This is literally like McDonalds bringing back szechuan sauce for rick and morty fans. I wouldn't plan on it being anything more than that.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

When we first see the Squat clock, it's at 5:05.
Then, when we see it again as they pick it up to reset it, it's at 12:05.

Make of that what you will.

What I make of that is that the times shown on the clockfaces are irrelevant, since they simply lifted three or four clocks from a cupboard somewhere to use as props for a gag.

I have sigs turned off.

Actually, it means GW thinks people constantly spamming their FB posts asking for plastic Sisters minis are the butt of some jokes.

I'm glad they were willing to have fun with that video - AND glad to get a Squat again, even if it is only one.

Having a squat 40k army is still unlikely. However, at least we know what GW thinks the modern 40k Squat would look like. I think I can get on board with this.

Well, it's what Forge World think a lone Squat bounty hunter in the Underhive of Necromunda looks like. it could bear as much resemblance to a possible 40k force as an Escher ganger does to a Cadian Guardsman.

Squats and other abhumans (including catgirls!) have been officially mentioned in the last two rulebooks.

I don't really know why they don't just reuse the Overlords for 40k with some new sprues as they did with Tzeentch Beastmen.

A lot of the weapons are already 40k, the airships are pretty 40k. Its all done except some background and stats.

I'm sure there will be more Necromunda revealed at the Horus Heresy and Necromunda weekender this weekend.
Maybe even an initial/early stage sculpt? We saw pretty sure they showed an early part of Valdor last year....

Soo stats for a Squat - likely Toughness 4 - anything else we think will be part of their nature that is reflected in the rules?

Probably strength 3, high cool, low initiative, good combat stats and maybe a bolt pistol as a starting weapon.

Its unlikely they would be S4. S4 is marine territory, and dwarves were only S3 in WHFB.

Make of that what you will.

Also, if the clocks reset every time someone made a request for those specific models, SoB would not be 5 to 12? It seems like they get requested quite often so they would essentially be 12 o'clock on the dot, almost all the time.

Good Cl and Wp, low M, decent combat stats (he is a bounty hunter, after all). He's got a bolt pistol and that backpack with the scanner bit sticking out, so some fancy gear. heavy armour, too.

As a named character S4 is possible - also Necromnda already has S4 basic human gangers with Goliaths so they could make the Squats S4 T4 (or even T5)

Squats were unusually durable and did have tougher stats way back when. They were, well, Squat and quite thickly built. High gravity worlds would also make them stronger on lower gravity worlds.

My thoughts...

The release of a single Squat miniature (not including the sci-fi version of the White Dwarf) is a watershed moment.

The single miniature will be a thermometer for how sales may go.

If sales are absolutely mental, it may lead to a few other Necromunda Squats... possibly a whole gang.

I doubt very much if it will herald a return of the Squats to WH40K in any meaningful way (other than, maybe being able to use your Necromunda gang as auxiliaries for Astra Militarum).

The Tsangor idea is very cool. Many people are proxying Kharadron Overlords as Squats by swapping out the arms for marine scouts/cadian AM, so a sci-fi sprue would be an excellent idea (especially because it could also be used for existing Squat miniatures that don't have arms... at a push)... maybe with some sci-fi heads to go with the arms/weapons.

I am really happy with the news of a new Squat miniature. It may not come to anything more than a single Squat... but it is definitely a welcome change from GW.

I'm not sure why people think they wouldn't do a squat army for 40k -they have brought back genestealer cults, Harlequins, Death Watch and Custodes. They have shown a willingness to draw upon their own older history to do compact releases of more fringe forces and the Kharadrons have shown that they can do alternative dwarf types well AND there is a market for them. They are looking for new things to bring to market, Squats redone would be perfect- they have a history, a following.. its a no-brainer provided they can update them and do something cool with them, which the way they are going seems highly likely...

And that history also states they are on the brink of extinction with only a few of them in the guard or as mercenaries. They also don't have access to their production capabilities and their equipment. Giving them back such capabilities would be a huge retcon and cause too much of an overlap with the admech and the astartes, and cause various problems with the imperium's fluff. I also really doubt the administratum would be willing to give worlds and tech to abhumans and give them back their autonomous status, that they had before the nid invasion. Especially since a few of their strongholds sided with Horus during the heresy.
They are better off staying in 30k. Back then they weren't really part of the Imperium at the time of the great crusade.

But the underlying reason that Squats were Squatted hasn't changed.
Genestealer cults were a niche army that didn't justify the effort to develop into a full force - Deathwatch:Overkill proved there was sufficient demand, they got brought back as a full army

Harlequins were barely a full force at any stage since 2nd edition, but had been growing in popularity and Death Masque was insanely popular. Plus they never really went away, they just got harder to find models for

Death Watch didn't exist before 3rd edition, and have always been a tiny, customisable, elite force. Death Masque and Deathwatch:Overkill proved they're popular enough to warrent a full army, so they got massively expanded

Custodes were never an army before the 30K releases and Burning of Prospero, the only model was a single guy in a pointy helm with a spear

the difference with Squats is: the Squats were never unpopular. Jervis has said precisely this and it has been quoted in this thread previously. Even if the bounty hunter sells astronimical numbers, that's not why they were canned, they were canned because they were a creative dead-end for the design team in the shift from goofy RT to the more grimdark tones of later editions of 40K. If that hasn't changed, there's no reason to bring them back, because the original reason to Squat them still exists

But if they've rejigged them, and changed their focus (not a retcon, but an evolution of their background) to something new that fits with the new ethos of 40K, then there's a valid reason to bring them back. Or sales could just say "This sells lots, make more"

Personally I'd go the grudge-driven nomads route, emerging from the warp hunting their ancient foes. I would have had Baal saved not by the Primaris marines, but by a vengeful fleet of Squats emerging from the Maledictum to annihilate the Tyranids in retaliation for the destruction of the Homeworlds. Too late to do that now, of course, but that would have been a crazy awesome way to reintroduce them.
