Yeah, that is a great Goretide, Thaxas!

@Ensis Ferrae - you know, the funny thing is, I was so happy that the old terrain is phased out simply because it all went on sale, and I was able to snap up stuff I never bought for 50%.. or more... off of current retail! My collection of old Fantasy terrain (new in the box) is beefing up, and making me want to paint it

To be honest I started getting further and further away from wargaming the more busy Ive been the past few years.

When AoS was announced I ended up looking at the set and thinking it looked awesome, so I picked up the white dwarf that had the stormcast guy in it. Painting that first figure after a few years of being out of the hobby was really nice, I forgot how relaxing the painting part could be.

So Im pretty invested now, Ive read the first book that came out, (gate of azyr? or something like that) and have started collecting some different small skirmish size factions to play some small games with my friends and my son. AoS ended up bringing me back into the hobby that I no longer had any interest in. (that and my son is old enough to be able to play now)

That is great to hear Rotgut. I think painting gives me the greatest joy too. The fact that you can play AOS with your Son and friends is great too, and all it takes is a few units and a character or two to get a game in .

If you sat down and did little else... you could probably do it over a lazy Saturday afternoon, with lots of waiting for drying time.

As it was, I did one side in gold per evening last week, with the shading of it on Friday night. The rest was over the weekend in between a whole bunch of other models.

It really does not take long but you will need a lot of paint

There is not this idea.

I like the color choice. Not a fan of the terrain itself, but that's the best I've seen it.

Matt, any chance we can see your entire AOS collection in one shot? You seem to post a fully painted unit every other day! :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Yeah, you see, I always end up doing this - started off a little Dark Angels army a few years ago. I now have to count it up by company...

Short answer, I don't think they will fit into one shot

Thing is, I am not even mad about painting. It is just that when I get back from work, like many people, I like watching the TV. Trouble is, I can't just sit there and watch, I have to do something. Painting fits the need perfectly.

Give me a good DVD box set, and I'll churn out a whole army

So, as it stands, I have a sizeable Bloodbound force of about 100-odd models, the Stormcasts are seriously getting towards similar numbers, got pint-sized forces for Sylvaneth and Pestilens, and Nurgle and Tzeentch forces are just getting started (Blight Kings on the table right now!).

Still, managing to get some use out of the models too - in about an hour got a game going from one of the Battleplans in the Stormcast book...

Ohh, I dont know... With the right landscape/panoramic lenses you could probably get everything in there... But then when you post it, it may get confused with Epic models

LOL, that's me!!

My painting output is often directly proportional to the number of good but not totally awesome TV shows that I want to watch. The great ones, I won't paint during. My painting shows need to have good dialogue, a decent plot, and drama that can be enjoyed without watching the screen (much).

I've watched a couple of shows without ever seeing the actors, then watched them again with my wife, and then gone, holy crap, that guy is incredibly annoying. Ironically, just listening to the voice, I liked the character just fine.

We got round to those game last night - the Lightning Strikes battleplan from the Stormcasts book, and the Reclaim the Fallen from the Khorne Bloodbound book. Both make for a good start to the campaign in the Realm of Fire, and would recommend them thoroughly!

More piccies and the full report here;

Great report Matt! Sounds like some fun scenarios indeed.

Speaking of which, I played a couple of games myself this past sunday! Managed to snap a couple of pics of the second game, which was the "A Forlorn Hope" Battleplan from the app. It's a siege scenario, where the defender of the fortress simply has to survive for six turns. We added a rule where the attacker could destroy the walls, to make it more exciting. The walls had 20 wounds and a 4+ save, which proved to be just right!

The Bloodbound (defenders) player only had the starter box models. I played Stormcast and simply put everything I brought on the table, which apart from the starter box also included 10 Judicators, 5 Decimators, a Heraldor and a Lord Castellant.

The Stormcast have advanced as quickly as possibly, with Vandus taking the lead and charging through the fortress gate.

Vandus is torn to pieces by the combination of Khul, a Khorgorath and his own Heraldor causing the earth to shake and chunks of wall to fall down, injuring Stormcast and Bloodbound alike. The Lord Castellant bravely steps up to take Khul on, while the Judicators pelt the walls with arrows of light and the rest of the army prepares to take down the walls with their axes and hammers.

The walls have been breached! Unfortunately the Lord Castellant is caught under the rubble, but nor before taking out both Khul and the Khorgorath. The Decimators wade in and utterly destroy a 20-man unit of Bloodreavers, their mighty axes taking out scores of opponents with each swipe. The Bloodbound army is in shambles, and the last two Blood Warriors and the Bloodsecrator charge the Stormcast, screaming their litanies to Khorne. The battle ends there, and since the Stormcast have failed to take out the remaining three Khornate warriors, the Bloodbound have taken the day!

This game was SO much fun. We didn't use any comp system, we just winged it, even adding the "destroy the walls" rule which proved to be both necessary (because of the tiny gate) and a lot of fun. I really loved the Heraldor and his ability to shake the walls to their foundations, but since my guys were right there as well, I think he killed an equal amount of models on both sides :-D

My opponent also pointed out that two of my most important weapons in this fight turned out to be a lantern and a trumpet

Would certainly recommend this scenario for a fun narrative battle. I also really got to see how quick this game plays! We played two games in less than four hours, including lunch and a lot of simply hanging out and talking. Such a huge difference from the often grueling 40k sessions which last an entire afternoon. Two thumbs up!

The Decimators are very, very good against Bloodreavers, aren't they?

I decided to dust off my Warriors of Chaos collection to paint up for AoS. Show the new cats how the OGs did it back in the day.

Not gonna like I'm kind of excited to being able to field the more exotic WoC units like the Mutalith or the Warshrine.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Well it seems that way considering that the death realm is getting a 4 part audio CD. In the first one the first 4 minutes and 40 seconds is of nagash giving an epic speech on how he will endure everything that chaos and other people to do to him and how he is rising again after his defeat by Archeon. One of his line is him giving those who believe in him and those who do his will this order, this is the quote (which is rather epic btw) "Seek out my foes and make them yours! Take from them as they have taken from me!"

He is not exactly a happy lich since he considers stormcast/sigmar as thieves and chaos as invaders of his realm. Oh and a certain von Carstein is still alive in aos. I assume he is writing about one of the tomb king characters since there are 8 storm hosts in the realm of death looking for the gates of the underworld or the gate to stygix since they seek and audience with nagash.

Oh man, you don't know how useful these old bendy sticks were even if the inches were off! I've unclogged the johnny in a flat, I used to live in, no less than three times using the old sticks when all else failed... So for me this is definitely not an improvement as the new ones are sturdier
