Not a trowel. Someone clearly used a left-handed brush with their right hand.
Amazing how people watch Warhammer TV vids to improve their painting then ignore basic guidance.

The Hammerhead one's a funny story. Can't remember what we were playtesting (we played so much Deathwatch because we play tested basically every book from Achillus Assault through the the last one they did), but we were fighting the Tau and came up against a Hammerhead in a massive hanger. I almost always bring Meltabombs because you never know when you're going to need them, so myself, one other player and my knife-wielding friend all ran around behind it.

Planted the bombs, and got out of dodge. Well... two of us did. Mr. Knife did not, and decided to hit the Hammerhead. To his credit he did some damage, and then was immediately blasted to itty bitty bits by the explosion. Not long after the rest of us were fighting the Tau Commander and his retinue, on the top of a Manta that was moving into the atmostphere to try and leave the world. Oh, and the Manta was on fire. That was a great game.

The upgrade sprue looks good and the box is a good deal, however I am really dissappointed with the army list as it looks exactly like the Space Marine army list. I was hoping for something unique and flavourful as a sort of mini-dex, a la Militarum Tempestus or Harlequins. Might pick up the spear captain for a standalone model down the line but unlikely at this point.

Seriously? It looks no better or worse than anything else that's arrived since the Stormraven. It just looks flatter and bulkier and all in all more flying metal box with guns. If anything its worse to me that the other SM flyers.

I heard this story once that debating matters of taste is moot. Dunno, might be an ancient legend.

To me it looks vastly better than any other SM flyer, which tend to look like dock containers.

That sounds awesome. Your group is oddly competent mine had a high death rate. One time the lone jetpack guy decided now is a good time to fly out into the middle of the open into all the chaos cultists and CSM with bolters to flank them. Everyone else was hidden and in cover and flew over them. He lasted a round of shooting to his credit before landing on the ground in a meaty pulp. Hahah. He took 10+ attacks. His character had the highest insanity and the Emperor told him to do strange things sometimes. His character was a flesh tearer assault marine. Though this flying incident was all on him since he didn't have the insanity at that point. Haha.

Expecting anything other than a Marine army list with odd bells and whistles goes against most of the background we've had since the Deathwatch introduction. The list seems to fit the RPG background perfectly. The different kill team types hopefully have the RPG options like techmarines, apothecaries and assault marines included.

I'd like to know the difference between the Deathwatch squad (the one we've seen sprue pictures of I'm guessing) and the upgrade sprue (terminator pads and vehicle icons?). Is the guy with the halberd the miniature for the Watch Master to come in the next few weeks?

At the end of the day Deathwatch are still a Marine Chapter, so they still have normal squads. They're just super elite squads because they're made up of outstanding Marines from other chapters.

I meant, they have all these lists that looks exactly like a Space Marine list. What I was anticipating was a Codex that read

Watch Captain
Kill Team
Blackshields
Veterans/Special Unique squad
Terminators
Rhinos/Pods/Razors and Land Raiders

Ie, a mini-dex a la MT. The different kill team types you mention look more like formations to me, as they are coming after the unit entries in the list instead of in the normal HQ Troop Elite Fast Attack Heavy Support LoW pattern.

I'm guessing the deathwatch sprue comes with unique parts and minis with the Deathwatch stuff sculpted onto the pieces, whereas the sprue is a few sets of legs, bolters, arms and shoulders and some other bits and bobs thrown on a sprue like the DA and BT upgrade kits.

Why would they have Blackshields?

Yeah, Blackshields are not a separate unit, they are integrated in the Kill Teams as are all other members. And you don't know, if there is an optional upgrade fro a Blackshield in the Veteran Squad with some special rule to save the squad members.

The unit entries are pretty much what I expected.

Is there any way for me to get a Blood Raven pauldron? I want to recreate my player squad form the rpg.

Ultramarine Pads easy, Dark Angel again easy, Flesh Tearer is in the new kit, I forget what my one player played I think he was an Imperial Fist or Crimson Fist, and then I need a Blood Raven pauldron.

Ultramarine Sniper/Tactical Marine Class.

Flesh Tearer Assault Marine

Dark Angel Tech Marine

Imperial Fist Devastator Marine

I'm forgetting one other players chapter and class. It's been years since I've played.

Blood Raven Captain (NPC/My Story Guy)

The Flesh Tearer was interred into a Dreadnought.

Surfing the Tervigon Wave...on a baby.

So going by the codex table of contents image...

Veterans and Terminators seem to be Troops.

Dreadnoughts their Elites.

Vanguard Vets and Bikes, along with transports and the flyer in Fast Attack.

