Haha I'd like the idea of an artillery battery with various big guns, that'd help with them surviving past turn 2

The amount of custom work performed here is impressive. Really like the back packs you made. And the Lasguns add some much needed variation.

Thanks a lot Panda! I love the IG but Cadians tend to all look the same and be really characterless, so I wanted to make mine stand out, (which with my 110 guardsmen in my army list is going to be a task!)

Aaanyways, sorry its only a small update but its kindof important. Black Lasgun or green?
(the head on one of the guys is off Vic minis, awesome casts! found HERE)

Thanks for all the kind words as always.
Will do a tutorial on packs tomorrow

I think a nice mix of green and black lasguns would be great, especially if it's variety you're after

Yeah good idea thanks man! I asked my sister the same thing and she said that both colours would look cool aswell. Thanks for the reply
Right! You've all been keen for a tutorial on how to do the SM packs that I made, I personally don't even like them, so this is for you RazgrizOne!
Step 1:
get as many bits as you can that you think would be on a pack. eg, grenades, binoculars, pouches, bayonets, etc.

Step 2:
cut off all the parts of the SM pack so it looks like this

Step 3:
Add on all the gubbins in sensible places, the bullets are from the heavy bolter feed, on the HWT sprue. And the pouch is just separated from the two other bits that usually attach to the back of a guardsman.

Step 4:
Be Imaginative! I'm not entirely certain what sprues all the bits are from, some of the pouches are SM tactical squad (I think.. ) but otherwise there just the canteens, pouches, grenades etc. are all bits that you get when you buy IG sprues.

Nice one guys, hope this helps, and sorry for the bad photos
EDIT: sorted the pics out, first time using the dakka gallery...lol

I really like the backpack conversion! It will give the models a lot more character.

Looks great! Really gives off that military feel,

If you look at a soldier out on patrol irl, they carry loads of kit with them, your packs will go a long way to make the guard models look more like they should be in a warzone

I am loving this army! My group plays with a lot of custom conversions etc! This army would SOOO fit on our tables. Do not stop with the conversions please (yeah, I know, your local GW store has to protect their game etc...I'm in the US so its independent stores where I live). As an IG player with like 4k points and building, I want the 404 guarding my right flank (my left has some wonky guys in blue armor...I don't trust them, but their all seven feet tall so...) Hey, I was thinking of putting widows on my sentinels, any tips for it? Your vendetta came out great.

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Hey thanks man that's really encouraging! don't worry the conversions will keep coming The 404th would hold the flank to the last man
As for your windows on your sentinel you could buy thin sheets of Perspex or acrylic and then paint them with the green tint I used found HERE

stonned_astartes wrote:Found some ideas for more back packs & webbing.

Awesome! thanks for finding these, always good for an extra bit of inspiration!
Heres some ive been working on! (zoomable in the gallery )

Sorry I haven't been updating but I'm at the Height of Exams season, although theres only two weeks left, so after that ill be free to paint loads and we'll really see the 404th take off!
thanks for your patience

Hello Guys!
With only 6 days of exams left, I have squeezed in some time to finish off the first squad of guardsmen that have been almost finished for a extremely long time!
What do you think of the bases? I think they look pretty cool but I am open to suggestions.

It was after this squad had been painted that I realised that they didn't have very much gear and so subsequent squads will be more heavily laden.

This is Sgt. Gray Ustrel, he is known for being a survivor, and a crack shot with his modified "long las" pistol with which he can take the hat off an ork at fifty paces. He lost his arm to a rowdy ork boy, who regretted leaving Sgt Ustrel with one good arm!
I named him after Ustrello as he has been a supporter of this blog for a long time, but don't worry I have noticed everyone else and you will get similar treatment My way of repaying you lot for being nice

Sgt. Ustrel accompanied by two of his squadmates with slightly cooler lasgun conversions

C&C always welcome, next time I update exams will be over and I can really get started!!

Hello Guys!
It is with great joy I'm bringing this update! Exams are over and now its time to get cracking

Remember the lascannon teams from like page 1? well I actually finished them now.. after a very long time. based and ready to go.

Heres a side view. Any tips on photography? I'm pretty rubbish...

But! with the completion of that HWT I now have basically as many lascannons as I do fully painted guardsmen at the moment... heres a group shot

not very much I know but I'm very happy with the standard each man is painted to.

That said, heres a picture of all the guardsmen that I have, and are all in various stages of modelling/painting... better get going

The next job on my list is an 8 man team with one HW, if you look closely you can see quite a lot of GS work has gone into them to make them look a bit cooler, aswell as some third party heads, and converted "long las" rifles. I tried to theme this squad as if theyre all firing a volley and It looks fairly good imo

Firing off a volley
And of course. you cant have " 'ard as nails " guard without :

BEARDS! lol I'm not the best sculptor but I think that looks cool.

Cheers
STG

Cheers! yea a "medal of honour" type look is high praise! thanks SA, think ill have to name a sergeant after you

AAnyways, just a mini update, with a cool conversion idea for you guys.
I went down to my local FLGS and picked up a £6 box of chaos cultists, now, before you all scream heresy, check this.

Heresy? nay, these traitor scum posess some pretty rad autoguns, so I removed the traitors from there guns, which was quite a task If I'm honest due to them being snap together. and ended up with this:

Pretty cool and un chaotic right?
so then I got my veteran squad, to which I added some militarum tempestus beret heads, for an extra veteran-y look, and heres the result.

and to finish off, because no STG guardsmen unit can get away with not having a goatee or a beard, I added both

hope you like them and sorry for the bad pics, the beards actually look pretty rad IRL so just take my word for it
excuse the paintjobs they will be redone, although they aren't too shabby for a 13 year old me
peace out
