It appears so.
The way things get updated in gw hq, it feels like plating forge world hh is the cheapest army to play in the long run. at least your not replacing book every 6 months.

"refer to the warhammer 40,000 rulebook" in a codex has become an insult around me.

Yes you are. It's a $35 Imperial Knights Codex, being replaced a little more than one year later.
To be honest though, if it has Dataslates for the Forge World Imperial Knights, and maybe some new variants, I wouldn't be too butthurt dropping another $35 so I wouldn't have to keep printouts hanging out of my codex.

I'm just not on-board with GW's new treatment of books. The 7th edition rulebook dropped two years after 6th, and people said that wasn't a trend and not to worry. Eldar just got updated after two years and people said "well, they need to fix the OP issues with the serpent" and THAT damn sure was wrong, and still they said that this wasn't the new trend of book replacement for hardbacks; the point of hardbacks was apparently supposed to be for stabilizing the rules cycle a bit. But with the Imperial Knights and everything else upcoming, it seems GW realizes how much revenue they can reap from people happy to replace their hardbacks on a yearly to bi-yearly release cycle, even given that the new books will largely be copy/pastes of their previous iterations (as the Eldar book is mentioned to be). It seems this is GW's new MO- rules will be replaced every couple of years...not because they need improvement, but mainly to keep them new and fresh, or just slightly different.
GW seems to be trying to maximize their revenue they produce for every release, but it's coming at the expense of generating low value content that is necessary to utilize the models themselves. And it's just causing me to lose all remaining desire to keep up and return to the game.

Gw are more and more puzzling of late. They have interesting ideas but Implementation seems to fail them.
If they fail to do a HQ this time it's quite stupid.
They seem to have this nostalgia fix but sometimes it feels halfhearted.
But I'm quite happy building my Skitarii at the moment. Automatically Appended Next Post: Kid_Kyoto wrote: Accolade wrote:Wait, am I to understand that the $50 Imperial Knights codex is looking to be replaced little more than one year later? Please tell me I am misinterpreting that.

If replacing codices after 2 years becomes a thing I simply won't buy them and I already limit purchases to the armies I actually collect.
Replacing Knights just over a year later would take the cake, though, it really would and I'd feel a bit sympathy for those people who were duped into getting it in the first place (but only a bit, buying a two unit codex sent GW the message that that sort of lacklustre effort is accptable).

Well, the Imperial Knight codex was two pages long in the first place, with two more pages to detail a 5 point weapon upgrade then a bunch of filler. I'm surprised anyone bought it in the first place.

In a nutshell, I don't. I feel sorry for those whose normal codex books are prematurely replaced but Knights (as well as other superheavies and gargantuans and huge fortifications) had no business being put into "normal" 40k. The models should have been released just like the baneblade and at most been a single LOW slot per army (not per detachment or even worse an army of nothing but them) or better yet just put into the next apoc expansion as a datasheet for those types of games. GW has lost their way and focused purely on greed at the expense of the community instead of profiting with the community. I hope it gets significantly worse with practically everything released in 6th edition and beyond prematurely replaced so that the hold outs in the community with their heads in the sand finally realize that none of the changes forcibly cramming apoc into every 1000pt game were done to benefit them or the game itself experience. GW listens to sales and while the community overall has spoken with year over year decreased unit sales, the message isn't loud enough yet. Automatically Appended Next Post: Accolade wrote:

Some folks will just believe everything Jervis says in White Dwarf (unbound.. we did it for YOU!) regardless of the actual reasons and effects in front of them. I hope GW continues this trend and their sales reflect the response.

I'm citing Ravenous D's mentions about the Eldar codex. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/645617.page
Go read that and try to control the urge to be snippy.
EDIT: In fact, here's the quote from the front page of the thread:
Ravenous D wrote:Pretty much all the rumours are true, some things were neglected from mention like swooping hawks moving 18" now and mind shock pods being -2Ld to all enemy units within 12"
A lot of the book is copy pasted.
But away ask away if you already haven't seen it.
As example, the wind riders didn't change much beyond getting scatter lasers for all units. It might be a big change to the unit overall, but it is literally a five-word change to the unit description. That's a pretty common theme with the codexes these days- they essentially stay the same minus 100 or so words (and a few new short stories).

It could be a new book with different Knight Houses but it's one of those things that makes me just loose more faith in GWs Upper Echelons.
Fine it's a new box.
But if it contains the previous and just 2 New unit entries. It is rather a slap in the face.

I bought the last codex because I got it for $20 and didn't like carrying around print outs. It was definitely a light weight codex.
But if they add 2 new units, Gervantis(The White Dwarf IK Character), or the Forge World Imperial Knights, that would be more than double the actual rules content, making them more useful as a faction.

Except that most units are not going to change much in the stats/points department, however every unit has unique rules and a unique exarch power that is completely different. they have different special rules etc.
It does not take much for a unit to function completely differently. whats next tactical marines being copy and paste because they have the same rules as before?

So then why are you arguing that the book isn't largely copy and paste? They are all that way, especially now since these books have begun to cycle faster and there are less new units being incorporated. Obviously the units won't change much, but since the goal doesn't appear to be refinement, then it's really copy/paste + minor changes to shake things up.
I don't understand why it's hard to accept that there is little change between the books. And given that it is not done for refinement purposes, the amount of work going into the minor changes is less significant. I think my point still stands quite well, and is solid reason why I am involving myself less and less in 40k.

If the assassins get new rules in the White Dwarf update, that'd still be the main record breaker though compared to the knights, wouldn't it?

I agree most books are largely copy and paste. That is how they have always been barring complete re-writes.
I guess usually when I say something I dont see the point in stating the obvious or the status quo. So saying copy and paste implies it is more so than the expected. Which I would argue is not the case.
But they are correct, no point arguing it here.
Looking forward to seeing if it is a new kit or will just be a an additional plastic sprue for the imperial knight(which I hope is the case)

As they're both heavy weapons variants yes?

We have much less fluff now I was kinda mad about how much they had cut out of the Lizardmen book.
I much preferred the black n white with a few colour pages version for fluff reasons.
The Skitarii book isn't bad but I did sort of expect more fluff for my pound. There's some nice stuff there artwise.
Honestly I'm glad of any non marine fluff that isn't a complete retcon.
If they produced fluff books again I'd probably just buy those.
