But also! a little chaos marine, with a stormcast head! The stormcast heads work pretty well for chaos actually, they got a creepy vibe to them. Should I clean up and drill the barrel? Probably. Will I?
....
Next: Me actually focusing on a single thing, ever? haha, no.

What is this “focus” thing?
The Stormcast heads are definitely a good choice for Chaos, they fall so hard into uncanny valley it’s impossible for them to look anything but wrong.
Are you a perfectionist? If no then a spot of black paint is the most you need. Drilled barrels and even painted ones are usually a bigger waste of time than eyes on table-top paint jobs.

amazingturtles,
I would do the drilling...it is just so easy on plastic models.
I have to show one of my gaming group your AoS Stormcast head idea as he is building a Chaos Warband slowly out of all sorts of left over Marines.

Ha, i am definitely not a perfectionist. I may try drilling it just for the sake of trying, but i don't think i can manage an entire army.

Thanks! I've got another one to show, i think it's working pretty well
like chaoticmind says, it's that uncanny valley effect, combining the over the topness of chaos with an emotionless mask. I might try to make a third, make it a litte bit wilder.

Hm... well, he's not actually wilder yet. In fact he is probably too tame for chaos. But i tried to get the "intoning from a book" thing going, and I think it worked.
Intoning with a power fist.
Next: I had actually lost my container that had all my various little animals in, but now it is found! So, pets!

Thanks, both of you! feel free to steal, as I think i know i'm not the first to try it.
Here are some more beasty cultists types. Two of them have friends! They are made from battered parts and i still need to fix up stuff. There's some bases and bits that are twenty years old in there i think.
Two of them have pets!

Thank you! I've got a couple more that i am still painting up. Maybe i will put them here soon. Maybe i will forget. It is hard to say.
In the meantime, here is a lanky mutant fellow kitbash.
Nothing much, just messing around. I kind of want to make a small mutant/alien squad, they and the beast cultists can be friends.

Did you have an idea in mind already for what he/she was supposed to look like before you put glue to plastic?
'Cause he/she reminds me of some non-GW IP, but I can't place him/her.

Honestly I did not have much of a plan. I knew i wanted to do something with the kroot body, but things changed a couple of times when i was working, originally they had a drum in one arm, but then i found those long arms in my bits box and they seemed a much better fit. I should plan more, i know.
Here's something else though that i forgot to put up here: another chaos/stormcast/renegade marine with a friend!
Hands that are pointing are invaluable, but even more so are hands can be used as bird rests.

I like this latest "falconer", that's one big, ugly bird The rest of the Stormcast Marines are cool too, the guy with the book reminds me of my favorite IG Commissar.
Regarding SM hands, the Devastator kit is really great for them as it comes with a pair (left and right) of pointing, fist and open hands).

FWIW, I'm not arguing that you need to plan more. I'm aware everyone's process is different.
Personally, I almost always have a plan, but it rarely survives contact with plastic or a keyboard.
IMO, the Falconer needs a cape/cloak. It's a status thing.

Thank you! yeah, the bird is wonderfully ugly and i love it. And i will have to check out the devastors when i get the chance!

Don't worry about the plan thing, i was joking around. But yes, capes are a must. I've got a few lying around but the trick of getting them and backpack to work at the same time is... tricky
Anyhow, I've made a couple more simple guys. One of them has a cape! also this is a group shot:
That is all!

I'd use GS.
I've recently taken my first steps into working with GS, sculpting robes for my Malefic 'Lords'. All of my results so far have been far too terrible to post, but my latest efforts are far less terrible than my first efforts were.

Briancj's plan is pretty sound. You can sand down some of the cape and the part of the backpack they do not see to get a more flush appearance.

It has been a busy holiday! one of my nephews came by and he decided he wanted to help his crazy aunt make a guy.
(for the record, that's a tau body and arm, gsc head and other arm, and... space marine legs. yes.)
Blurry, but i think he turned out good! Heretical? Possibly. But it was fun. Family game times are good. Sadly was not able to get a game of silver tower in like i hoped, but oh well.
Ok, a more actual post next time.

amazingturtles,
I split up all my 40k projects into their own logs. While it does mean they drop many pages between updates, if you are looking at a particular army it makes surfing easier.
What do you mean by needing to "fill her wrist"? It looks like she is stroking the hair on the top of the animal.

You are right, maybe i'm overthinking the thread thing
I'm glad that she looks like she's petting it, that's exactly what i wanted it to look like! I was just worried her wrist looked a little to thin with how i cut and rearranged that hand. If it works, i can leave it as is.
And because i don't like posting without content, here is a picture entitled "wait, why do i have all of these chaos marines again?"
There's that head again.
