I'm playing my first game ever vs an imperial armor book fighting force soon. Specifically the new imperial armor 13 traitor guard. Could someone explain to me what this army exactly is and how it differs from normal guardsmen.
Also could someone show me maybe an example list or two for them on a small scale say 900pts. I'd like to get an idea of what I'm up against before I do so. It would just suck to come totally unprepared

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts

The most unique thing they have is each unit roles d6+4 for its leadership the first time they require a leadership roll.
Other minor silliness.

They don't have Orders, useful Psykers, Vendettas or Ministorum Priests.
They have access to Spawn, Plague Zombies, cheaper bodies, can choose to pay for BS3 stay BS2 and be cheaper.

Dirt cheap Spawn, 3 for 55 points.

DO WHAAAA? That's crazy. How is spawn spam not a thing already? I'm guessing you can't mark them which kinda sucks, but at that price they can be used purely as throw away units to force you're opponent to waste shots on them or face the repercussions.

Can't mark them or increase the size of squad. 3 for 55 points, that's it. Covenant of Tzeentch unlocks option to take them.

Theyre troops, but only unlockable by very specific warlord optins (tzeench or mutant heretic leader), and then you can only take up to 3 units of them (or only 1 for the mutant), AND theyre not compulsory troops.
So no one's talking about spamming them because they are literally impossible to spam.

Not entirely true. If your renegades are allies to a CSM force, you can field a ton of Spawn. The fact that the renegade ones are cheaper means you are getting the same troops at a lower price, but these ones have objective secured. Your opponent will likely not remember the difference until it's too late.

You can't take any Renegade spawn as allies as both options to unlock them in Renegades require your Arch-Demagogue to be your warlord.

The renegades army list has quite a lot of potential for variation, but some would argue it is best run as a horde. It's artillery potential could be quote devastating also.. With emplacements protected by sheer numbers taking up space on the board.

It's actually has a few viable builds from what I've seen, both horde/elite/inbetween/tankfest.
Though I'd have to see elite in action, that's one I haven't seen yet.

The randomized Ld sounds maddening. How does it play in practice? Is the extra labor (rolling random Ld and recording it per unit) worth the extra fun (which is....)?

There needs to be a thread about it because there's some great things in that book that help Chaos Space Marines above and beyond what it should.
Arvus Lighters look crappy then you realize their 60 points for missile version that can deep strike, so like a inferior Drop Pod.
The Valkyries are cheaper and can be loaded up with Chaos Space Marine or Chosen.
Wyverns are 55 points
Fire Raptor or whatever is a insane gunship.
Sicaran Battletanks.
It's just " Codex Chaos revised to be a bit better".
Oh and the whole take 2 50 man squads of zombies with FNP 4+ for 300 points or so I think,

Except it has no marines except noise marines with a very specific build?
Anyway, the random LD is not as bad as you expect, you only need to make the roll the first time the LD check is called for, and many of the units in the codex are "instant wipeout when targeted" or "grand horde" type, with very little low-count high-resilience units who are expected to even make multiple LD checks during a game.
