Yeah. The baddies have been one step ahead since episode one, and the RWBY girls and their friends have only ever gotten in the way mostly by happenstance. When you go back through RWBY's fighting record, the only fights they've managed to win were as a team (and almost always against Roman, easily the weakest of their enemies). Their duels tend to go badly for them, and a lot of the time they're saved by someone else's intervention. Season 2 spent an entire episode covering their motivations for becoming Huntresses, and what came out of that was a bunch of lovable idealists in what was patently a crap sack world (and that never ends well). Plus all three opens were foreshadowing pretty hard that a peaceful happy go lucky action series this was not.

None of these girls were really ready for when gak hit the fan, and gak just hit the fan in a pretty brutal way.

I'd applaud Monty Oum for his great skill at foreshadowing, but well, a bit late for that. EDIT: Eh what the hell. Doing it anyway;

Devastated as I am at the events, I'm still impressed by how much RT had managed to make me care about the characters in RWBY. If I didn't care so much, I wouldn't be as sad, so I can't even argue that it's bad writing.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Haven't gotten that far in RWBY, but from what I'm hearing so far,
Spoiler:
Kind of expecting a Madoka-esque sort of story to follow. It wouldn't feel too out of place with the type of tone changes the show appears to be doing, and doing a progressively darker version of the, "plucky teenager monster slaying school," thing is not exactly common.
That, or I'm looking at this a bit off the mark and am completely wrong. Still, got a few guesses as to the next casualty.

Op 3 wasn't very good (though definitely the most foreboding). I'm actually surprised there's fan backlash about the step up in dark edginess. It was pretty apparent all the way back in season one that some of these things were going to happen.

Spoiler:
Well, to be fair, it was pretty brutal.
Like, damn that escalated quickly. Its worse than that time a bunch of grimm came up underground in the middle of that city in season 2.
But yeah, the entire series was building up to bad things happening

Anyway, has it been mentioned yet that D Grey Man is slated for a 2016 release? Because its slated for a 2016 release.
I'm super hyped. I love that show.

So there's this anime about a Japanese girl living in 19th century France called Croisee in a Foreign Labyrinth, and it's adorable and if you liked Kinmoza or any other show in that vein you might like this one.

Hey, I'm looking for a good mech anime with mechs more or less along the lines of Battletech. That is, less flying super laser gundam light show. More slower moving heavy duty weaponry and firefights.

Cheers,

I'm going to still suggest Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team. It takes place on earth for 90% of the show (it starts in space). Since the suits are stuck in Earth's atmosphere, they tend to not be able to do all the flying space lazer fights and it takes place in a jungle, so more firefights.

The problem with mech shows is that they're almost always just backdrops for the story that the creator actually wishes to tell. However I'm going to suggest a few shows that you might be interested in that aren't Gundam shows.
Patlabor (cop drama with mechs)
Big-O (it's a big mech, slow fights, but again not really about the mechs)
Armored Trooper Votoms (this one I haven't seen, but it comes as a suggestion from Cyporiean).

Thanks for those suggestions. I'll check them out now that I've finished all the Supernatural on Netflix

I'm well aware of the battletech show. Why is it all the coolest stuff never gets anything good aside from video games! No good 40k shows or films and no good Battletech shows or films!

My biggest complaint about Gundam style stuff is that it always seems like the machines power levels are associated with the level of determination.
Something like Villain: Hahaha! You're so weak! I'll punch your girlfriend! Hahahah! Hero: NO! NOT MY GIRLFRIEND! YAAAAAAAA!! *Kills villain despite the fact that he 's been getting pounded on for the last hour and the villain is still fresh*

In like a battletech thing it doesn't matter if you're determined to do anything. If you're in a hunchback and other guy is in a Atlas. You gon die son!

Gundam anime has the same problem as a lot of shows and movies. When pushed to a certain limit the main character suddenly gets a huge power boost out of nowhere. Meaning that the guy he was getting stomped by before now can only just barely defend himself before getting defeated by the charcater he was just beating up on earlier.

No plot spoilers but more sort of character spoilers for those only who haven't seen this amazing program
Spoiler:
One of the things I love most about are just how absurdly powerful the sins are. I'm sick of underdog comes to up to beat overcat. Just like my min rant above. It's refreshing to see characters that can defeat almost anyone in a straight up fight with such ease. The only time something bad typically happens to them, it's them holding back too much, or getting tricked somehow.

