms around the ball carrier, it would bring some more safety into the game for everyone.

ESPN suspended Bill Simmons for three weeks for going off on Roger Goddell in Simmons' podcast, among other things repeatedly calling him a liar. (And who doesn't actually believe Goddell has been lying his ass off?) Their reason was that he violated "journalistic standards".

This is the same network that employs Skip Bayless, and up until recently, Stephan A Smith.

And the kicker - three weeks is more than Ray Rice's initial suspension!

There are a whole host of issues with ESPN's employees... I've an ex-GF who worked there, and was one of the "key elements" in that baseball analyst cheating scandal a few years back... There's all kinds of crap out there about Kirk Herbstreit (or however his name is spelled) having herpes and deliberately "passing it on" to women, though I obviously have no way of backing that one up.

The same network that, from everything I can tell, pays absolute Gak money for EVERYONE, unless of course their name is Chris Berman or Tom Jackson or the like (as in, the "top" one or two hosts for their marquee shows like NFL Sunday, NBA whatever it is, or their NCAA College Football Gameday on Saturdays.

Lol what did Simmons think was gonna happen after that tirade.

Also does anyone know if Derek Carr wears eye liner? This is a totally serious question. Watching him playing the patriots this past weekend I could swear he was wearing eye liner and I wasn't the only one.

Grantland is typically the place where better journalists that work for ESPN have had a little more freedom in what they say.

That line is apparently drawn at Goddell and the NFL.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised Jalen Rose hasn't been suspended before, too. I love him, he's fantastic but he's said some socially unpopular things before like Stephen A.

That's all these Thursday games are. One team seems prepared and the other like they just rolled out of bed. Thursday night games suck and I'm done watching them unless it involves the patriots or thanksgiving.

I much prefer college games on Thursday nights. There was a decent one last night, in fact. Much better than the NFL game, of which I think I was engaged with for about 10 minutes. Which was 5 minutes longer, apparently, than Washington.
