The Stormcast have been growing on me day by day. Initially my reaction was the usual "fantasy space marines? Yuck" but by now I actually love them!

Have just bought the 4 new knights and some more liberators and will start painting the this afternoon. Already have a sizeable force from the starterkit and some addons.

I have to say that Age of Sigmar has rejuvenated my flagging interest in warhammer fantasy both its lore and the game itself. My only regret is the constant stream of negativity online which is a constant downer when looking for others who also love AoS

Agree on both your points! The Stormcst grew on me a little too much... And now I have 45 of the buggers. :-D

And your second point is exactly why I made this thread. It got to the point where the constant bitterness and negativity was actually killing my enthusiasm for the game, and I needed somewhere where I could simply enjoy a game I like and talk about it with likeminded people in an optimistic way. So that's what this thread is about! It's not about uncritically accepting everything GW does, it's for people who have an optimistic view of the games future and an appreciation of what it is trying to do on some level.

It's not my main game (which remains 40k), but i've been amazed at how much I've been playing AoS. There are several factors, at the top of which is that my wife enjoys it, which counts for more than pretty much anything else possibly could.

But on its own merits, it's a fun game that's easy to organically grow into, by which I mean, you can learn it as you go along, without the need to digest volumes of rules, and it's a great way to spend some time playing miniature games.

While I'm sure AoS will evolve with time, I hope its core rules simplicity, or at least ease of learning, remains.

I have been rebasing my gobbos and adding more goodies to them since AOS was released. Its quite refreshing to be able to collect small warbands as opposed of big armies so my Nurgle project is also underway. Im also making a nice gaming table.

I step away from the forums for a week and come back to this gem... thank you for starting this thread!!!

For everyone out there continuing to transition to AoS... how are you handling re-basing? I reaaaaally do not want to completely redo all of my Aefl's bases, but I also wish they were on rounds the more games I get in against people who have made the switch.

I heard an interesting approach of just cutting the lip off the square base and then gluing the entire top to a round one... has anyone tried this? Any thoughts?

I'm rebasing everything.

No pain no gain!

And just like Navarro, I'm loving that I only need small war bands now rather than massive armies.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Why rebase? My only houserule is measuring from the "body" of the models, not the weapons and banners. Totally legit and I don't have to rebase anything

Played more AoS. Continues to feel like a videogame. I think the design is more a happy accident, than anything else. And having fun which is all that matters. Making me lay out my force for the next weekend of it to paint them all up.

Balancing via the eye is getting harder. So we'll use the Guerilla Mini's system next time to keep things simpler.

Once you've piled in, circle bases on circle bases, you'll never want to go back ;-)

yes that works for 20mm square onto 25mm round or bigger and 25mm square to 30mm round and up. you will end up with a small lip but it can be over come with fine base sand or just leave it depending on your base style. I've also found that 50mm rounds work well for ogre size models rather than 40's.

welcolm to the party and have fun.

Currently about to embark on my 'winged division' for the Hallowed Knights - the Knights-Azyros and Venator, 6 Prosecutors (all with spears, had enough of the hammers with the starter set guys) and the Celestant-Prime. A veritable horde of angels!

The Hallowed Knights are silver, and despite a silvery Celestant-Prime appearing in the Stormcast book, I think I will do this one the traditional gold - will make him stand out a great deal amongst the rest of my guys.

Here's what I've got so far, plus 3 more Retributors, 5 Paladins, 2 Liberator Champions and another Relictor still on the sprue. I didn't paint any of these so I'm in the process of stripping them... Which is the damned worst thing ever. I forgot what a pain it is to strip plastic minis, especially ones with soooo many nooks and crannies for paint to stay hidden in... Anyone have any tips how to strip them completely clean? After stripping I've been scraping paint from the recesses with a tool, which takes ages. I'm sure they'll look fine after priming but I hate paint flecks :-p

I'm about half way done painting my Stormcast starter forces (I split the AOS starter with a friend in exchange for some Skaven). I've been having fun figuring out my paint scheme. My first 5 liberators were done closer to the studio, but as I got used to the stormcast models, I figured out what I wanted to do so all my other stormcasts will be in this new style except for My cellestant on Drakoth, that will be closer to Studio, so those Liberators can be his body Guards.

This is the First Games Workshop Game I've ever bought into. I've never liked the astetic for 40k, everybody looks blocky and bulky, but I always thought Fantasy looked amazing. But when I ever asked about Fantasy it was always to 40k players and they usually bashed Fantasy.

Recently my local shop has started carrying GW again after a few years. They dropped GW stuff in the past because the stuff got stolen more than it actually ever sold. So I come into the Shop and see a new stand covered in GW stuff.

I look at AOS ans think, I know people are complaining about the rules, but these models do look cool. Then I picked up the box and looked at the back and got a real look of the picture of the Drakoth. So I walk up to my buddy who does the ordering at the store and was the one behind bringing GW back in and was like "You know that fantasy starter you got for free?" "If I buy this can I get the Skaven?" (I've been hounding him for the skaven ever since GW sent him a sample box to try to get the store to pick up GW again)

He was like "But then You'll have 3 armies and I'll only have elves" I was like "you cn have the Demons I want me some Ratmen!"

