So it appears that FFG are using their holiday sale to clear stock on the GW RPGs; the books all appear to be down to $5 a piece!

I'm sure there's lots of other good deals on there too.

Is this one of their crazy good prices with 'arm and a leg postage' attached?

Whoo! Couldn't resist buying the Diskwars stuff. Bought 2 of the core sets ($10 each) and 1 each of the expansion ($5 each).

And yeah, shipping isn't great. $30 for the boxes and $17 for the shipping, and that's within the Continental US.

($160 for all the 40K books, $350 if I added all the WHFR stuff too sigh)

Just ordered the two Warhammer 40k Relic expansions for $10 each. With shipping to the easy coast of the US, it came to $33 total... $13 of which was shipping. Give that the expansions are normally $40 each, that's a pretty solid deal. I didn't see anything else that I had to have, but it's a perfect opportunity to pick up some of the Warhammer stuff that will soon be gone forever.

I picked up the entirety of Warhammer 40k Conquest and Relic for $150 (incl shipping). FFG is losing the Warhammer license soon, and those puppies were priced to sell.

.... I just can't justify that shipping. I'd love to have several of the Dark Heresy books, but with that shipping, oh boy.

Books are heavy.. weight matters when it comes to shipping I'll never understand why so many threads have an incredible amount of "shipping is expensive" posts, as if the postal service was just invented or something.

All of my favorite online stores (Amazon, Cool Stuff, Miniature Market) all mitigate the cost of shipping. I rarely venture outside them, so even though $15 for shipping a bunch of board games isn't exactly an unfair cost, it's one that I don't generally have pay.

Shipping out of the USA always seems to cost a fortune compared to other RoW shipping.

Close to $60 in shipping for $15 worth in books.. Oh FFG, don't you ever change now!

Though I wonder.. will FFG put down the cost as $15 or will they include shipping as well on the shipping slip?

Which of the 40k RPG books are good to read from just a fluff perspective?

I have no time to get everyone to the table for a RPG, nor do I have the patience to plan the whole thing.

I do have plenty of free moments to stick my nose in a book.

Suggestions?

Thanks for the info!

Just ordered a bunch of the Dark Heresy books. I'd like to find the main rule book for version two. But I am honestly just buying these books for the background, since I've heard so many good things. So if I can't find it, no big deal.

My guess is that, since they're regular carrier customers, they can receive a lower shipping rate, which they hide into the price of the products. FFG doesn't ship out individual parcels as part of their regular business, so they pass on the costs to you.

(I think you already know that, but others might not.)

It's not just overseas shipping that expensive on that site. Thought about picking up a board game from the sale, and it was like $11.00 shipping from a few states away...essentially making it no cheaper than buying it off of Amazon or eBay.

All of them, seriously FFG produced by far the best 40K fluff in the last 20 years.

If you want to limit yourself though stick to one product line as they are set in their own individual sectors.

Because FFG's shipping is ridiculously expensive, and it's not due to weight (well, not only due to weight) but more to do with the lack of shipping deals/provisions they have with USPS. As they don't ship that much stuff, they don't qualify for better rates like a proper store would, so their shipping costs are astronomically high compared to most places.

Yup $5. Not sure if that would be more if because I am from Canada. Get it now while you can.

We've seen postage rates pretty much double since 2010. I worked for a company that pretty much ceased to be viable after the second or third postage rate hike.

I've enjoyed all the ones I've read. Standouts would be the Sisters one and ..uh, the one with all the aliens in it. I'm not good with the titles. I've heard great things about the IG book, but haven't read it myself.

As others have said there really aren't bad ones. I only know 40k through the RPG, don't play the minis game, and every book is enjoyable. If you only care about fluff just pick up the ones that cover topics you're interested in.
