For me the problem here isn't that Custodes are getting a full army, it's that this specific teaser is for Custodes, if that is the case. The wording of the teaser is a bit of a stretch to be Custodes, which is why this is a disappointment - it implied something entirely different, these don't really fit in with the "watching and waiting" thing that well.

I don't quite see how this is a huge announcement, either. We already knew they were getting new model and they're already a playable faction, so were obviously getting a new codex.

This is the second time in a week that GW have disappointed me with a guy in golden armour.
Oh well, good for those who've been waiting for a more fleshed out force.

Why are you assuming a leaking of a box who someone took a picture of must be related to their "big announcement" though?

There can very well be an actual big announcement that is unrelated to custard, and this new upcoming kit is a different thing.

I doubt the open day only has one thing going.

custodes was my first guess, and it seems that it was correct.
The custodes have watched over the emperor and waited for 10,000 years without doing anything.
Couple that with the figure shown for 100,000 likes on Facebook and the February white dwarf hint and I am surprised anyone thought it would be anything else.
There is a little part of my heart that hopes that every announcement will be Eldar Exodites or AOS Aelves, but reality is never kind.

If they do Custodes, i hope the codex is properly fleshed out and doesn't just feel like an Imperium supplement book. As some people have said, making it Codex: Talon of the Emperor might work.

Custodes fit perfectly with watching and waiting. I get wanting something more interesting (my kingdom for Exodites) but you're really reaching there.

Hopefully the Quality of the release will justify it. It's possible that these power armoured dudes are a very interesting and unique faction.

There's already a major "elite power armor" faction, and that's Grey Knights. I don't know how interesting GW can make a second faction like this beyond giving them some nice looking models.

It is a pretty big reveal. Have you seen any of the comment threads on anything custodes related? It’s literally 50% if the comments asking for the faction to be moved into 40k. If they actual make it into a full fledged faction then that will be answering a pretty large request.

I agree...Grey Knights and Custodes....lame to release yet another uber armored human faction......

I'm doubtful aswell. Ontop of that, I don't play marines of any flavour either, but it's always a possibility that GW can make something much more appealing and compelling than any previous release. No matter how unlikely I might think it is.

The way the teaser is worded implies that it's referring to watching the galaxy as something they were purposefully doing while waiting to return, and the Custodes certainly weren't "waiting" for anything, they were doing their job in protecting Terra and also Custodes are already out there active within the Galaxy again, so this teaser would be referring to something that's already happened as if it's a new thing, if it is Custodes. It could mean "They have watched" as in Watching the Emperor, but that still wouldn't explain the "They have waited" part.

It depends on your tastes. Personally I find the grey knights ridiculous after they added the dread knight, and the Custodes are a bit of a chance to quietly restart the elitenpower armor army idea and execute it (hopefully) with a bit more taste.

They will certainly get different options than the grey knights (eventually) what with jet bikes and a ton of dread options (through granted probably only one will get translated to plastic)

Im happy to see the custodes out. It and notmal humans are really the only aspects of the Imperium Im interested in getting releases for, and at least normal humans are getting necromunda kits for kit bash possibilities.

But I'd also love to see a new minor xeno faction go major taking advantage of that dark imperium rift.

Unless we’re about to see an invasion of Terra, as suggested earlier in the thread. In that case, they’ve waited for an attack for a while.

Honestly I don't expect a new faction until GW has released all the current ones - it would be daft to add a new 40K faction now when there are already several waiting for codex; not to mention the production pressure GW is already under.

Heck Sisters and several other armies still have models in finecast and ripe for plastic versions.

It would be good to see a new xeno; but I don't expect we'll see one until well past half way this year, even if GW has one in the works.

That retcon happened about 15 years ago, it is way older than the Sigmarines.

Um... no. They had revised artwork in the HH card game 2003 and the Visions books and Dave Taylors conversions were shown in WD 2004/5(?).

Indeed, it was white fwarf edition 300 with a big special on converting custodes (who by then were the giant super demi gods of war who looked down upon the astartes) that got me into 40k at all.

This has been the status quo for the Custodes for a long time.

I love how this forum jumps to assumptions based on a picture of a box. Like the news of a big announcement was under 12hrs ago, a pic of a custodes box appears after it and suddenly no hype just pure disappointment?

It's not gonna be just a Custodes release. That wouldn't make sense given the 'big announcement' they hinted.

I think that is based off of the Custodes box image, the GW announcement a few month back that they would be expanding the Custodes (HQ minimum), and the White Dwarf apparently has a lot of gold on the back (here-say though, haven't seen it myself). But we won't know for sure until tomorrow when they announce what it is, and even if it is Custodes, there is always the possibility that they surprise us with something interesting beyond just pretty models.

People have been speculating about future releases for more than 4 hours. Though yeah, everything is over-dramatised on the internet. They can still be disappointed in Games Workshop either way.

I have my helium tank and mask ready in case it's a Custard's reveal.

"They are watching" sounds fairly Cuckstodes-esque, but "they are coming" with a blank field of stars sounds too otherworldy for it to be them imo.

I'm sure if you go on custodes related threads you will find that people want to play them in all the games. Not really surprising. It's a big reveal for those people who play, and are interested in, custodes.

From what I've gathered Xenos players in general aren't happy about the releases of codexes and models so far. If the custodes box is to believed as the reveal they are intending tomorrow I suspect it will backfire impressively. I for one would hope for something more interesting than "sparkly marines". As people have stated is there even a want for them? We have good marines, bad marines, new marines, psychic marines, viking marines, vampire marines, mysterious marines, infected marines and now gold sparkly super marines? There's only do many marines the market needs and I'd say we're already saturated.
