Subject: Game of Thrones Season 5 - Hyped! [SPOILERS]
But if Shireen could get it from weeks/months old germs sitting on a doll, why the hell is it so hard to believe that Daenerys could get it by touching the grimy, sweaty hand of a guy who has an infection currently going on 6 inches higher up his arm?

Because the showrunners would be hated by everyone if they killed a targeraryn.
In the show they didn't talk about how Shireen got the greyscale. They just talked about how it was cured.

They did talk about how Shireen got the Greyscale. Namely, the doll.
It's highly infectous, Jorah has recently been infected himself, he is extremely sweaty and Greyscale can be transferred via pure touch, que how Jorah got infected and him yelling at Tyrion not to let them touch him. It might make for another plotline with them looking for a cure. It is curable after all. Would buy the series some time too.
I saw people arguing that, in the books, she had a line or two about how she'd never been sick before -- good genes etc etc
.. I think I have some vague recall of a similar conversation in a previous series ...?
Side affect of being fire proof perhaps !
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

In the books they do talk about how the Targaryan's seem to be more immune to afflictions than others.
Regardless, there's no reason to believe it transmits through anything less than direct contact. Of course Jorah told Tyrion not to let the stone men touch him: they're covered in it.

I figure it's mainly transmitted through the medium of plot !
Did ponder previously if the affliction on the poor wee lass was, perhaps, actually indicative of some connection between her and the dragons in some way...
... but that theory seems to have gone up in smoke so ... ah well.

Dany may be sterile, but that might not always be the case... after all, the curse that caused it was pretty specific about when she will bear a child again. If its not supposed to be a literal curse... some of those things have already happened.

Griff aka Aegeon is confirmed to be happening Which it might be as there are two cast members we have yet to meet who were in the cast listings.
I hope not - that was of the many totally stupid plot Fkups in the recent books

IMO, the handholding between Daenerys and Jorah and Daenerys and Missandei could have been shot to be less conspicuous. Daenerys might be immune thanks to her Valyrian heritage, but what if Missandei catches and spreads it?
Book spoiler ahead:
Spoiler:
It could then serve as an adaptation of the bloody flux plotline from the books.

Yeah, cause a pointless plotline that exists only to kill screentime is exactly what you need to add to a show that already has a bajillion plotlines and characters and a bunch of fans complaining about.how they didn't include x, y, and z from the books .

Tell that to Dorne and The Wall
How is the Wall a pointless plot line?
GTFO.
Most of season 5 was. Season 5 focused on beyond The Wall but little to nothing actually happened at the wall itself. Beyond The Wall and The Wall are two different locations and have a different purpose. At The Wall, we just got some filler stuff for the most part, barring The burning of Twix. Dorne was cringe-worthy writing and didn't accomplish anything until the last episode. Rest was filler.
Apart from that, we're looking at a good season whose main purpose was to get a lot of things going. It's a setup for season 6 where stuff is actually going to happen (exciiiiiited!) and we're highly excited for the last episode that will likely end the season with a bang. Stannis was outstanding this season. Apart from the ama-zing actor, the series managed to streamline his plot and keep it both interesting and still on point.
GoT edited after House of Sigvatr? Sure. Not many changes actually.
a) In the series, Sam isn't a character, he's a plot device. His main purpose is to let the audience know what Jon Snow thinks. He got a poorly written plotline slapped on him that is currently going nowhere. Sam could have been an interesting character, just give him a more leading role at The Wall, let him have more speeches, let him help out with some rad knowledge etc. Make him be important and a character on his own. Another solution would have been to completely cut him from the series and instead use the time to further flesh out...
b) ...the Sand Vipers. The casting was god-awful, hands down. Yet they could have been made into more interesting characters. Flesh out their backstory, make the more interesting and let them be more than "girl who shows tits, girl with long hair, young girl". Cut the stupid prison scene that takes away from their crediblity. They are actual skilled warriors. Their fighting skills as portrayed in the series and their main strength being shown as having nice tits makes them a joke. They are the main problem with everything taking place in...
c) ...Dorne. Doran Martell (Alexander Siddig) is an AMAZING actor. He is tied to a wheelchair and barely moves at all, but his mimic and body language is outstanding. Give him more screentime. Cue: last episode. He has zero physical power but still impressed everyone at the meeting and despite his, seemingly, weakness (mercy), he has a plan going for King's Landing. Very strong actor, very good writing. Sadly not enough. More time for him, cut other parts.
d) More action for Daenarys! Amazing actress. Spent most of the time sitting around looking concerned. Such a waste. Give her more lines, let her...do more things. Less clichée "hold my curtain in front of my boobs" scenes, more her actually making strong leadership choices.
e) Focus on Jaime more. He is a more interesting character in the books and undergoes a serious character development. Hard to show in a series, though.
f) Don't let the Unsullied look like a bunch of amateur fighters. Just doesn't make any sense. Example for last episode: have Daenarys be attacked in the colisseum, retreat in the tunnels beneath, get split and then go into the arena with a diminished number of Unsullied defending Tyrion, her and the rest. Have the remaining Unsullied be drowned in Harpies. In the actual series, each Unsullied gets to kill about 2 Harpies before getting killed himself. Let them kill more before getting overwhelmed. And, by all means, give them Short Swords. Spears the the WORST choice in this situation.
Other than that, it was a good season. As stated above, a lot of things went into motion, making us excited for what is yet to come. Actors are still OUTSTANDING. Melissandre? Stannis? Littlefinger? High Sparrow? DINKYYYYYYYYY? I could go on. Exceptional actors, most of them previously unknown and making a breath-taking debut. The writing was streamlined well for the most part. The series feels like a "Song of Ice and Fire light" (no negative connotation). It's highly enjoyable and if you want to get the full package, you can still go for the books. Super good series, currently ranking it #3 after House of Cards and Daredevil, just based off the last season, other than that, I'd rank it #2.
Actors, music, scenery, cutting (for the most part) and writing (mostly book parts, rest is "good") is excellent and brutal top-notch stuff surpassed by no other series. GoT is more epic than Lord of the Rings and Lord of the Rings has its writing downfalls too despite being very close to the books.