SO now I hve Storm Cast and Skavem. and Maybe Lizerdmen, but that will be in the new year if I buy them

There are now three of us at the store getting into AOS. Right now we are painting our Armies, but We are really enjoying the fluff and the models and the warscrolls and new scenarios

Well the Skaven have never been so much destructive but i do miss my doom rockets, but i ain't rebasing 500 mini's i'm telling you that now from the get go, how ever my new project it to have a 10 model Vampire army (Neferata, 2 Mounted Vampire lords, 5 blood knights and 2 Vargulf's) that will raise things like bat swarms, fell bats, Vargheist's and Vargulf's and i'l be working on having heroes from all races that look slightly like vampires so i can place them after Neferata gives them the blood kiss lol

Except my minis end at almost the edge of the base. Meaning you are actually losing distance between the two models equal to the distance between the model and the front of its own base...

I'll stick with square, where my models actually overlap my base in all directions most of the time

Purely for aesthetics really, I just like the look of the round bases more if the units are not tightly in a formation. I am definitely doing my Vampire Counts army on resin rounds (so thanks for everyone for the size tips!), so after that I may slooooowly work on converting my entire order force over.

Well I'm working on a Skaven force with a few units from 8th left over, my verminlord is totally gone apparently, and I REALLY love chaos, I'm prob gonna get a couple of Khorne Bloodbound. My only problme with Aos....People say it has broken rules...the only broken thing in AoS in STORMCASTS. THEY HAVE SPACE MARINE SAVES WHAT IS THAT DOING TO MY STORMVERMIN?!

I am obviously a genius. Wether good or evil, well, that all depends on what I had for breakfast.

To Stormcast Eternal players in the know: What is a good "First purchase" after the starter kit? I'm thinking buying two boxes of liberators to give my guys options for hammers but those archers would provide nice ranged support.m

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
30k Ultramarines: 2000 pts
Bolt Action Germans: ~1200 pts
AOS Stormcast: Just starting.

I have become a die hard fan of the stormcasts too, especially after reading the novels (maybe it's the 40k player in me as well, or the fact that I like celestial angels/demons). I started with the starter set too back when it came out.

To be honest, I would say invest in another lord on dracolith ($9 on ebay), and a Lord Castellant. Use the dracoliths to tear your enemy to pieces with both range and CC. Use the Castellant to buff your armies saves for survivability (a 2+ save on a dracolith is friking wicked!).

After that I'd add some judicators for suport, definitely more retributors, and then some other support characters. The 10 Liberators from the starter are probably good enough, they are really only good as tarpits and objective campers imho.

By the way, great thread! Glad to see many people enjoying the game!

For the record, I was hot on AoS, and was working on more Dogs of War stuff.

But yesterday, Kingdom Death : Monster arrived, and I'm going to want to get some of that playable.

I use an old toothbrush to clean the model once I take it out of the stripping solution.

I haven't lost to Stormcasts once yet. The older armies seem more powerful then the two new ones.

Haven't won a game with my Stormcasts yet. One of my regular opponents is a Dwarf player and they are brutal at range, brutal in combat and unbelievably resilient with the right selection of effects. Cluster of Warmachines with an engineer, unit if longbeards with orbiting Lords chucking out multiple grudges, Runesmiths giving rend or armour buffs and a BSB that renders mass immunity to Battleshock... Ugh.

People on eBay have been splitting up the starter sets and selling the units much cheaper than the boxes. You can buy liberators for about $12 for 5 instead of $50.

Anyone tried smaller games so they can play alternate sides on a battleplan in a session i.e. attacker and then defender?

I think that'd be a fun way of exploring the battleplans more.

My LGW is in the middle of a campaign, and so I decided to jump in.

There's a couple guys playing the new sigmarites, one guy playing Khorne and a small mix of other armies here and there. I'm building an Empire army, because I have and love the Karl Franz model, and I absolutely love the Greatsword models. So now the GS's are the backbone of my army and I'm slowly expanding the force with the campaign.

It's great fun, pretty simple set up and play, and so far every game has really been a back and forth affair for me. Usually an entire game will hinge on one or two dice rolls around turns 3 or 4, so they are fairly tactical and "tense" throughout.

Aside from my DWARFS! I am rebasing/collecting some new figurines for my warlord tales:

- Stormcast army. Now I'm going to repaint them.
- Khorne mortal/daemon army (from starter set, add bloodletters, blood crushers, war hounds)
- Undead zombie horde (two finecast heroes on mounts, about 100 zombies, 50 ghouls, 30 skeletons)
- Skaven...one unit of clanrats and a bunch of metal jezzails
- Bretonnia...units of men at arms, bowmen, two knight units, one pegasus, trebuchet

To be honest all my old stuff is finding new life! Even if just as a small war band to accent bigger games.

What's the best solution for stripping paint?
