I was told that model facing is relevant in KT; an anyone point me to the correct page for this, please? I can’t seem to find it.

Anyone else think the SM options are really lackluster? Is there any particular reason to run them instead of Deathwatch?
I'd like to run Grey Hunters (so Bolter + Chainsword) or Wolfguard (Sternguard would be reasonable to reflect their weapons) but I just have to settle with a very bland set of vanilla options... Kinda regretting I ordered the SM starter box since I probably won't be running them that much...
Thoughts?

Kill team is awesome. I picked up a box of Harlequins yesterday, built them and got a few games. It's a whole lot of fun. There's so much more depth than regular 40k and the your dudes bit feels so much cooler as well.

We played a quick skirmish just now, a single guardsman versus a single Neohphyte something something (SCRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUB FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!) to see how the mechanics work.
Yesyesyes, not a proper game, but it gave us a good grip of how the mechanics worked. Abysmal dice rolls aside, this is promising, can't wait to give it a proper go on a terrain rich board.

I have the usual issue with mounds of grey plastic and unfinished projects, but this really is grabbing me.
I've decided on an Alpha Legion team that made planet-fall on a resource world and are currently subverting the population to believe that they are under the yolk of heretics, and that they are the true followers of the Emperor. What happens when they finally overthrow the PDF is anyone's guess, however a good chunk of those resources and people will vanish before any loyalists show up. Or maybe, the loyalists turn up, to find that there were no lies, that another faction of heresy had taken over the planet, and the Alpha Legion had sniffed it out, overthrew it, and left, leaving the loyalists rather confused over what has just happened.
The cultists will be GSC neophytes, with modifications, as well as some guard representing converted PDF.
The power armoured people will be loyalist (thinking MkIV) in looks, with some modifications. I wanted originally DW, but remove the I iconography, however I'm not that skilled and I'll probably ruin the armour. Instead I'll just deck them up with grenades, knives, etc, maybe the leader will have a DW chestplate.
The main thing is cloaks. I love the recon marine style, although I'm not sure about the sculpting, or the cost. I can't seem to find bitz sellers doing that 'shoulder pad covered by a cloak' style, so I need to learn how to make GS cloaks.
I can't wait. I know KT is a bit restricted (Chaos Marines do not have many options) but it means I can make a thematic army, instead of caring about what is the min/max best units and stuff.

Managed to get a game in last night with marines vs DG, we started simple with not tactics, only specialist traits and also no scouting phase. We did this so that we could concentrate on getting the basic rule correct, phases, who roles what (for 2 turns we rolled injury rolls wrong) etc. Also by the end of the game we were really flying through turns, feels like a nice fast paced game. Thoughts are as follows;
- The movement phase / alternating activation difference from 8th is something i like, certainly forces you to think about the risk vs reward of moving into a better position to shoot- too many times with the initiative did i move into threat range for a plague spewer, or worse a very short charge distance.
- The -1 to hit for over half range is awesome (my GF didnt think so) as paired with a terrain heavy board (not just LOS, lots of scatter is fine also) the stacking of -1 mods really forces you to move and not camp. Which leads to the first point again. People will have to play the obscured rule as its intended; literally any part of the model covered gives you -1 to hit- this is good, as again it forces people to be mobile.
- Even without tactics the specialists feel special- you rely on that relentless trait for your heavy bolter, you rely on the extra CC attack. My intercessor sarge CC specialist took out 2 poxwalkers and 2 plague marines- what a flipping beast, needs a name, needs a backstory, needs extra model details to show his expertise- sure i can do this with normal 40k, but with KT it will actually matter in game.
- The morale stuff is awesome. Guard players be warned; model count will not mean an auto win, and whilst a broken team can still do work- if you're not careful it could mean a very early shower.
Overall it's met and i expect will exceed my expectations- if you can enjoy a game with a lot of the "depth additions" removed then i think its a winner.
The progression, campaign, tactics, additional phases i can only see making the game more fun.

Scouting phase may be something we'll be skipping in regular games ourselves, it's very hit and miss.
The -1 to hit over half range is a bit wonky with some weapons, like the hotshot laspistol having a max range of 6", so good luck there.

Looking at the boards for it, I’m really falling back on my Necromunda Instincts - don’t worry too much about long range weapons.
Definitely going to be fielding three Sicarian Infiltrators with Taser Goad and Flechette Blaster.
They’re fast, relatively tough, and individual models can really kick out a lot of punishment. Certainly they strike me as flexible enough to split fire against light infantry, or focus against heavier foes.
Probably backed up by a Transuranic Gunner and some Vanguard.

For maximum game ruination, pair the Transuranic Arquebus with an Omnispex for ignoring cover alongside the weapon itself ignoring long range shooting.
That's how I inadvertently killed off SW:A at our store last year by doing a turn 1 nuke when I picked off the enemy team leader.

Speaking of killing the team leader, does everyone else think that the leaders will be just focus fired down at the first opportunity? They provide command points, which are important, but are not any more harder to kill than regular guys.

The scouting phase will depend on how you play, if you're a match play kinda guy then yeah maybe the scout phase being hit or miss is a dealbreaker, but for campaign / narrative i think its a fun little addition.
Id disagree about the -1 to hit, It should be harder to hit at over half range in such a fast paced environment, including with a pistol.

I actually managed a reasonable SW proxy list with Deathwatch. Special issue ammo and Infernus Heavy Bolter break the immersion slightly but overall I think this is a better representation of SW than using an Adeptus Astartes list.
Wolf Guard with Power Sword and Combi-plasma (Watch sergeant, Leader)
Wolf Guard with Power Sword and Combi-plasma (Veteran, Zealot)

Personally I quite like the idea that your leader is special because he's the leader, not because he can take more bullets for the Emperor. Protecting your main source of CPs sounds like a good thing in a game, as it promotes player choice, as does allowing it to be a totally valid tactic to go out of your way to kill the opposing team's leader. Not every leader needs to be out there with a roaring chainsword to be useful, and if they are, be prepared for it

Yeah, one of the lessons I learned real early on with my games with the deathwatch was 5 points for a Storm Shield on your leader is ALWAYS worth it. the fancy shmancy plasma guns and skitarii sniper weapons and whatnot always go after him.
My campaign leader is probably going to be a Black Templar with a power maul and storm shield. I shall call him: Brother-Captain Crunch!

Only played a few games so far, but each one has been close and come down to the last dice roll which was just great.
It's not new news but you want to have lots of terrain on the board for a better game.

I see that as the balancing factor for the very small table size (2ft x 2ft?). Even the lowly lasgun can double shot most of the table on turn 1 with some aggressive forward deployment and movement let alone upgraded weapons with special rules or increased range.

GSCs, technically. The mining laser is a las cannon with less range (which won't exactly amount to match in this game. Apart from that, the eldars have bright/dark lances, which are their version of a lascannon (still though, not really the same).

As its kinda related, anyone know the best bag for your buck for the new terrain? Starter gives a good amount, but after you buy it one another is pretty meh since im not using either force to begin with. It being all modular, wondering what one gives the most to can build for the price

My LGS didn't have anymore KT rulebook, so a quick question.
Is it an Infinite amount of models on the roster, with max 20 and 100 pts per game, or is it max 20 on roster, max 20 per game?
Not sure if I should build and paint more than 20 (for options)
