Let's try and keep it at least semi-civil, posts saying "something something stupid liberals" or the same about conservatives aren't polite, aren't useful, and won't be permitted. Reel it in a bit, this isn't twitter, posts need to be actual posts that abide by the rules.

What does that tell you about Clinton?
What does it tell you about Cruz, Rubio, Kasich etc...?
Maybe being a really horrible turd is actually an electoral advantage, because there's a lot of people out there who are drawn to horrible turds. Maybe because, you know, they're deplorables. Maybe there's even a whole basket of them.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

It's swung this election. But that doesn't mean it is the only determinant of elections.
2) It appears Barack Obama was an electoral aberration.
No, it really doesn't. Clinton will likely win the popular vote, meaning Democrats have won 5 of the last 6 popular votes. It's hard to call Democratic wins an aberration in that context.
A Republican win by the least Republican candidate in living memory probably says a lot about where Republican strategy should go from here, though. And a lot of that will play out in how Republicans work or don't work with Trump.
3) Polling companies are going out of business (minus Nate Silver 538 as he was fething right all along).
The various models that appeared in the wake of Silver's successes in 2008 and 2012 have been shown to be really lacking, particularly in failing to account for a correlation between states. Polling companies have shown to be about the same as always, pretty pointless singly, fairly okay when aggregated.
Trump is currently up 1.8 million votes in the popular vote, so I am pretty sure Clinton won't get that either.

I'm still waiting to see how my home state of Michigan turns out. There are still plenty of Detroit area precincts that represent a decent number of people...
And, yes, I think there are far more people who silently voted for Trump than there appears to be. I'm currently at the University of Michigan, and Ann Arbor is probably the most liberal city in the state. People almost aggressively support Clinton, or at the very least oppose Trump, so I'm not surprised that nobody has really bothered to present contrary opinions. It actually intimidates me, to a certain extent.

The democrats are already moderate. They're only left in comparison to the sheer raving lunacy of the republican party, by the standards of the world as a whole they're a pretty centrist party. And even by the standards of the US they're not all that far left, given how much support Sanders got with a platform of "the democrats need to move left". The democrats didn't lose because they aren't far enough right, they lost because the US is full of deplorables and people who are gullible enough to believe things like "they're both equally bad".

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

The KKK must be trilled about the results. It's been the better part of the century since the candidate they were publicly backing won. I can't say I was backing trump or that I can get behind their views, but I've got enough empathy in my to acknowledge when something is making other human beings happy.

This is true, from the perspective of the rest of the world, the US a right wing party, and a really fething batgak insane right wing party.

Can we cut the 'deplorables' bit? Yes, there ARE deplorable people who support Trump. Clinton too. But being willfully ignorant, blind, and/or plain dumb does not mean someone is actually a deplorable person. Many people honestly believe Trump is the better choice, despite copious evidence to objectively prove the opposite. That belief doesn't make them deplorable, just illogical.
