@MT: that's cool, reminds me of an animated short movie I saw as little while back. (the robot road accident, not the brothel part ... just want to make that clear )
Do androids dream of electric whores?
where did you get those 3 robot figures from btw?
How are the rest of you doing?
EDIT: I notice some people have the banner wrong ( there is someone on the forum using my genswick banner as well the terrain comp one ... )
so to repeat it here you go:

wow. guess you don't even want free advertising...
i don't know if it's because i stalk dakka at work nowadays, but i've noticed a lot of people in this contest have had their P&M blogs featured on the front page of dakka (the big spread in the middle, or in the upper left, under project blogs). Cam, GrimDork, and MagosBiff90 have all been on there in the last two days...
Oooh me? Cool. I have the 'subscribed threads' page bookmarked for quicker reading, and never really see the front page. Neat. The league is like a dakka based secret society (sans secret), of course they have connections

That upper left Project Log on the front page shows the last three updated blogs, can't recall what the criteria for the main section is - seem to remember there being a selection of criteria that put stuff in there.
Those 'bots are from Bombshell Minis - part of a kickstarter from last year or so. I got a few in case I wanted to use them as a squad for something. Went diggging for them thinking I might pinch one for a bystander, then realised that (a) they were perfect for this scene, and (b) this meant I would actually use some and not just have them kicking around for ever
Not a great deal to report, but tacked some plasticard together to see how I think the warehouse might look....
The section under the fan will probably get a pipe or two either coming out the wall or running further down the alley. Still debating potential roof styles so won't set anything in stone just yet, as that may affect the look. Also considering some girder work between the two buildings, help give a dark, crowded feel to the alley.
in case anyone could use some plasticard, i have a ton of these:
Spoiler:
11" x 14" ( approx 28 x 35.5 cm), approx .030 thick signs. this is what i'm making the Leman Russ out of. would probably have to cut them in half to avoid ridiculously high shipping prices. if you're interested, PM me--not looking to make money on this, just to help Dakkanauts--just pay for shipping.
back to work on the tank!
Spoiler:
treads are taking shape...

I've been anxiously awaiting a competition!
I'm in on this for sure! I just so happened to have a terrain piece in mind, and just got a new hole punch specifically for rivets!!
Count me in.
Building looks like a building, MT. I'd say go all Bladerunner on it, but see how far you can get in the time.
If you lived just slightly closer, Gawdam', I'd bite your arm off for free plastic. Not that I need any more stuff (although not quite at the stage of potentially being buried alive ).
Good work on the tank. Progressing nicely.
and...
I have started gluing things together!
Can't show yet, as I don't know where it's going at the moment and things might change, but soon...ish.

Here's the base for what I'm going to submit. It's an imperial landing pad, but I'd like to smash an Ork flyer into the side of it....where's my hammer....
Hmm no progress on my part though I'm thinking that I would like to make the piece a 1x1' square to give the eventual possibility of using it as a quarter of a future deadzone board. We'll see though.

Ach, me bleeding heart...gotbugs...looks so cool already to be ruined soon... ...
Thanks Vik. As much as I love the landing pad (undamaged), I've got stacks of these styrofoam pieces from work so there's lots to play with!
My friends and I were all very excited about the possible pieces we could make out of these things, so this contest really came at the perfect time.
Who me?
I don't know about THAT Gawdam. But for the record I have mailed my lunch money directly to the League, as to keep our relationship in good standing.
@Gotbugs--i'm not actually quitting...not saying i'm better than anyone, but i would like to think that everyone has a fair shot at winning. and those who bribe the judges should have a *MORE* fair shot...
@GrimDork--i would love to see you get something done for this contest...although it would probably interfere with the 365 painted models in 365 days...i think if i ever try something like that, i'll do it on a leap year...
@OneManNoodles--obviously as a judge you cannot compete, but are you also doing a project for this contest?
Ehh it'll probably happen. There's still 9 weeks right? When I get around to it I'll probably do the majority of the work in one week focus-fire style instead of spacing it out. If I set something down for too long, I tend to get distracted and forget about it. This should be no more taxing than my jungle terrain piece and the same size... so I'm thinking I have plenty of time.
Just gotta wait for inspiration and drive to hit.

