The printed stuff looks impressive, the dragon especially! Looks like an intimidating painting project though..

Wow, that Necron construct is coming together great, excited to see the finished version.

The big construct is a fun project to fit in here and there, so it will be done eventually. In the mean time I found the .stl for the tomb sentinel (centipede thing). I printed 11 body segments and twelve sets of legs. The head is printing now. It’s base takes 8 hours, so it’s an overnight print.

In a minute of weakness I stopped by Miniaturemarket . Just at opening time is the best to find good priced dinged and dented stuff.

Not sure what I’m going to do with 80 Afghan Warriors . Probably join all the other boxes of stuff in the basement. But I wanted to see them first hand myself to gauge quality.

You're certainly pushing that printer hard with that dragon and big necron things. Prints look pretty good, looking forward to seeing the prints finished and painted up

Paint? You mean we are suppossed to paint these things .

Just got an Email this morning from Creality. The Ender 3 is on sale for $179 now . Do I buy another.....The wife would shoot me for all the filament I'd be using . But $20 ish bucks a month really isn't bad.

Printing a whole field of Lettuce right now. Oddly, it could be eddible, I'd have to look into it as the PLA Plus is made out of Corn .....im sure theres other chemicals in there that would make it unsuitable to eat though .

Starting to reprint models with my dialed in settings and throwing paint. Unsure of armor color right now.

Looks so much better than the previous prints. Just takes longer.

Need Focus.

Great stuff. Chinese expedition to Afghanistan to protect their Buddhis brethren? I've used these none western historicals for Frostgrave warbands. Add lasguns for Guardsmen. Antares space pirates?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. Print looks very good, green might also work as a contrast to the yellow mane and complementing the brown body of the steed.

Retyping as DakkaDakka crashed for a minute after I had submitted my last post.

Tried the Contrast Black Templar on the rider. I always had issues painting black and having no depth.

I think it turned out pretty well. I may use a spot green color for the eyes on the Komainu.

Reprint of the Kirin. I think the character riding this one will be a different color than the main army to show off his status. Also, I was going with it being white with a yellow energy mane, but I just painted the lower quality sculpt with Aethermatic blue and I'm liking it so far. I'll wait till tomorrow as thats always a good test for me to see things after they have had a chance to dry completely.

The start of the goldfish. Used contrast Gryph hound orange. The rider will get painted over as I was testing some contrast on it.

Some random terrain elements. The lettuce rows Iactually have three more double rows printed and primed to make a field. The big bush has lots of layer lines, but I still think it's alright for basic terrain. The fallen tree will most likely get based and some moss used to help bulk out the terrain piece. The stump needs some more brown to it.

Thanks for stopping in.

I'm loving the big bright colours. Beautiful stuff. Kirin is going to look cracking.

Thanks mate. Wanted a little more color and the high fantasy setting is just the spot.

Slinky wrote:The newer prints do seem much sharper - What did you change?

The slicer I use (cura 3.6.0) is a very basic one as I only have a chromebook so I cannot download a better program that'll work for me. In this slicer there are 3 preset quality print levels: Draft, Normal, Best. It also allows you to set two custom programs or add small adjustments to the three existing ones (but only on a one time basis before reverting back). So many of the prints I did were done with the Best setting previously. I have since changed and made a Custom setting of my own borrowing greatly from others over in my 3D print blog here and from reading more and more articles online. Also finding a quality filament (Esun PLA+) and finding the sweet spot with it is helping as well.

So things that I changed.
1. Printing everything on a raft. more time consuming, but it means the prints are holding better to the print bed, less wiggle, better overall print.
2. lowered the temperature. I had been printing at 220Celsius nozzle temperature and 60C bed temp. Changed both to 198C and 50C respectively. less oozing and stringing. Plus the prints pop off the bed easier.
3. Bought a magnetic build plate by accident a while ago. It has made taking off prints so simple. small change, but fussing with clips and a scrapper messed up a few prints early on.
4. Print density. Might change this up higher, but most things were getting only a 5% infill, now I'm doing mostly 10% (Larger Terrain is still only 5%) this helps the beefiness of thinner parts.
5. Can't remember exactly what i did with the supports, I think I reduced support thickness a tad which has helped with damage being left from clipping them off.

so lots of tiny changes, and as usual I didn't take notes.

Anyway, new morning, I think I like the Aethermatic blue I painted the lower quality Kirin with. What do you guys think?

Well Aku-Chan, if you liked him before, what do you think now that he has a bit more done to him?

And if you don’t like him then I suggest you 3D print a bridge and get over it like me

Returning to work tomorrow, so naturally printing, slicing and priming prints ahead of time. I bought the other two bundles of the Dragon Empire from Titan Forge, so I have been busy slicing away this morning and prepping longer prints to start when I leave for work so they will be done when I get home.

Up on the menu.
The dragon Cavalry
Terrain pieces including walls
Oni

Off to prime the figures I’ve done yesterday and today so far. Maybe a pic later.

Goldfish rider is really just too much fun for me . A silly thing that has turned out better than I had hoped, glad others are enjoying him as well.

Couple more prints painted up. The monk did not turn out as good as other prints sadly.

Still a cool concept and I think at least tabletop playable.

Oni girl is doing well, different designer, so not to same style, but good enough in my book.

Printed today while I was at work. 11 hours for the body, 1.5 hours on the head. Dragon cavalry. There’s riders whho fit on the spines of these guys. I didn’t know that they could be printed without the rider, so the two sculpts could also make war machines or big beasts.

Thanks for stopping by.

I need to pick up some more contrast paints for these prints.

Saw the news and Rumors thread. Still chewing on it. Love the concept, but the practicality of printing an entire game is daunting. I’m already printing all these Dragon Empire figs to have a KoW army and paint.

The style of the Dragonbond stuff is close to what I want, but not right on. Also the figs really lend themselves to a resin printer, so many thin with hole parts. The dragons would easily work, but most are generic fantasy ones and i am more Asian inspired style.

Still might be worth it, I have a little while yet for the early bird if I do it.

Thanks for spending my money

Edit: quick catch up on other things printed in the last couple days. If there ever is a printer revolution I will be sent to jail for not giving mine a break .
Some of the dozens of scenery parts from the Dragon Empire bundle.

They have a locking mechanism to clip them together but allows it to be modular. The one looks upside down as the wood pattern is different, but it’s actually designed that way as each part has a finished back side as well. Pictured here.

Lots more walls Tom print eventually
A 4”x4” roof to eventually go on an outside wall.

An outside wall with gate area that an Oni is storming. Warlord games/Wargames Factory masked man defending and a Ronin with Kenabo(though he looks like a half Oni as he has a horn and is very bulky.

Body of a second dragon and the body of a rider also completed.

I have another of the first dragon printing now, should be finished when I get home tonight. I’ll have to print the heads for them and the spear for the rider at some point. I like that the dragons backs are finely detailed and the riders just sit on top. No having to scrape off saddle details or straps.
