Some call me crazy, some call me mad, some call me Damo, some call me Nerd, some call me repetitive but I think mad might be most appropriate since i'm attempting to paint 4 Howling Griffon tanks at once yep, 2 Rhino's a Razorback and a Landraider

I've started by quartering them all and have done the first two layers of highlight on the red parts. Only issue I had was when I was quartering the Landraider last I accidentally did the wrong quarters in the wrong colours I can laugh now but at the time I was not a happy man!

so here's the WIP.

I'm not scared of pods i've just never had any luck with them in the (what is now? 7 games in nearly 20 years?) games i've played having them land on things or even scatter right off the table, all 3 of them against a giggling Eldar player

I didn't get a chance to do heaps today so maybe tomorrow I'll show you more red progress I also really like how the reds turn out, I mean, you can see slight brush strokes and the blending isn't glass smooth but as a whole it hits the eye and looks good enough so i'll continue on i'm really looking forward to doing the troops and Terminators especially as I am going to splash out and get the series 2 collector Japanese release models for the Termies then convert them to have whatever weapons I want!

So, fun story but night before last at 4am my wife's let the dogs out for a wee from our bedroom doors (that go into the yard) then not 5 seconds later she's screaming and telling me to get up! turns out the dogs had raced straight out and nailed themselves one of the biggest brushtail possums i'd seen! so there I was in my undies running across the yard in the dark when it was zero degrees to try and wrench a rather angry large marsupial from the jaws of three large hounds while the Dachshund kept just running in to try and grab a bite I managed quickly to get it and tried to get it over the fence to safety but just my luck it hit the fence and dropped back into the yard to be snatched and dispatched by William and boy is he strong when he want to be i've been off work this week with asthma and a chest infection and trying for 10 minutes to pull a possum from just about killed me, ended up on my back trying to wrestle his jaws open to no avail! it took my wife shaking a container of food to distract him.

so, probably not a fun story but certainly a story.

Drop pods are garbage tier in 8th edition anyways.

I wish we had video of the possum incident. I bet it was fantastic to watch.

You haven't played in a while, have you Damo? Drop pods haven't been able to scatter off the table for a long time now...

Have pods ever been able to scatter off the table? I thought that was pretty much the main reason for taking them?


The smallest of our 3 cats likes to fight with the possum that lives in the gum in our back yard. You can hear the bloody thing doing that weird huffing bark they make when ever the cat has a go at it. I'm just glad the neither of the dogs care enough about it. If they did we'd have dead wild life littering our yard. Bloody terriers.

Yeah, they couldn't scatter into units or impassable terrain, but could go off the edge.

Finished the reds on the vehicles and they look snazzy really keen to get them finished, I think they'll look impressive rolling towards heretics!

Yellows next, which is a bit faster method and then the time consuming details like metals and things

Glows is an apt description. They yellows are much the same once they're done up proper as well.

I hope so Monkey! I have not seen a big HG army before or at least not since the 90's where there was a few features on them which may have lodged them in my brain :-)

Moar Howling Griffons! I got the armour all done, the reds and yellows all ready for the details I have a feeling that those parts will take me longer

i'm really loving how they look, nice and bright but at the same time not bright they're not perfectly blended and a close examination may look wonky in spots but i'm thinking that's because I've been looking at them up close for the last couple of days

I finished the Landraider, Razorback and two rhino's today and they all look fanawesomely excellent next to the Vindi and Pred already done but my pics of everything were too blurry to use sorry dudes
you'll just have to be happy with a bunch of other images of the rolling thunder that is my Howling Griffons armoured fist!











So there you go! not a bad day for my Birthday which I also got as a present a new Sanctum Imperialis building AND the Killteam rulebook!!! i'm a lucky Nerd I've just got to wait for a decent little commission to land and do that next so stay tuned into channel N09

HOLY TERRA, nerdfest! Everything is amazing about your HGs - really beautiful red and yellow quartering, and the Terminator Commander’s face is incredibly lifelike.

One of my favourite ever issues of White Dwarf was 309, which featured a Howling Griffons army by John Cadice. I just remembered and went to find it... I’m looking at it now, such fond memories. I used to take this issue with me when I went away (it’s a bit worn out), it’s such a stunning army! Thirteen years younger me wondered just how the hell one was supposed to paint such a monumental force of The Emperor’s finest

One thing that they didn’t do was paint the quartering on the tanks, as they thought it looked a little strange. They instead painted it on the doors. However, I would say that your approach at painting the vehicles is super cool and in your face, just as Space Marines should be!

Keep up The Emperor’s work, nerdfest! These guys deserve a showcase in a future White Dwarf, too

Those are magnificent looking. The fact that you can belt out that many tanks so quickly, to such a high standard is both astounding and outstanding.

To be honest, I was kind of hoping the weapon casings on the landraider and razorback would get painted metal like the predator sponsons, but when they look like that it's hard to niggle at!

Nerd, your paintwork is masterful, and even that term doesnt begin to state how truly amazing those tanks turned out. Yellow and Red being two of the hardest colors to paint well, especially on large flat surfaces, just goes to show how much talent and skill you've got tucked up your sleeves. Awww thanks guys, I had a great day and enjoyed a home made cheesecake and even (heaven forbid!) got 40K stuff from my wife!! first time for everything! I got a building and the core rules for KillTeam :-)

I started another commission yesterday and am already heaps into it! but it's late so no pics for you until tomorrow!

I hear you like WIP updates!? well, I have a whole bunch for you!

firstly i'll show you the Genestealer cult I got to paint 2 days ago! about 48 mini's plus characters. So far I primed and base coated and then started work earnestly on the armour and weapons, I wanted a look that reflects the dwelling they lurk in, dirty and slightly damp so the look of them isn't decrepit but merely lived in and suffering the effects of living underground worshipping the 4 armed god!

Next up i'll blackwash the recesses again and define them a bit more then start on the skin of them. You can see how i've slightly darkened the purple tones as they get further from human which also makes them easier to see at a glance

Next a very beginning test scheme for Red Scorpions for Whaley, Grey isn't a strong one for me so i'm approaching them slowly as I research some differing ways to do it.



And my Librarian for my Howling Griffons representing Mercaeno and his force axe!



And here's the start of my new terrain that I got from my wife for my birthday! it doesn't look too impressive yet as i'm really feeling the model out as I go I want a pseudo marble look to pillars and gilt windows. I finished the actual statues and stands separately and they're ready to rock.
