They fought with sisters of silence alone against limitless daemons for years with only few casualties. They fight well enough as an army alright.

None of the Space Marine Contemptor's have gone away since the plastic one came out with BaC. Why would FW discontinue the Custodes versions?

Really? I thought they were just guards. So terra has about 10,000 or so Custodes on it? Makes sense I guess, it is a big palace.

Guards, Emperor's bodyguard fighting where he was fighting or where he ordered. Plus as backup in case space marines needs to be dealt with(and with new fluff likely the final solution to remnants of space marines if things had gone as Emperor planned)

I.. am so excited. Daemons then Thousand Sons? My poor bank account! I may have missed it but was there a schedule for the release? I presume Custodes first then Thousand Sons in February. Which is super weird because I made a post on the Warhammer Facebook page saying that... seems the Changer of Ways is working in my favour (for now). Birthday present for meeeee haha

To be fair - there are about 10,000 and certainly more than any Space Marine Chapter and we have how mnay codexes for them.

However releasing some Xenos Codexs would have been much more welcome and then some Sisters (of both kinds)

Agreed. New models are always nice (I'm sure as hell excited for the Custodes) but at this pace GW are starting to risk alienating xenos players.

Pfft, real fans only need 1 new model every 20 years.

Alienating Xenos players? Nice

There's only a few Imperium forces left though, so once they hammer through those we will get a whole lot of aliens, I think.

Welp, color me 100% disappointed. I want to do a Custodes army but I was totally expecting something else. Seems only marine armies will get updates but that's not even entirely true. Thousand Sons get their codex finally and zero new models. Just rules for two non-thousand son marine models from AoS getting ported over.... So I dont know what to do with my 1k Sons army because I dont like the idea of playing the same small army for years and it's still nearly impossible to play an actual fluffy Thousand Sons army due to small model count.

These models are really good, but that is just too much gold. Particularly in the big army pic it just looks garish. I think they'd look better with black armour; they've been occasionally depicted in such colours in some art.

Really disappointing. The last thing GW needs to be doing is throwing yet more super elite marine style armies into the mix when so many other factions and sub-factions go without decent book or model support, including within the Imperium. The models look nice, but they're definitely not what we need right now, I'm just feeling so inundated with marines, and it's getting really boring.

What factions don't have model support?

Sisters of fething battle. Inquisition could use some serious love too. Eldar are also running a good selection of models older than a large chunk of the playerbase (although on the positive side, I guess I can use some of those new Custode biker lances to convert some shining spears, because they'll likely never get a new model anyway).

Well FW needs to release him anyway as he's usable in 30k.

Besides when has current status of live or dead mattered? GW games are FULL of characters dead that have rules and models.

Funny I said 2017 would almost be exclusively Marine dexes and it was and various people shouted that that was fine - as they "others" would get theirs in due time

betting Space Wolves next. World Eaters, and Emperors Children oh and then maybe a Primaris dex and then Space Marines vesion 2 (same as they did in 7th ed) - maybe a couple of Xenos dexes in between but screw the rest.

I know I'm not up to date on all things, but aren't Primaris marines restricted from riding in Land Raiders? But Custodes who are the same size plus carrying 9-foot spears can?

Funnily enough, Black Custodes were a thing.
IIRC, they wore black after the Emperor was interred into the Golden Throne, and only started to wear gold again recently. So you can totally paint your custodes black and it still be fluffy. Just say your custodes are still in mourning.

Hahha that is exactly what I thought looking at that picture.

Annnnywho, am I the only one who thinks this is a utter letdown, was really hoping for one of the new factions they teased in the sneek peeks before 8th dropped, if this is one of those races, I feel even more letdown.

Well, it makes sense in that it's a GW designed rule. Which is to say confusing and altered on a whim and a theory that is not followed across armies.

I like them!

Side benefit?

Apparently we’ll never hear from a certain Xenos player ever again.

I mean, he wouldn’t go back on his word, would he?

Oh man that's awesome. It could be led by Doctarian. All their transports would be blue (and bigger on the inside).

I'm not so sure World Eaters and Emperors Children will get their own stuff in the foreseeable future. I also think GW has learned a bit and won't release a second Space Marine codex before at least the Xenos stuff is released.

But Space Wolves are definitely going to be a thing and would be a very good opportunity for Leman Russ to come out of the warp (or wherever he is) and be like "sup"...
