Time for an unpopular opinion. But hey, this is dakka I'm sure you will all be understanding and supportive (har har har)...

But I absolutely hate Deadpool, and this trailer thing depresses me. It's all of the same blunt-force-trauma-what's-subtlety bad humor that makes me just weary of the world in general. I will grant that it is well shot and the action is good, but the thought of an hour or more listening to his "LOOK AT MY REFERENCES AND LAUGH YOU SHEEP" jokes fills me with utter dread.

<bunkers up>

Eh, to each their own.

The thing with deadpool I have the most fun with is the conflicting voices in his head and fourth wall breaking.

Also, Medium of Death, this was essentialy a proof of concept trailer they made to show the FOX big hats what they had in mind.

I get that, but at the same time, the fourth wall breaking and humor are not done with the slightest hint of control. For me, it is humor that gets old real quickly because it becomes routine for all of these references (not parodies, references) to come spewing out of him.

that's only when he's done badly, in my opinion. With his current series, for example, there's definitely the aspect of him making references adding to the humour, but they're not overdone, and a lot of the humour is derived from weird situations that he finds himself in. I would ask though, have you actually read it? Because the way you've worded it does make me think that you've only been exposed to the character through the internet

I've read some of it, but I also admit that the well has been poisoned, so to speak, by overexposure to the internet's representation of him.

Who has Bob??? This would make the movie only slightly less awesome to not have him in there.... To be fair, if it's based on how Hydra has now appeared in the Cap movies, then that should be fairly easy to contract in, and Fox would probably go with Bob's traditional green/yellow uniform for Hydra.

Honestly, I'm not sure. There'd be an argument to say that Bob is a Deadpool character, and so the rights to him go with Deadpool, but then there's an opposing argument that he's an Agent of Hydra, and considering that Marvel isn't allowed to use the M word to describe Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver I doubt they'd allow Fox to use one of their properties in a film.

Ah, yeah. The internet does go rather over the top with regards to Deadpool.
If you want to try looking at a different take on the character, I would definitely recommend picking up the 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' arc from the current series; it's one of my favourite arcs from any series ever, and is incredibly well done (and tones down the silliness for a very serious plotline). To be honest, I would recommend any arc from the current series (written by Daniel Way), as it tends to not go completely over the top with regards to references, as well as relying on the supporting cast a lot, to great effect.

I'll echo this, the latest series has been really well done and considering the character extremely serious.

Oh, good Christ riding a pogo stick. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This needs to happen. THAT is the Deadpool we need. AND the one we deserve. Please, Fox, let Reynolds and Liefield do their thing. Give them the money, let them call the shots, and make the best damn Marvel movie yet!

Its really not but thats personal taste. A good quip, nowt wrong with that, but subtlety is also a virtue.

I cant stand either of them, amd is one of those cases where I cant even see why anyone would like either, but hey if you enjoy it I shall not judge.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Reynolds is perfect for Deadpool. It's like Patrick Stewart as Professor X-level of perfect casting. Hell the bit with him at the start of Origins: Wolverine was probably the only good bit in that film.

Still don't really care about the film though. Only so much "LOL! Ran-dumb!" I can take.

It's not for you. That's fine. But that doesn't mean you get to make general statements about completely subjective things. I've been reading deadpool for ages and if you think it's purely LOLRANDUM then you clearly have no idea about the character. Yes, it is a big part of the characters, that's the entire point of making a fourth wall breaking character, but it's not all he is.

That all said, you don't like Ryan Reynolds either so you are clearly a lunatic.

I guess I will never quite understand the need some folks have to express a negative opinion on thread/subject that they dislike when said thread/subject is full of positive supporters.

You will never get those 60 seconds of your life back while you typed out your expression of negativity to a group of people that really don't care if you don't like Deadpool.

I guess I am different...if I don't like the subject of a thread, I don't post in the thread.

You're correct in that there is more to the character in the comics. However, in this movie context do you feel like they are going to show that? Given the trailer, I'm going to put my money on 'no'.

To me, Deadpool is like...frosting. Yeah a little on your cake is nice, but you don't settle in for a bowl of nothing but frosting.

We have seen all of 5 minutes....we really have no idea beyond that how they are going to approach the charactwr and what the story will be about/like.

This is one reason I don't speculate and pre-judge movies, etc. :-)

They need the story to be about something or it wont work. Deadpool storys don't actually end up good unless at the end of it Deadpool wins and then ends up still loosing.

(Saves everyone but looses his peace of mind in the doing)(Finally gets to die, realizes he wants to live)(Helps the X-Men in a way they never could help themselves, exiled from the x-men "forever")

I have never read a really good Deadpool story that didn't do that in some capacity.

Also, Deadpool actually works WAY better as a PG13. I have read Deadpool Max comics and they all basically degrade into curse words and boob jokes because they can. Deadpool as a PG13 means they have to go for a higher level of humor while keeping all the jokes as juvenile as possible. It's an amazing mix. I REALLY hope they keep it PG13 for that reason. Or, if it goes R it only goes R because in a couple places they cross the line.

Think pg13 Punisher vs are Punisher. PG was so much better.

That being said, it looks amazing and I will for sure watch it. I just expect them to screw it up.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I think part of tje rwason for the R rating is gratuitous use of violence

Yeah, I don't imagine the R rating on this will be for cursing so much as the decapitationing, goring, mauling etc.

And yeah to Curran, we haven't seen ANY footage the movie, AT ALL. The couple minutes we got wasn't from the movie. It's far to early to making those kind of calls on content, especialy when we know for a fact the people involved are absolutely in love with the comics.

Also, Deadpool comics are the only comics I buy, at all. So screw your frosting remark, Deadpool is my cake.

Yeah this I hope is the story. I have read deadpool from when it first came out in comics and the best stories are him winning but still losing. It will be interesting to see how they make the story.

I just can't wait to see the film made it has been many years that they have been talking about it. Lets get this thing made already and then make a sequel.

Depends on the type of frosting. Generic stuff no, but I can fully sit and just eat a thing of good cream cheese frosting.
