Leaving this here for myself as a reminder to get the Subject poll up tomorrow. Anyone got any good suggestions?

How about a squad month; paint up a squad ie - 5-10 figs of a singular army. Gotta be a cohesive unified squad. Markings, leader, heavy weap etc

Robots and/or mechanikal contraptions? Would certainly encompass a lot of different genres and manufacturers.

I would second this suggestion. Another good one might be "Glorious Leader". Your entry should be some kind of officer or leader.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2024: 40 | Total models painted in 2025: 21 | Current main painting project: Warhammer 40k Leviathan set

Hmm, getting deja vu here with some of these! Hero characters, machines and models that represent their whole faction have all been run in polls before, though only Machines got through.

So far for this month we have 'Tis But A Scratch (model must have some kind of injury) carried over from last month. Steampunk could work if it has to but it is pretty niche and I don't want to pick something that's going to leave people out.

The poll won't be going up until this afternoon, so keep the suggestions coming!

'Welcome to the jungle' - can take it literally or go a little broader, urban settings are often referred to as concrete jungles. Might suit some of your Batman stuff, Para.

Appetite for destruction - something that loves carnage or has the capacity for colossal damage output

It's soldier's life for me - paint a grunt model from any faction/ paint a scene or model that epitomises what it means to be a soldier.

'They mostly come at night. Mostly'. - something noucturnal, something normal in a night time paint scheme/scene, something nocturnal during the day/out of place. Something true to the quote, some foul xenos.

May have just heard some guns 'n roses on the radio...

I'd have to disagree with Januine's suggestion on the grounds of painting time. I don't know about others but I rarely have time to complete more than a couple of models a month these days. I think the starting point should always be one model and then people can expand as much as they feel comfortable.

Hmm, I can definitely work something with the song titles... Might throw in a few others (not just G'n'R) and see what folks like... Stay tuned...

And yep, agreed on the minimum model count always being 1. As much as a speed-painting contest might be fun, and is something that could definitely be run as an 'extra' to the challenge in future, I'm not going to try it as a main one simply as some people won't have the time/minis available to meet the requirements.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok, song title themes. Going to throw out a bunch, and check back later to see which ones are popular, which will then go in the poll alongside last month's runner up.

Welcome to the Jungle as suggested above.

Born to Run: the model should be something fast, but not using any kind of vehicle (jump packs and speed-increasing suits are fine, but no wheels, treads or engines).

Fear of the Dark: the model should be associated with night/darkness/shadows. Like the nocturnal suggestion above, but it could also encompass mages using shadow magic, or a sneaky assassin hidden in the shadows

Princes of the Universe: the model should be in some way greater than the 'norm' for its species. Examples include a Chaos Lord pumped up on demonic power, or an Ork who is simply da biggest and da best!

Sympathy for the Devil: This one's for the baddies! Anything villainous, nefarious or evil goes.

Livin' on a Prayer: Your model should in some way incorporate faith or belief. Anything from a Sister of Battle to a Sigmarite priest.

Anything we like there?

Agreed! the witch on a broomstick is my favorite so far.
Having trouble getting hold of tiny jack-o-lanterns personally, I'm considering having a go at making them myself, but i'm a bit stumped on how to do so while lacking money or materials.
My pot of liquid greenstuff has dried considerably so i'll try using that, but i don't really know what i'm doing!

Has anyone found a neat way of making said jack-o-lanterns yet?

Looking very tiny and very cool!
I'm glad you found a way to pumpkin.

Wondering if I'll get mine started. Very short on time this week, and with them being very simple figures, I'd like to do them justice.

Well done on the pumpkins SirDoland

Zambro those flames look very nice, I like the details on the model.

An update for me on what I've managed to get done this weekend, still some highlights and the smaller details to do but I've actually made progress! feels like I might finish in time now.

I'm finding it really hard to paint the light saber as a 3-d object (at the moment the light to dark effect only works form the front and back), if anyone can suggest how to do it I'd love to learn.

Thanks for the encouragement on the pumpkins to both BC and Midget Gems - midget gems; your orks are fabulous as usual!

So I FINISHED!!!

Only five photo's allowed, huh? i'm game - here you go!

After shattering it's skull into a paste of bits and blood, the little mannequin noticed that he was in a pumpkin patch - a thought occurred to him; "I could make that thing look like 'jack-o-lantern'!"
It took the little mannequin a lot of effort to move the body into place, dragging it by one of it's arms, but the satisfaction from the overall effect made all the effort worthwhile!
"There couldn't be a better time for this than halloween!" he mused before going on his way.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass.
