No news about AoS 2.0?

About a new rulebook, no info but Storm of Magic 2.0.

But about a new starter set ; YES ! Content is pretty much confirmed now :

We heard before Adepticon (notably from Moonstone on TGA) that the set would be :

- Stormcast Eternals Sacrosanct / Ruination Chamber (notably a new SCE Wizard unit) vs Nighhaunt Death army ;

Also, since MP, a Nighthaunt "full" army was hinted at, notably because of the Knight of Shrouds, and because of a new Black Coach rumor.

With this video, a new Black Coach almost confirmed : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upNYiJks28I

The WarCom article talks about "the Legions of Shiysh", so I guess it's more about a new army than just a new unit.

Speaking of new units, the Shadespire next warbands teaser showed, guess what :

- 1 card with a new ghost on it (Hangman), with a new Faction logo (top right), probably Nighthaunt (same as the Knight of Shourds base), and ;
- 1 card with new stormcast types on it, wizard-y looking (conic helmet, magic staff), with also a new Faction logo looking like a Rumor engine, and the Lord-Ordinator kneepad.

Knowing that the first two WHU warbands for "Shadespire : Season 1" were from the Starter set armies, plus all of the above, the 2 next AOS releases (army speaking) are IMO 99.99% Nighhaunt and Wizard Stormcast - fitting the new starter set rumor.

And if a new starter set comes, then the rumored AOS 2 rulebook should come too.

Thankfully the deepkin really don't do anything for me and I have no interest in them, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Nighthaunt stuff is coming.

yeah but again, why don't the other army drown??? And why are the idoneth infantry walking??

Because... magic? It's a game, dude. Use a little imagination and come up with any number of different reasons. Maybe the Idoneth mages cast an area spell that allows the fish things to breathe and swim through air as though it were water. The spell only targets specific units, so the Infantry still walk and the opponent is left untouched. I'm an "infantry" person. I'm capable of swimming, but also capable of walking. Presumably, the Idoneth infantry are walking because... they're on land.

If you can't handle the concept of a flying land shark, I'm not sure how you handle the other thousand things in the game that don't exist in the real world. Animated skeletons? Fine. Teleporting tree people? Fine. A giant elf with a bat wings and a half snake body. Fine. Flying sharks? No, man. That's crazy. Everyone knows that sharks can't fly.

I always find this strange. Do you have a problem with skeletons walking despite not having muscles or ligaments? How about demons which are creates of pure magic? Why draw the line here?

Easy enough to fabricate some lore for GW:

Domain of the Abyss: Deepkin mages have become attuned to the winds of magic of their nautical home and possess the knowledge to transport this magic to the mortals realms. Powerful spells bind Deepkin armies in magical fields which allow their massive sea mounts to levitate, as if suspended in oceanic currents. So long as the magic fields stay intact even the larges sea monsters can pass the border from the deep into the terrestrial domain.

Boom done.

Even that doesn't work as an explanation, cuz guess which spell the enemy would "dispel" first.

Lore vs game-play mechanic is not necessarily a fair comparison. Demons technically materialized from the warp, yet someone facing a demon army can't just say, "let's cast banish on the whole force".

Of course it does. Otherwise you could never have had Vampire Counts, Tomb Kings or any army based on spell animation or manipulation. Because the enemy could just "dispel it first".

Exactly. There has always been a huge amount of warhammer that works because of magic. Why is this such a problem now? Tzeentch screamers are essentially flying but I haven’t seen any complaints about them. What keeps a Tzeentch disc up? The vast majority of fantasy dragons do not have bodies that would be able to fly in nature. Japanese dragons look very similar to the eels from the Deepkin release in fact. It is welll established that it is magic that enables them to fly.

When there first was rumours that these models would look like they were 'swimming through air' i was afraid that they would look dumb, but they don't; they look fantastic! It is mostly the magic beasts that are 'swimming' while the elves themselves stand normally (and most importantly, don't have mermaid tails!)

Meh. Too much of a focus on elves for my taste. I had hoped for more emphasis on deep sea critters, but it looks like all of those are mounts. Maybe a shark or eel mught find its way into my collection, for conversions. Going to wait for the 360s for that.

