Continuing along with the Eldar segment of our tour...
Spoiler:
My favorite Phoenix Lord and the runner-up. From the very start, Dark Reapers were my favorite Aspect, so it is no surprise that when the first codex came out I would be a big fan of Maugan Ra. I bet if they ever include him in an animated show he sounds just like James Earl Jones. Asurmen is just pretty cool. And sort of like the super-experienced version of my first Eldar mini. Both of these, and the rest of the PL, were painted pre-2000, because I touched them all up and entered the group into the Golden Demon at Games Day 2000. Maugan Ra later had his base rim painted brown for the last game of 40K I played around 6 years ago.
Several days of comments coming.
Some super neat Eldar weapons and armor.
I love the base on the Kingdom Death pinup, sword varnish not withstanding.
Punishers rock, Thanos rocks, Boob Elves rock.
Great work over many years. Things on your old models that you don't like or that show mistakes are just evidence of the growth and progress you've made.
Lovely Eldar pics youwashock! The custom Autarchs are really cool, with a neat backstory too. The 2 Phoenix Lords are great as well, Maugan Ra truly is the coolest of them all!
Goberts Gubbins - P&M Blog, started with Oldhammer, often Blackstone Fortress and Void Panther Marines, with side projects along the way
Lelith is one of those characters that always gets a good mini. I painted the first one a long time ago, right after she came out. The second version, I bought as soon as it was released and she sat primed for years. Eventually got her done. Bought the latest version after the individual release was announced and her price dropped into the acceptable range. Also took a pic of all three together.
Still deciding how I want her to look, as you can see.
A comment is never late, zahnib. It arrives precisely when it means to. Or something along those lines
Hahahah, ah youwashock the grey, ever the wise wizard.
Gosh you really have a painted a huge array of models and this advent calendar really shows that off! I agree with Ezki, I can always tell its you when I see your models feature on the homepage. You've got a great style.
And Eldar! Its would seem the stars have aligned and Eldar are on the minds of many...
Both are excellent minis. I do prefer the pale skin scheme of the classic a bit more. The tan one seems more real and grounded. She should not be. The sun may try to fall on her, but she’s too fast to get hit and tanned. Dirt can’t land on her. She should be unnaturally pale and clean.
IMHO. I’m sure when she gets built/painted the new one will be up to your amazing standards.
The backstory for the phasing Eldar warrior is great and love the paintjob on him. Bigger version in purple is my favorite of them. And the rest of the space elves looks great too, most of the old metals hold up really well.
Thank you, everyone. Glad you are enjoying the show.
Nev, appreciate the vote of confidence. I agree the paler skin color suits Lelith better. The third version will most likely go back that direction.
Speaking of diversity, we will be stepping away from GW for a minute.
Spoiler:
Rackham made a big splash when Confrontation made it's way onto the international stage. I was immediately smitten by the Wolfen. Man, the struggles we went through to get this stuff. Backorders from New Wave. Stock issues at Brookhurst. We even ordered from some online store in Sweden. It was a relief when they finally got wider distribution going. These two are still among my favorites, Killyox the pack leader and Kassar the fugitive. Both painted in the early 2000's.
Absolutely love that old Lelith! Such a cool model.
Brings back some memories. A friend of mine had one when we first started collecting (he chose 40k, I chose LotR). Sadly he got rid of it back in the day.
Today we have Beli'al from Shadows of Brimstone. A more recent mini, painted in April of last year. Had a lot of fun with this one. Things just sort of worked out, not a lot of stress. Haven't played SoB in a while. Too bad. It is a fun game.
Also a quick WiP of a side project. Transplanting the chest piece from the Indomitus Chaplain onto the Primaris LT from the 8th Ed. set. Just a smidge of putty and it should be good.
Thanks for looking!

