The dualshock design felt weird for a while after being a 360 user for the duration - I actually had some pains in my hand as I wasn't used to the location of the left thumbstick. But I quickly got over this, and I really enjoy the use of the touchpad.

There's a certain type of person who gets two. In many ways, they are the person who has 4 FW titans, buys 2k points of whatever the newest splash army is, etc. Or, they are the classic "one-upper" of the social group. The guy/gal who has to have the newest and best gadget or toy, and so to ensure they are never left behind, they get ALL the toys.
Conversely, one person who may get both PS4 and Xbone, would be the game reviewers on youtube and such.
Melissia wrote:The xbox controller feels more awkward to my hands than the dualshock design.
For one of the few times, Melissia and I agree one something
I think that maybe I just have oddly shaped hands, because a number of friends with similarly sized hands love the Xbox controllers, but I just find them big in the wrong places, and just awkward overall. That awkwardness makes them "difficult" for me to use regularly.

We as a family would end up getting both eventually because I have nephews and young cousins to entertain. But that's neither here nor there.

In all fairness I don't have a PS4 atm, but I do get PS4 games I want when they are on sale and just hold on to them. When there is a PS4 sale/price drop at the right time I'll pick one up. My wife likes Kingdom Hearts and III doesn't come out for a bit so we got a Xbone first. Having both doesn't mean getting them at the same time, just being patient.

I used to be an Xbox owner but after the machine junked itself I replaced it with a PS3 and now a PS4 with the new generation.
A friend of mine got through six of the things on guarantee, which is absolutely nuts.
So for me it's not games catalogue or performance, it's just the fact that MS would dare to bring such a product to market. Even at my amateur level of electronics skills the inside of the MS looked shoddy, sounded like a jet fighter taking off when you switched it on, and didn't feel like the expensive piece of technology it was. I honestly can't think of another machine that was as badly made, and I've had consoles running back to the Atari 2600 (OK, perhaps the first ZX81 !)
I think if you care at all about that kind of thing or are in the least bit conscientious then there is only one answer to this poll, in my view.

Are you referring to the Xbox 360 or the Xbone? I know the early versions of the 360 had a tendency to brick themselves so I waited on improved models before picking one up but I have never had an issue with the One nor heard of others having it be so problematic.

Haven't heard anything about the xbone bricking itself, either. It seems to be a reasonably stable machine.

As long as you don't block the vents, its a tank. My 6 year old turned it on before bed one night, and I didn't think to check if he turned it off (he knows how, and that he's supposed to). Went to play about 14 hours later, and it wasn't even warm, game still running full throttle.
As I said earlier, the controller fits my hand almost perfectly, but I do wish it was a little better construction. My Microsoft controller's trigger squeaks after 4 months, but the aftermarket one I bought is solid.

You're probably gonna find yourself in the minority on this one. The thumbsticks and crappy shoulder buttons are two of the worst things about the PS controller. The Xbox, on the other hand, is pretty widely renown for having a very comfortable controller. Ergonomics are hit and miss by their nature, but I'm pretty sure popular opinion is firmly with the Xbox here.

No, it's not. That's a limitation of your particular setup. If your wife isn't interested in playing any particular game with you and wants to watch tv instead, then you can't play them, either. I know I've lived with people who, at specific times of the day, DEMANDED to have access to a TV to watch specific shows, and wouldn't just let people play games on said TV at those times-- no matter if they were console or PC.
I think at this point we can agree to disagree.

Same here, very proudly. Like I said, the asymmetric controller is just wrong, it makes you stretch too much. The biggest complaint I've seen about Dualshock 3 was the size, but the size was ok when it was PS1 and 2. The DS4 makes it bigger and is by far the most comfortable controller I've used, and yes I have played games on my friend's XB360.

The thumbstick positions just make me place my thumbs (or, rather, left thumb!) in a position that - to me - feels weird and unnatural.

Symmetry has no bearing on ergonomics. Mouse+Keyboard is asymmetric but tests have shown that it's a vastly superior configuration to any console controller. Fact is, your thumbs have less dexterity when your hands are in the shape of holding a cup. This doesn't matter for things like RPG's or side-scrollers but it's a problem for shooters. The 360 controller (and now the One controller) is almost exclusively used in E-sports for all shooters. It's considered the gold-standard in the pro-gaming community.

I personaly bought the Xbox because if i bought a 2tb harddisk and the xbox one it would cost the same as a ps4 500gb.
All the games that i play is multi-platform so the deciding factor for me was the price.
But i must admit that the app for windows 10 is awsome.. When ever the wife watches some crappy show, i can turn on the xbox and go down to my pc and play from there.

Not having either system, I would lean towards PS4. That's largely because I do have a PS3. Although, 90% of its use has been as a Blu-Ray player rather than a game machine. I've tried, I've honestly tried, but I'm far too much of a PC gamer. To me, gaming just doesn't feel right on a couch in front of a TV, but at my desk with mouse and keyboard at hand is what my soul craves.

It has a better library of games. Sony has done a great job with the ps4 after gaking the bed with the ps3.
Only thing I am really interested in for the X1 is Halo 5 and and Halo collection but don't think halo is no longer the console seller that Halo 1 was.
Though Halo 5 looks pretty interesting first halo I've been interested in since Halo 2.

Have had both, currently only have a Xbox One, LIVE would win it for me on its own.. after trying PSN for a month, I was horrified on how folks put up with it, interface on the PS4 was also annoying, but the most annoying thing I found was the on/off button being possibly the worst design in console history, annoyed the feth out of me and let to my pretty quick dismissal of the system. Dual shock is also a step backwards compared to the Xbox pads, although, the 360 pad was 100% better than the one, still hoping someone does a retro version at some point.
Probably doesn't help that apart from Last of Us, no other exclusive PS4 has interest me.
On a side note regarding Nintendo, anyone else feel they be better pulling a Sega at some point and ditching the console hardware.. can't see how it would do anything other than make them lots and lots of money concentrating on games design, perhaps holding the handheld market as well.

I think their "thing" is highly interactive games though. Smash Bros. excluded, pretty much every WiiU game makes use of moving the controlling apparatus in some fashion to play the game. Imagine what they could do with PS4's tech, or with both system's (thus far) failed usage of camera/motion capturing style games.
Basically, I agree with you, that Nintendo could theoretically revitalize itself as a handheld company, or as simply a peripheral system/game designer.