I like the giant spiky skull, though.

We don't know enough to tell just yet about Idoneth, but that example is, or at least was before anything goes AoS, not correct. You had daemonic possession, which like any other form of magic item, couldn't just be dispelled because it was anchored to a physical form, and likewise as manifested warp energy, the background usually pointed out that magical/warp energy in the region was strong enough at the time to sustain a legion of daemons walking about, implicitly ruling out simply dispelling them.

Maybe it'll be handwaved away as Idoneth having such a strong source of magic to sustain their flying fishies that they can't be dispelled. Maybe the writers didn't even consider this question. It's kind of moot until the battle tome is out and we actually have their background available to us.

However, saying lore versus game play is not a fair comparison is... bold? As if we shouldn't care about the consistency of the world (especially with GW's continued attempt of focusing on the narrative over quality rules)? I mean, it's a newly created setting without past background to weigh it down and thus entirely in the hands of the designers/writers. If they can't fit a rule to the background, they can fit the background to the rule. There's really no excuse for brushing over things because magic exists. Even that has to abide by rules or it turns the setting entirely meaningless.

Just for the record, I don't have a problem with flying sharks.

Yeah but dispelling undeads would be WAY less funny that just dispelling that one spell and have all the fish just falling and trying to swim back in the air. The mental images are so hilarious that I hope there is some game mechanic to do just that .

I'm simply in love with the characters and monsters. I have a feeling one of those characters is going to be a priest (or an oracle) rather than a wizard. The ordinary infantry don't inspire any particular feelings. I hope we're going to get another infantry option that is more in line with the mounted soldiers.

I'm not liking the physical representation of spells and where it might lead. I hope I'm mistaken, but that appears to me at first glance a really dangerous can of worms. Although, if it's optional it won't have any effect on my games.

I'm not really a fan, I find the designs don't really seem to go well together. The armor types/designs look like they are all over the place.
Eels are just terrible mounts. Imagine the eel actually swimming through the air, it's body undulating back and forth, and the rider on back whipping side to side... It is just ridiculous.
Because of the dual kit constraints the skysharks have the wrong body shape.

On the positive side, taken individually several of the kits look really great. The infantry kit looks like the best of the bunch with the infantry only sharing torsos and heads (are they trying to support the bits resellers?? Why do a dual kit at all??). Water cloak guy is breathtaking, and really makes me wish the rest were similar in style to him. Seahorse pirate looks cool, but his mount looks like it is about to flop down, I think he should have been flying.

That's because there's two distinctive races it looks like. There's the "purebreeds" that look Aelven and then there's what looks to be a servitor/"lesser" race.

Sharks are their own kit. They're bigger than the eels by a bit.

There's two different kits for infantry it looks like. There's a set of spears/glaives and then the archers.

I really like the greek-atlantean guys riding the barracudas, and the guy with the Octopus holding a knife. I also like the guy in the water-cape, it reminds me of Age of Mythology, and the female spellcaster that has his eyes closed.

Well, I started writting this pots as a "I like a couple of sculpts but not many parts of the range" but, in a second thought, the only thing I don't like is the bald elf with the chimes and the thrall-like white elves without eyes.

I thought they were inspired by that Doctor Who Christmas episode that riffed on A Christmas Carol where the Doctor was on a planet where fish swam/flew around in the air. They even had a flying shark they hitched up to a cart. I thought the special effects in that one were really well done and it looked perfectly natural to see goldfish and minnows flittering around a streetlamp like moths. Sorry, too lazy to look up a clip.

Man, I'm just in love with everything. Deepkin, upcoming card game, more ShadeSpire and a starter box with both sides being useful to me.

Even the magic death ball looks awesome.

Gonna be grabbing those spartan aelves up especially, pure badass!

(And as for the dispel thing, the lore leak mentioned they do it before they raid so the spell is likely too potent to stop at that point an enemy army can even assemble to fight. Much less if it's a demigod of the ocean casting it, probably easier for a wizard to fight the tide with a bucket.)

I just can't get over how people find flying metal boats forgivable, not one but numerous flying continents across different realms entirely fine, but fish that fly is just too much. I know it's a bit pretentious but that is just so funny to me.
