Subject: Breaking News: Furry convention disrupted by gas leak (Intentional gas leak)
Regardless of the fact that its furrys, it was still a domestic terrorist attack at a fething con. The same hotel that ACEN is held at.
Imagine this was at Adepticon? or Gen Con?
'Lol just some gamers, they were probably sexist pigs.' 'so the world lost a few virgins.'
Exactly. This entire thread consists of grown adults that spend hundreds of dollars on wargames advocating the death of people for being "weird".
The attack was terrible, and the people that are commenting that the attacker didn't do enough should be ashamed of themselves.
Comparing model building and game playing to a sexual fetish that involves dressing up as a cartoon anthropomorphic animal. Top quality post.
Advocating death? No.
Not really that bothered? Yes.
Furry is not inherently a sexual fetish, it's more just a roleplay thing. Some people take it to that level sure, but it's by no means the default. I mean otherwise there is an aweful lot of Warhammer porn out there and people with nude and sexually explicit models in their collection that it would be pretty easy for outsiders to tag that whole thing as a sexual fetish too.

My guess is the person wanted a body count, but didn't know how to properly disperse it in enough quantity to do that.
Oh absolutely. Don't wanna downplay how dangerous chlorine is, but dispersing it that way, and the choice of using chlorine instead of many other ways to off people to me seems that this was not a particularly thought out or highly detailed plan.
Not well thought out anyway. But the choice of chlorine does suggest a goal of killing people without getting caught.
Probably just looked up that chlorine is deadly and didn't do research into how much would be needed.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios
I'd hope so. This definitely qualifies as a terrorist attack.

The friend of mine who was there recently posted about his experience on another board, I'll post it here, but edit out names for the sake of privacy;
Morning guys. Who would've thought that the first furry con I went to would be one that made national news? :v That'll be a memorable event.
I was actually very close to where it happened to. Room 976 was a two level deluxe suit and a guy named (name) was holding a room party there. I had an in to the party via fellow Cincinnatian (name) who was kind enough to let me crash it. It was what you'd expect from an artist's party. People at the big table drawing stuff with alcohol being passed around. I went upstairs to the 10th floor and hung out with (name), his wife (name), and (name)' girlfriend where we talked, they drew stuff, and we all laughed at youtube videos.
Getting close to 1 AM I was getting really tired. I'd been running on low sleep for many days, but was having a good time and didnt want to leave. (Name) was getting ready to get a game of Munchkin going when one of us commented on the smell of bleach. We at first thought someone was cleaning but the bathroom was right there and there wasn't anyone in it. (Name) went out to see what the issue was and thats when we'd heard that someone had spilled Chlorine. "Oh. Okay. Thats kind of a stupid prank." Someone down stairs opened the sliding door. A few minutes later (Name) shouted that we all needed to be getting out, that con security was telling for an evacuation. I get up and leave through the 10th floor exit. The smell there wasn't too bad, but as I rounded a corner to get to a walkway to the elevator inhaled by far the STRONGEST concentrate chlorine I'd ever smelled. Bleach is a routine part of my home cleaning process and that was nothing compared to what was smelled up there. I reeled and immediately exhaled, putting my coat lining up to shield my nose and went toward the elevator. A con security man up on the 10th floor was trying to direct us all to the elevators but some people over on the walkway were shouting out contrary instructions. I spent what felt like a long time confused and unsure what to do until the security guy did me the courtesy of yelling at the people on the walkway to shut up. That done I went to the elevator. With a bunch of people evacuating and this being an emergency the elevators weren't in a rush to come up and get us. After waiting for a few minutes I went down the opposite walkway and took a stairwell down to ground floor.
Down there things seemed almost normal. People walking around in their fursuits and of course a small group of people doing their best to play tunes on the hotel's grand piano. I took a seat near the piano, noticing what I felt was a minor chest discomfort. I dont know where any of the other party goers went as we were separated on the 10th floor. By the time I got there emergency crews were already on the scene and five minutes later the order was given to evacuate the entire building. I wasn't staying at the Hyatt so I walked back to my hotel at the Crowne Plaza. Getting outside and into the night air felt like it helped my chest a little but when I got back I took a bath. I didn't bother talking to EMTs as my symptoms felt minor and if they got worse I could always take advantage of the care opportunity. They didn't. By the next morning the chest pains were gone and all I'm dealing with now are some issues with congestion that I had before the con. So I guess I got pretty lucky, and I feel for the people who weren't so fortunate. (Name) I believe ran down the stairwell where the spill took place. She got it much worse but didn't have to be hospitalized immediately. As far as I know everyone else in the party made it out with no issues.

It's just one of those things that I just can't comprehend the appeal, like male MLP fans.
It actually repulses me.
First against the wall...
Actually, I feel more weirded out by grown men who like MLP than furries. Does this count as cleaning out the gene pool? Or is it more pest control related?
Why? I am not interested in MLP, but I am really found of another children show (or is it for children?) called Kaeloo. For my defense Kaeloo has more chainsaw and bazooka that your average Warhammer 40k army .

Yes. I am sorry, is one supposed to be somehow worst than the other? By which strange moral compass?
Of all place, this is certainly one in which scorn for furries is certainly the most hypocritical.

I get that, which is why I tried to calm myself down a bit. I'm not even a furry, it just annoys me that something like this happens and almost everyone's first instinct is to start making pest control jokes.
The only people in the thread who weren't making jokes about it in some way seemed to be people that knew attendees, and so had a human face to connect with, whereas everyone else seemed to dehumanise them to "oh, they're just furries", so it was something to laugh about.

Because there were "several thousand people" in attendance, and they're both fairly nerdy hobbies.

That is because I had not yet posted .

I didn't know any attendees. Though I do know people who know attendees!
People always like to have groups they can point at and go "They're weird, lets mock them".

I wouldn't read too much into it. They were fairly minor pest control jokes. You clearly haven't yet seen Dakka really lay into a group.
Besides, its possible to both mock the Furries and realize how horrible of thing this was.

The strange part is no matter how much they have been in the receiving end, some people will gladly take the giving end whenever possible. All while maintaining a culture of victimization, for some of them. As gamers, they have it so bad. The hypocrisy is overwhelming.

It's cool man, it's rare for someone on the internet to apologise for anything, so thanks for that

Hopefully the people suspected of carrying it out are abducted from their homes and spend the next 10 years in a prison camp, periodically being tortured. You know, regardless of whether they were actually guilty of doing anything
People are bringing things from other threads in here for "points" or "busting chops".
It can be fun, or tedious.

in all seriousness, its attempted mass murder, and quite likely a hate crime, not sure if it qualifies as terrorist,
but
Hopefully they find the sicko who did it.

If you can't understand the difference between the sexualisation of the furry pass time and that of wargaming then I don't know what to say. Parading your bizarre sexual deviance as a hobby is something that a lot of people just find odd and disgusting.

We post on a thread about miniature war figures in a specific subthread that talks about real things happening and so on from the comfort of our cushy chairs. Furries spend much of their time on the internet. In short we have no life

No, not really. This place isn't strange at all.
Spoiler:
What gets strange is whenever bronies start complaining about furries or vice versa. I love it whenever that happens