Those Wolfen are glorious! Confrontation had a lot of great models, scrolled through a lot recently, when I painted a friend's mini and wanted to know how the official model looked.
And remember the big guy from last year, wasn't he in the painting comp too? And the scale shot is ace, with the women charging.
No, I think that would have been someone else. I have not entered any of the monthly comps.
Spoiler:
Old Terminators with newer paintjobs. Less than 10 years old. The Librarian from the box set and one of the alternate Grey Knights converted to serve as the only version of my commander to hit the table. I remember going to a painting class 2 hours away and blowing my budget on the Terminator set. I must have been in middle school at the time. That brief bout of hunger still seems worth it.
Akosha Nama from Sedition Wars. Oh, Sedition Wars. You never forget your first time. Baptism by fire, my first Kickstarter. Crashed and burned. Multiple disappointments. However, STILL a good deal for nicely sculpted, decently cast (for the price) generic sci-fi models. Akosha here is my favorite of the bunch. When SW delivered I was in a bit of a painting slump. Working on these guys helped get me back in action.
Played Undead/Vampire Counts as my main army from 3rd edition WHFB until around 7th, when I stopped playing entirely. Even sold my armies. Kept some minis, though. A selection of blood-drinkers. Green guy in front is a full sculpt except for the majority of the big arm and the top half of the head. Wanted a Strigoi style vamp for Mordheim who wasn't like the others. Also including a pic of the minor conversion work on the purple one. Some back spikes.
Dravani from Rezolution: Dark Tomorrow from Aberrant Games. One of the ventures made beyond the borders of GW land. Sort of a cyberpunk setting. Interesting design choices. Lots of platform shoes. Anyway. The Dravani were a race of vampiric aliens. We played it once. One group member ensured it was such a NPE we never played again. Still, some of the figures were OK. The many-armed lass is a favorite.
Those are some cool models with very nice paint jobs. I'm not sure I could fit them into any game I currently play, but they look like they'd be fun to paint.
Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants
Negative Play Experience. We had a player who was all about exploiting loopholes and finding the broken mechanics. First game of Rezolution was an abomination thanks to him. So much that nobody was interested in playing again.
Some more WiP for Marines. Gunslinging Primaris with a souped up jump pack first.
Taking the Moritat idea and slapping it on a Primaris model. Blue-tacked because it will be painted in pieces at first.
And an upgrade to a model that I have never played or painted. My Space Marine Commander in power armor. This guy came about shortly after 3rd edition came out, and has had parts added and removed ever since. At some point it became clear that it would never be painted and was sort of an idea dumping ground. What to do? Start over. Based on the sarge from the Space Marine Heroes set. Lots of tinkering with both of these models. Small modifications and such. Mono-pose minis are fun to convert...so much fun...
And pics with the original version. Or the latest version of the original version. And with the heavier armored version shown here previously. You can see that I kept the cameras, as a commander should be able to keep tabs on the battle. An idea I have held since the first Space Hulk computer game where you had an HUD showing the viewpoint of all your squad members. Also the special gun and fist weapon, but the lightning claw looks cooler, I think.
Hoping to get the new guys painted soonish. If only to prevent further modification.
Spoiler:
VOID. Another stop on the journey to find a game that the group would like that was not 40K. At least we played more than one game of this. Still a big fan of some of their minis. Sadly, they went through a revamp and I was not into the new look. The cleanliness of the early models was gone. Dumped my Koralon ('Nids, really) except for the big monsters shown here and a couple more interesting gribbles. Kept VASA (human elites) and hope to one day have them all painted. The lady in blue may be my favorite mini in the whole range. Just clean, great proportions, subtle pose. I have painted it twice, this version being the altered one with a new gun.
Thanks for looking!

Just catching up on the advent pics, so many great projects you’ve done. I’ve really enjoyed seeing your skills with brush. Looking forward to seeing how the marines turn out.

Thank you all very much! No giving up, Cam. Your work would be sorely missed.
brushcommando, more of a Moritat than a Destroyer, but yes, HH inspired.
Spoiler:
Relic Knights. So, I got into Kickstarter at just the right time, it seems. As a result, I got to partake in Sedition Wars, MYTH, BONES 1 and this little gem. Relic Knights got hit bad, post delivery. Roughly half the minis just weren't well received, and people had a beef with some of the gameplay. I liked the game a lot. I could get past some of the wonky casts, and I felt the gameplay offered a fairly fresh experience. But it seems to have floundered from Day 1, and our group couldn't get around the game's focus on objectives rather than charging madly across the table with your head down. These are from the Doctrine faction. Wizard school in space.