So, this is my final sketch before I start modeling.
My first attempt is going to be with clay. Why clay? Because I have it on-hand!
I'm glad we have a couple of months left to get these things done because I expect this first attempt to be a disaster.
I'm not a sculptor. I can barely make a ball out of green stuff.
I think I might be able to get the pillar/column things made from the clay.
I'm kind of excited about this piece now. There have been a few times when setting up for a game, we've wanted and Orc/Goblin idol terrain piece. This would fit the bill even in it's "gone wrong" state. Probably even more so because of it!
Anyone have ideas for simple goblin symbols that I can have carved into the pillars? The simpler, the better. Thanks!
Common Goblin Tribes lists a few that could be interesting as standing stones - one for each of the easiest to draw / favourites? :-)
Broken Axe Tribe, Flying Goblins Tribe, One Eyed Tribe, Horned Skull Tribe,...
edit: still think, for a disaster, you only need to have one standing stone being tipped over and it'll all be dominoes :-)

Remember that Greenskins tend to have mostly very simple geometric shapes repeated in patterns- triangles and squares and roughly carved bones- as the bulk of their decoration. With the Idols themselves being the 'big' symbols, you should be able to get away with super simple things like a row of triangles at the bottom, or a line of wavy dags or a basic 'sun' motif. Things like crescent moons also work well.
GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.
If yer an Ork, why dont ya WAAAGH!!

this is a good point. you could also use the ork alphabet which is in the codex--PM me if you need a picture of it. it's pretty simple.
EyeamRai: Just a suggestion on the scene. As this is meant to show an accident, what are you planning on starting the dominoes? A grot pushing one over is not much of an accident, but as you are talking carvings I thought that maybe one could be stood with a chisel in hand as the stone falls away from him?
Right, as I said earlier, I have started gluing things together.
This is where I am at the moment. It's not a lot, and the rough surfaces, small gaps, etc. will be solved with Milliput in the future.
To start with a need to build the UFO (or should that now be UCO as it's crashed and not flying?) so that I can build the terrain around it, as it has no defined dimensions.
I didn't want to build a typical flying saucer (as I want to make a flying one for my army at some point, so don't want to have a crashed one as well), and I don't want it to look recognisable as a craft that would fit any known species.
So I have spent a lot of time going though all the stuff that I have collected together and tried to find something that sparked some inspiration.
I found a few things, some were put back. There was a moment where I was going to have an old 8cm computer fan (that was already broken) as the centre of the craft, but that said too much "atmospheric craft" for me. I wanted it to be interplanetary and have no obvious means of propulsion.
Then I found the tops off of the Britta water filters I've opened up for the "rivets" and "gravel" inside. One of these had a broken edge and I thought I could use that for some of the crash damage.
I needed to turn this into an enclosed vehicle, and being made of "not-polystyrene" this would mean that I couldn't just glue it to some plasticard and get a solid shape (it's quite soft and bendy). So I turned to my favourite material (sprue) to build a frame to hold the plasticard sheets in place while I figure out a way to attach the two halves.
What I turned to, to give a solid shape, was the large quantity of dental plaster I have laying about. Glued together with superglue and filled in with plaster and I had the start of a shape.
As I moved on to add more pieces (a piece from inside an underarm deodorant stick, and some pieces from the outside of a printer cartridge), I continued to fill in the gaps with plaster.
If you can't tell what this is going to become yet, join the club, as I don't know either.
It will get longer, probably 50-100% longer.
And I have plans for some bits that will (or did) stick out the side.
beyond that, I have no idea...
