At this point I think it's safe to say that the books and show are almost completely divergent except for the broadest of strokes. It's no longer an adaptation for television but a *show written for* television.

As a result, I expect we'll see more big moments, cliffhangers, and probably a very traditional fantasy-style happy ending, and doubt it will delve much into most of the deeper mysteries in the books.

Yeah, they lack the charisma they had in the books. I remember them being more likable in the novel, but in the show they come across as impetuous sociopaths.

I've got an idea for a spin off show - a Game of Thrones noir style Crime show. Jaime will be the good cop to Bronn's badcop, and the dynamic duo will hunt the serial killer Sand Snakes as they leave a trail of corpses across the seven kingdoms.

That last scene was pretty cool though. Is she always fireproof?I thought that first time was a one off.

I like how the big wildling guy started glaring after Jon read the letter. He was like "that donkey-cave is going to do what? I am so going to kick his ass"

Book Danny - yes, one time deal.

Show Danny - obviously not!

She was dropping hints that she was permanently heat proof all the way through season 1.

Also I see that Tormund has a crush on somebody.

Book Danny is interesting. Martin claims that it has always been a one time thing, but even in the books she was able to lift the eggs out of fire and never burn in super hot baths.

She did get minor blisters though. Maybe its an ability that she wasn't born with, but has somehow acquired after the ritual carried out by Mirri Maz Dur.

There's a difference between +5 to resist hot objects checks & immunity to all fire based damage, that's my major gripe

In the books they actually have an interesting goal (putting Myrcella on the throne, in show they're pissed because Elia dies (Ok so far) & Oberyn is "murdered" (You cannot complain about the outcome of a trail by combat where a combatant has volunteered themselves & they try to rectify this by...... killing off their relatives in cold blood with no remorse

So Show Danny is different than Book Danny?

I'm more than OK with that because, for the most part, Show GoT is better than Book GoT too!

yep the show is the better story and portrayal in most respects - exception Dorne.

Book Dany - younger, looks different (more like the original actress cast) - in the last few books GRM decides to make her weak, indecisive and extremely needy at the mercy of her advisors. Aparently because he wants a male Targaryian to be the main chacrter - or something.

Show Dany - older, looks different - at this point she is vastly much more in control of herself, her ambitions and is trying to make her own destiny. Her decisions are clearer and usually her own rather than being ofrced upon her. her relationship with the sell sword is much healthier - she makes mistakes but is not a doormat like heer book alter ego.

Book Dany is a 14 year old who until Mereen is constantly on the move between threats, as soon as she reaches Mereen & essentially sits down her age & lack of experience & a hostile city she feels she can't move on from really cripple which makes her look a lot weaker

Book Danny showed a constant immunity to heat, and survived a night sitting inside a funeral pyre. Martin says that it was a one-time piece of magic, despite her being resistant to the effects from fire throughout the book.
Show Danny showed a constant immunity to heat, and survived a night sitting inside a funeral pyre. Now she survived a second fire.

Good episode

Pity Bron has disapeared - but he is married and has a lady to help fall off her horse and break her neck...........

Sansa / Jon was good -
Yeah, he keeps looking at Brienne. Their interaction should be interesting.
we thought that was fun and well done

Dany was great - back to form - The end was truely fabulous - only been better with a Dragon. Hopefully GRM takes some notes on how to portray the character he created........... The Show is more consistant with her and her abilities/ nature than the books. I ma not sure how benevolaent a goddess she will be

Tyrion was interesting

Finally the Small Council have got the message!!

Hopefully our lovely Magery will be back to her old glory!

I wish I had your optimism. I see their plan being a massive clusterfeth all round with the Tyrells being the biggest losers. I think that somebody isn't going to make it out of prison alive and my money's on Loras Tyrell.

Unless this is part of an an ever-so-cunning plan by Olenna Tyrell to turn things against the Lannisters. I don't see how though.

Am I the only one thinking that Margery and Tommen might side with the High Sparrow?

I dunno.

I think the 'plan' is more the other way.

Cersei: "Hey look, the Tyrell's are attacking the Church, get them! The traitorous scum, kill them! For the Holy Seven!"

And thus Cersei becomes a hero and gains a 'loyal' army of religious fanatics, loyal to the 7... Just in time to get slaughtered by those loyal to Azor Azhai.

Can't see Margery doing it unless it gets her and her brother out - and then she will be in a similar mind to Cersei - how can I get revenge - she knows exactly what brainwashing game he is playing as she told her brother..

It will be interesting to see how the fanatics stand up to armed and armoured soliders - ie people who can fight back.............

Hmm no - Cersei is out for revenge - If Margery happens to bite the dust in the process so much the better for her - but she has one target for her revenge at present - the High Sparrow and his fanatics .....still lookng forward to

"I choose violence............"

Tommen is possible because he's essentially a thoughtless pawn.

Margaery... not a chance in hell.

Tommen certainly. But I think Margaery is clearly still defiant.. I think its more likely that something will go wrong and Margaery (and possibly Loras too) will be killed when the Tyrell forces storm the Sept. She'll be killed by her captors, or perhaps Cersei will engineer things to have her killed and pin it on the Sparrows. Margaery's death will turn Tommen against Cersei and push him to the High Sparrow, and he'll order Cersei's arrest and trial.

That scene in the season trailer when Cersei and Tommen are (or appear to be) striding towards each other escorted by guards in the Throne room implies that Tommen and Cersei will come into conflict with each other.

It's a certainty that it will go badly. The High Sparrow would love a confrontation, and undoubtedly has a plan. Look at the scene with Jaime in the sept. He was goading Jaime on.

It might be the match made in heaven for her. A wildling wouldn't have any problem with the concept of a woman warrior and would recognize her for what she is, and you probably have to be a wildling to handle her.
