How does it, though? I'm not too knowledgeable about Necron lore, but i was under the impression that they are already active within the galaxy for the most part. They aren't all awakened, but i can't think of anything that implies they're watching the galaxy and waiting for the right moment to appear, they're already there - just not all of them.

The same goes for the T'au, as much as i'd like it to be them, they aren't just watching the Galaxy and waiting, they're already there and taking part in what's going on. The way this is worded implies some sort of outside threat that has just been biding their time until things were suitable for them to arrive, not something that's already in some way active.

If it was just a Codex for one of the already known races, then it wouldn't class as a huge, unexpected announcement.

The cron's machines have been watching the galaxy since their sleep. The Canopteks. Some crons have been awake a long time because they woke up far before they were supposed to.

Aren't they just watching over the Necron Tomb Worlds themselves, they aren't looking out into the wider galaxy and keeping an eye on things, are they? This implies something that's watching the galaxy as a whole and weren't around before now. It doesn't really fit any of the races or factions we know of.

 Formosa wrote:

They haven't watched, they haven't waited, they have been active and waking for centuries now.

In fact this doesn't really fit any of the current races, tau haven't been watching and waiting, they have been actively attacking and expanding.

I think this is one of the two new races

Two new races? This is the first i've heard of that, where were two mentioned?

Here's a wild thought what if the hive mind was not invading the universe/galaxy but fleeing from something in terror so strong that it causes the shadow in the warp/local psychics go insane.

Might explain why after all this time the "main body" of nids has never arrived and why the splinter fleets are so piece meal. The hive mind is dead and the splinter fleets are acting upon the dying echoes.

Now what ever has terrorised the nids has been watching and waiting to make a move on this universe. What it could be who knows off the top of my head I can think of a few things that have potential and could be cool in no particular order.

A fully living and powered ctan with his client race army.
The 2 missing Primarchs and there highly advanced empire.
A subsect of pre fall elder who avoided the cataclysmic end of there race, maybe a long forgotten expansion fleet or somthing that has not only avoided decline but continued to advance.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

I'm very curious to see what this ends up being.

It's going to be one of two things:

-I get pleasantly surprised at a new faction/race/army and see 40k's universe expand...

-I get to see the outrage from plenty of people because GW put a lot of hype on something we've already had

I'll say this again and it has been repeated multiple times across many GW sources.

All 20 Primarchs were found and all 20 participated in the Great Crusade. FWIW one of them went missing when he lead an expedition to some big arse Necron space obelisk near Solemnace (the site of Trazyn's museum) according to one Fulgrim.

It's going to be Custodes. People saying otherwise are setting themselves up for disappointment, just like people did over malign portents.

Meh. Leaning towards just an announcement of necron codex.

They were largely left out of Gathering Storm/Dark Imperium narrative, so it could be their reaction to chaos wrecking the galaxy.

From the latest Fabius Bile novel- Clonelord.

How would Custodes be a "huge announcement" though? We already know they're part of the galaxy and are active again, so this wouldn't fit with them as it implies it's a new, previously unseen thing that's only just joining in. They haven't been "watching and waiting", either - their whole job was to Guard things, which they were doing.

Speaking of. Wasn't one of the Primarch rumors that The Lion would come in a Triumvirate along with Dante (Or another redone Blood Angel) and an as of yet unnamed Imperial Character?

Trajann could easily fit that slot, especially with the Lions on his armor, there'd be a thematic fit. And a Custodes Army, The Lion, and a new Campaign would definitely fit in as "HUGE" compared to just announcing 3 new codexes (That's basically just Next Tuesday in this rapid fire release environment!)

RG did chastise the Custodes for not doing more and only watching while the galaxy went to crap.

Yes, they have been more active since they got a talk'n to, but they still had their "really cool" stuff locked up in a vault. Maybe they're breaking the seals and dusting off the old Jetbikes, Grav Tanks, and Dreadoughts.

It'll be the first time they're playable as a stand alone force in 40k (I think). This is exactly why people are gonna be raging tomorrow. We know Custodes are coming so thats one line down. Have they been watching and waiting? yep. Looking any deeper into that is just wishful thinking.

I have fun either way so knock yourself out mate.

I'd be pretty livid if it was a new army. We've got so many factions with absolutely ancient model lines and a whole host of rules that need to be written.

The last thing 8th needs is even less focus.

As cool as it would be to get a new faction, I would rather all existing factions be brought into the modern era by completely phasing out metal and finecast models. No hopeful of that, though.

As far as we know, the only C'Tan that wasn't captured and shattered was the Void Dragon, who is all but confirmed to be the World Dragon imprisoned by the Emperor, which means the Machine Spirit is actually a C'Tan.

Doing Custodes before finishing the existing codexes would bring some serious flak though, so I'm not so sure.

It is highly unlikely that it is something completely new and unheard. The teaser made me think Necrons, though there probably should be something more than just the new codex to warrant the fanfares. Could be bunch of new models like the Death Guard had. New plastic C'tan or something. Personally I hope it's not that, Necrons are the most boring faction in 40K.

Custodes seems possible, we know that they're gonna get some new stuff.

I really, really hope it is the Inquisition, though that seems unlikely. SoB would be the best news ever of course, but that doesn't fit the text at all.

Custodes are already playable in 40k though. They aren't new in any way shape or form. As a matter of fact they have been screaming for an HQ to be playable and GW has already shown him off so I doubt its custodes.

Edit
GW has confirmed malign portents is just the start for AoS and that there will be multiple new model lines launched on facebook this year for AoS. I don't know why people thought that would instantly reveal the undead army when its clearly the years event.

No reason they can't do both. Especially in the "Gathering Storm" or "Wrath of Magnus" way of doing a campaign.