Sure, if you ignore:
1. The results of the assault and how they handled the prisoners.
2. Jon being elected Lord Commander.
3. Jon appointing Ser Alliser as Head Ranger
4. Jon being politicked at by Stannis, Davos, and Melisandre
5. The wildlings coming through the wall.
6. The numerous Olly looks towards Jon and the overall dissent stirring within the watch.
But you're right, nothing really happened.

Yes, you hate Sam. Clearly he's going to have a larger part to play with his entire family being cast for season 6. He's a good character, being portrayed by a solid actor, that you just don't like. That's cool.
b) ...the Sand Vipers. The casting was god-awful, hands down. Yet they could have been made into more interesting characters. Disagree about the casting. They're going to be fine. The Snakes aren't that interesting in the books, anyway. And none of it makes them a joke, especially since the purpose was to show that they're as adept in using their femininity as they are at using their martial prowess. With that being said, I do agree Dorne feels a bit slapdash, if only because I think we'll see more of it in Season 6. Again, we'll see more Doran in Season 6. There was a lot to resolve this season, and in the final episode we got a much bigger glimpse that Doran is no pawn.
d) More action for Daenarys! Amazing actress. Spent most of the time sitting around looking concerned. Such a waste. Give her more lines, let her...do more things. Less clichée "hold my curtain in front of my boobs" scenes, more her actually making strong leadership choices.
Amazing actress? Really? I like Emelia Clark, but she may be the weakest female lead in the entire series.
e) Focus on Jaime more. He is a more interesting character in the books and undergoes a serious character development. Hard to show in a series, though.[/quiote]
I agree here, but actually have enjoyed his interactions with Bronn.
f) Don't let the Unsullied look like a bunch of amateur fighters. Just doesn't make any sense. They're a standard battlefront army. That's been made pretty clear. They're not trained to police.

As stated above (and my me 4 pages back or so), Daenerys talks about how she remembers being cold and hungry, but never sick.
The thing is:
Spoiler:
Grayscale basically (whether by nature or man, GRRM stated he wouldn't confirm it) specificically to wipe out Valyrians. If Danny had it (or Tyrion if you follow the Mad King rape theory, but that's a bit silly to me), she'd almost definitely show signs. Either Jorah will be cured by a Red Priest/go to Asshai or he will die eventually. They could easily get a whole season out of him though.

Interesting, thanks for bringing it up. So only her BFF could be infected...which would bring up interesting plot ideas. Like Daenarys having to choose between turning to someone else who could be looked down upon by "her" people and she thus being forced to choose between being a good friend or a good ruler.
Please join in our prayers for the brat at The Wall not to do what was foreshowed so often and so openly before...please! D:

(Hopefully) Daenerys's story will become so packed with character development and actually getting things done that they won't need to fall back on the grey scale as a story arc.
Or worse...the Greyjoy stories.... *shivers
Also, if Doran Martell does some things:
Spoiler:
I'd like to see a certain other Dornish prince show up in Mereen, if only to become a crispy critter. It would also help push the "Dornish Master Plan" aspect of the show.

Agree. Daenarys really needs character development, and quickly before they run out of time and have to rush it. She hasn't developed a lot and still is a terrible and naive ruler...a girl, basically. Well, after all...she's 14 or 15 or sth. isn't she?

I think the show has done a great job of her development - she actually has a decent relationship with her lover, thousands of people love her, she has loyal friends - who else does that apply to in the show - maybe Magery but she is rotting in prison
They made her a bit older in the show - in the books IIRC she is the same age as Sansa.
The Show does have her as a much better and stronger ruler than in the books (shudder, they are sooo bad) - and no more ruthless than anyone else - I amusingy recall people saying Stanis was the nice honourable one who just wouldn't kill innocents

I was referring to her leadership. She is the worst ruler of all possible candidates. She is about as much as a ruler as Tommen is. She's an idealogist with no idea of how the real life works. That's why Tyrion is the perfect match for Daenarys - she sits on the Iron Throne and Tyrion rules the land. Perfect combo. At this point, she can only be a ruler if used as a socketpuppet. I fear that they take too much time getting her primed for leadership and thus end up rushing her development.
Tyrion all but beat her leadership style into her. Diplomatically saying "Your a Piss Poor Leader there Hero."
