What is going on with some of these FW models lately!? seems the models are just not up to the level they should be for sculpting? the Angelos head looks kinda like Ron Pearlman had a stroke! and the painting while it's 'good' it isn't what I'd expect from them either, it's way outside the usual feel for their models and appears more cartoony and not very complimentary at all.it actually puts me off investigating the models further when they don't draw you in.

Whoever their studio painter is now is just bad. Having seen this model unpainted, it is even more clear.

The armor is ok, but that face... awful.

He looks way too rosy-cheeked to be a 400-odd year old veteran space marine.
His nose is oddly red, like hes been drinking heavily for those four hundred years.

I don't think thier painter is bad, per se, just not capable of getting the character correct. The painter is clearly skilled at painting, the armour is all highlights and blending, but there are errors in judgement in critical areas, namely the face.

Imagine the armour with Nerdfest's Lorgar or Horus face-scheme, it'd be massively better.

On the plus side, his rules seem pretty fun, nothing spectacular but then nothing appalling either.

It's no award-winning job and definitely not fantastic judgement calls, but plainly technically competent, though that 360º makes it look like they didn't dust the model before shooting it.

And yeah, FW minis (esp. non-vehicles) have been fairly unimpressive recently...

Does Forgeworld actually have a studio painter? I always assumed the painted models they showed were from their personal collections, hence all the unpainted versions they show us.

as it stands im fairly sure the quality issue is actually because of some bean counter that wants to dumb down the quality to make it look like something "you" can do rather than infinity or warmahord style ball to the wall pro painted models.

Warmahordes models look usually pretty awful, imo. Now Infinity... those are absurdly good. Same with Knight models.

the new one has him in that armor.

His rules are fun, I was half-expecting something to represent his leaping attack, but the arcing swing attack is a nice one either way, though it lacks the invulnerability and knock-back of enemy projectiles.



And yes, he wears TERMINATOR ARMOUR now, because he's no longer a captain, but CHAPTER MASTER these days. I mean, gak man, do keep up with current events.

Forgeworld has definitely been putting out some turds lately, but they do a lot of other good work (it's all resin so it's nothing to me) so I can overlook the occasional crap mini. I think you could save it with an alternate head. --- or buy that alternate option which is far better looking.

I wonder if the head comes attached or not, as they've recently released a new skin of Gabriel with a Tartaros pattern helmet in place, which looks pretty ace on the model and would probably also look ace on the mini itself.

Yeah I hope they have some cool surprises there for the non-marine fans. Even if they reveal something cool for AdMech at least it would be cool to see something different.

Other than the head, it's fine. Amazing though, how even the DoWIII render looks better lol. If I were to buy him, I'd pray his head is separate. Would be a shame to have to mess about snipping it.

Given the collar height, I'd be pretty surprised if it was part of the body.
