This is a great statement to make too.
There is a plan within GW that very few people are privy to knowing about. Is it a 2-5 year plan? Who knows, but that plan slowly unfolds over the coming years. People really, really need to learn patience. We've seen a lot for both of GW's major IPs over the last two years, imagine what is coming within the next 3?

Just my two cents, but I agree with him. I do not believe this is a "gate way" into 40K. I believe this was a fedora tip to narrative players who have been craving a way to carve out rpg stories with their favorite army men.

It seems to work for both. Alot of FB community posts I see are from Parent gamers showing their Kids the game, and introducing them to the hobby, and everyone seems super excited about it, with alot of them saying they've never even played 40k before.

Seems quite a few of the staff play inq28 as well. It’s probably not a coincidence that the first expansion is something as esoteric as rogue trader.

Very possibly. And it’s those oddball forces, like Genestealer Cults that I’m most interested in.
For me, Kill Team should be massively restrictive on Power Armour Equivalents. Let it really show off those factions which can’t really do 40k scale battles. Your inquisition bodyguards. Your Rogue Traders, AM inducted Gangs defending their turf with knowledge and know-wots. Orky Freebooterz. Those weirdo forces that might be part Of a wider army, but not in fact the core of that army.
Mind you, Astartes do naturally excel in such things, so for them fair enough. Chaos Marines? Far rather a single power armoured overseer, the rest largely disposable goons
Fed up of Scalpers? But still want your Exclusives? Why not join us?
Can anyone tell me which one of these Adeptus Mechanicus books is current? The Adeptus Mechanicus, or the Skitarrii codex?
It looks like I have a ready army up, and I want to get the book to get it playable.

I'm going to be putting my Killteam together, but I wanted to get the book, as I ended up indirectly with a couple of squads of Skitarii, a couple of big guys, and the leader. Add in a few specialists, and I'm all set to get my metal on.
I ended up getting in on that first scenery set, and I can't recommend that deal enough... There is so much in that little box that you could probably kill someone by hitting them with it. And the price... Yeah, that is the one you want if you haven't got a serious budget for scenery... If not, wait and pick up the second hand ones that will ineveitably show up in the near future.

That is what some existing players want it to be but what we have doesn't really match, does it?
Those players don't need a battlefield in a box, they don't need everything in coloured plastic, they don't need the options stripped down so that almost everything is in the squad box.
What we have is something that lets completely new players get started as easily as possible.

As a "new" (I haven't played a game of 40K for almost a decade at this point) player I thought I'd chime in. I wouldn't be playing KT, nor would the four other guys, --two who have never touched a GW mini in their lives--, who are jumping in with me, if the starter set wasn't such an incredible entry point. Before KT only half of us had seriously outdated 40K armies and no one had enough terrain to even play a game of KT. At least for our group KT is empiricially working to bring old 40K players back, and new players in.
Casual wargamer, casual painter, casual grad student. I can do formal though, I do own a tuxedo T-shirt.
Also this discussion is not very newsy news, but I do not really want to advocate to close it down because we know there are things to come, hopefully glorious and numerous and well balanced... okay I stop.

I know one local group that is so tournament minded that it's a safe bet they will immediately put that restriction into their friendly games as soon as they hear about it.
Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

The 2" terrain limitation, while odd, may be a NOVA only thing seeing as each table appears to have the same sets of terrain combinations set out.
Secondary objectives are a fun addition and the removal of the scout phase is probably done to keep the run time down to that lean 75 minutes per match. A four turn max is a bit short though.
I do quite like that there is a hard cap on team building to prevent slow play.

No, they specifically mention reivers and suchlike with high terrain rules would not be able to use them as a consequence so they clearly meant it even if it does seem bizarre.

I'm wondering if the roster datacards are the ones that will be "required". It kinda makes sense, since you're supposed to write out your list and have the roster cards as quick references. The Tactics Cards are called Tactics Cards.