And Land Raiders as their Heavy Support.

It is indeed a small army. With a small selection of units.

Now only a CSM player.

@Gamgee: Blood Raven and Imperial Fist guys have pauldrons in DWO. If you can get them from a bitz site or ebay, you're sorted .

Corvus Blackstar their flyer. Allegedly that is its name from someone who translated it. The funny thing is there is a cool fandex on ATT and I submitted a full flying monstrous creature suit based off the Ghostkeel chassis called the Darkstar. Great minds think alike when it comes to naming stuff.

The image at the bottom lists what is in their codex.

You get them made via 3d printer as that is where custom bits are going. No need to wait for GW.

Where do I find a custom 3d printer? Not the device but a company who could do it? Also sounds expensive.

Edit
Thanks angel.

There is so much I want to do. I need to finish damn tidewall, need to do the Ta'unar, then I want to do the Tau flyers, then start Beastclaw Raiders/Orruks Ironjaws, and now Deathwatch. I have not the time and certainly not the money. :(

That... is actually very smart. Until you get ganked by those sneaky ambush kroot. My Ultramarnes sniper player learned to hate them when they were a known presence on a mission and he kept closer to the group since they would just ambush him and nearly always kill him. He also hated lictors always dragging him out of the area of operations and devouring him. The NPC Inquisitor I had on some missions used a Tau carbine and an Eldar power sword. Ah I love the Deathwatch.

Edit

Oh I also got to actually play instead of host once. It was a Rogue Trader game. I managed to outsmart the Eldar and Dark Eldar combined, stopped an Ork waaagh with dozens of rokks, back stabbed the general about to assassinate the planetary governor and frame him. Then take up his position, chase down the big bad end game in my frigate and nuke him. All in the course of a day. Suffice to say my FLGS still considers that game legendary. And the people thanked me for saving them. My GM an old Vietnam veteran claimed I was very "Machiavellian".

Based on the sprue, this isn't a kit filled with several unique mono-pose models. Just looking at the pics shows multiple options, including a couple of very big double sided hammers (made in an =][= style), plus the heavy combi-bolter/flamer, frag cannon, shotguns, HTH weapons, shields, all sorts'a stuff!

I'm suddenly reminded of our first game with that character. One of the group couldn't make it, so his Fleshtearer Sanguinary Priest (with two Chainswords, naturally!) sat the game out. We had my sniper, an Ultramarine Librarian (general stuff) and a Blood Raven Librarian (player had gone full-on Lore skills with everything, so very little combat utility outside of a few basic powers and, well, being a Space Marine).

Everything was going fine up until the end. We had to get into a cave network where some Eldar had set up shop. There were a couple of Wraithguard wandering around on sentry duty, plus Dire Avengers, and a Warlock in there. I took my first shot, it was going to be glorious... 100. Jammed instantly. From there it kinda went to hell.

I survived, and ended up carrying the other two Librarians out. One of them had my fav Perils of the Warp result, Chronological Incontinence and vanished for a few turns only to show back up to kamehameha himself to oblivion with a full-charge Smite right at his feet (whoops!) where as the Blood Raven summoned a Daemon Prince that trampled the Warlock to death and would have killed the Blood Raven if not for Fate Points. It... didn't go well.

That is funny and reminds me of something similar and far worse. In the campaign we had the CSM did their dastardly stuff and created a Bloodthirster. The enemy psyker was casting his powers and he summons a chaos deamon prince. Hahah. My group was sweating now. I didn't even mean for this to happen.

Then my friend sees its a last desperate stand. He puts all he has into a power and... summons another deamon prince. Hahaha.

Oh my god. So we had all these huge deadly threats running around. The players immediate bolted. Like two people didn't make many had to burn fate points. One guy made it out at a limp.

I took some mercy on them and thought this is the perfect chance for all these deamons to start duking it out. With only one marine they will all be vying for control. So they start inter fighting and the one player managed to get the bodies of the survivors and make his way to their ship.

Great times.

It's the first other plane that came to mind, other than the tail looking like its from a Valkyrie kit.

The wings are actually very similar to Stormraven wings. They have the same rotating thrusters on the wing tips.

I am defiantly liking the flyer. I don't think converting it into another chapter will be feasible with the giant =I= on top however I'm thinking that the cockpit could be opened up and other rhino doors be used. In fact. I am thinking on getting one to really cut up. Remove one underwing passenger pod to replace with a cargo grapple for one of the Inq. cars from wargames exclusive. Perhaps too ambitious, perhaps the car will not fit under the wing. Defiantly no rules for it. But it would be cool.