Anyways, love that show. 2nd favorite anime after FMA:B. Seen the whole thing twice and can't wait for season 2
(FYI I watched the dubs. They're well done and IMHO improved on the original Japanese audio same as Fullmetal)

inb4 "Gundam isn't like that, you must have been watching G Gundam, wahh wahh our giant humanoid robots are technologically accurate!"

That does seem to be an issue with a lot of Mecha anime, even the Real Robot varants- Part of it is the idea of the Underdog being the protagonist, and how lazy writers, instead of actually showing a gain in skill or a separate side of them that's actually going to allow them to win, make it so that the 'determined last stand' always works.

Spoiler:
Man i got mad at the ending. they basically got everything and lost nothing. also missing actual pride

imho.

i do like the idea of anime where the protagonists are op and the show is more about the interactions of everyone around them. you know they are not really going to fail like one piece or one punch man.

That and "I can drive a mobile worker." raised such a death flag that I was like "well feth, this can't go any other way..." It was a stupid bullgak death that had no meaning. But hey in a show about child soldiers I guess we have to expect bs deaths.

Out of curiosity, what are your feelings on Gate II?

I've been loathing it. Right now, I'm only watching because:

- I already watched the entire Season I, so, since I'm already so balls-deep, I want to see the end of it.

- The bunny-girl has access to probably one of the most 1337 Ninjas I have ever seen. I'm curious to see more of it.

Its better than the first season, now that we're actually in the other world this time, but its still pretty mediocre.

The last episode was a load of nothing.

I find it amusing though that they don't take the foreign diplomat into protective custody, when one of their soldiers already beat the gak out of that prince. I think they're already past the point of diplomatic niceties. If they are that worried of protecting them, the smart thing to do would be to to accuse that diplomatic and girl of being spies and arrest them.
If the cleaners have a problem with that, then they can say hello to Mr Bullet and his 1000 friends.

Eh, I really like it. It's really the only show I'm even watching anymore this season.

I dropped grimgar, divine gate and I'm saving erased for when it's done. Can't wait for spring season to begin cause this ones gak.

Next season has some more potential stuff though, winter season was light to begin with.

In no particular order for spring season:

New season of Magi (story of Sinbad)
Bungou Stray Dogs looks interesting
Koutetsujou no Kabaneri also could have potential
Joker Game looks like it's probably going to be my personal winner already.
Terra Formars second season (It's not great but I did enjoy that show)
New gundam Unicorn stuff

May have missed one or two shows.

I dropped Grimgar because it was beautiful but god was it boring to watch... :/

Dimension W is pretty sweet, and I'm glad Toonami got the dub.

Konosuba, Dagashi Kashi, Rakugo, and Snow White are the other shows I'm watching this season. Next season looks to have a couple shows that have my interest.

Next season of Magi is Sinbad focused? Is it just airing the OVAs then, or something else?

A TV anime adaptation of manga Magi: Sinbad no Bouken has officially been announced via its official website. The announcement was made after today's special airing of Magi. According to the announcement, the staff and cast from the OVA will be reprising their original roles for the TV series. It will broadcast in Spring 2016 and premiere on MBS' "Animeism" block.

So no, it's not the OVA's, they are doing the full story.

No.official start date other than April. KonaSuba seems to be one of the last to begin airing (besides Ajin) so that'll probably end around the last week in March. Give a week or so for other shows to wrap up, and I expect sometime before April 15th for Jojo

Ok, episode 21 of gate is already dumb in the first 4 minutes.

Spoiler:
1) Why are there no Japanese soldiers defending the Jade palace? You'd think they would respond by now.

2) What do you mean rescuing the vice minister will involve capturing the capital? No it won't. Just send in a helicopter or 2 and extract them. Mission completed. What are the natives going to do, throw spears at it?

3) I do like how they're finally letting other countries see the Special Region. I was wondering when that was going to happen. Seems illogical not too

Monster Misume is amazing. It's almost pure fanservice, but it's all tied together with a story that serves the fanservice- and there's enough actual emotional attachment to the characters, and straight up comedy, that it's not a JAHA like so many others of its kind- more like Tenchi Muyo than Infinite Stratos.
